You don't need to be concerned at all about replacing the current redirect Architecture of Turkey with your article, it is the right title, and if anybody would disagree that could be discussed later. A couple of days ago, I put up a preliminary version of a top-down article on Danish sculpture which has not received much attention up to now. I must say that the level of interest has been pretty low for a country boasting one of the world's leading artists in the field: Bertel Thorvaldsen. Do you think it would help to submit it for DYK? That might trigger a few useful reactions as I continue to work on more recent developments. It could run: "...that while Bertel Thorvaldsen later became a leading international figure, Danish sculpture was in fact introduced by a Frenchman, Jacques Saly, in 1752." Indeed WikiProject Sculpture seems to be inactive, although one editor joined last week. Nice work, and am happy to nominate. I am only unsure about the last part of the hook which is slightly different from the article ("as a nationally recognized art form"), and can't find the referencing confirming the "introduced"/"traced back" which will be required at DYK. Good question. Most of the sculpture before Saly was created by foreigners and often imported. Even Saly himself was brought to Denmark on assignment. One of the main reasons he is notable is that he became the first influential director of the Royal Danish Academy of Art a few months after it was founded and began training Danes in the art of sculpture. By all means change the hook. I've included a further reference at the end of the lead (the book I have been using as a basis for the article) but it is not on-line. I can try to find further references if you need them but unfortunately there is no general overview online. There is a series of articles beginning with this (see in particular Antikkens København – den nyantikke indretning) but no mention of Saly although he is mentioned here. So I'll leave it to you. I was a bit surprised to see that Emily Williams (architect) is up for rapid deletion. Seems to me she made an important contribution to women's architecture in California but I would like your opinion on this. Seems that is now resolved. With that reference anyway I don't think should have been speedy but rather a regular DR. I would add to the lead that she mostly designed houses, one of which is currently heritage listed. It looks like a very modest building from the outside though. Probably notability is related to local history here. Some better photos of Williams' work can be seen here. Like other women architects of her day, Williams seems to have contributed mainly by designing interiors so as to reduce the amount of housework required. I should make this clearer in the article. Most of the other 40 or so articles I have written about female architects are indeed about non-Americans. Shortly I hope to write a top-down article on Women in architecture along the lines of Women in medicine. This should present a better general perspective of their history and current prospects. Glad to see that Esther Hill was at the top of one of the DYK sections today. Another very enterprising young woman I have just come across is Anna Heringer who perhaps also deserves a DYK. It could go: "...that the young German architect Anna Heringer has contributed significantly to sustainable architecture, building hand-made schools (pictured) in Bangladesh and Morocco with local craftsmen and materials?" recently you gave me an edit warning over the article on wind_power, which I feel is biased. Since I edited this article, someone else has wrote in the talk page that they do agree with me. I don't know who they are, as their user name was removed when user Aflafla1 decided to strike out their comments, as he/she says the article is OK. So not only does my attempt to put the POV tag fail, but if someone agrees with me, their comments give stuck out! Would you not accept that the neutrality of the article is disputed?
This article currently has a B-rating. What would be the proceedure to try to get that changed? Would the people making the decisions on that be the current editors - if so, it would be a fruitless exercise to try, as it's clear there are a lot of pro-wind people editing that page, who would challenge strongly any attempt to get the quality rating changed. Hello Drkirkby. I think you are misunderstanding something, as it was Aflafla1 who stroke out his/her own previous comment, so there was no attempt to suppress anyone or anything. The article quality rating can be changed by any editor following the assessment criteria. Probably in this case would be safe to discuss it first. These issues are best discussed at Talk:Wind power. If you think the spectrum of views expressed there is limited, you can invite other editors from relevant WikiProjects to provide further input. In any case, I see now you have the help of Ipigott a very experienced editor, so IMO there are good prospects for seeing the article improved. Sorry to bother you about wind again, Elekhh, but the latest news from the UK confirms some of my earlier concerns. There has indeed been strong opposition to onshore wind with complaints from over 100 MPs. It really looks to me as if the wind power article should reflect these concerns but I realize that additions along these lines are repeatedly removed on a series of questionable explanations. Maybe you could look at my recent additions to the talk page. Well I don't really expect a philosophical 7 pages essay (not that I wouldn't appreciate it, though) but here goes: In Denmark, photographs of sculptures in the public realm that are still protected by copyrights are only allowed if they qualify as freedom of panorama. It is of course very relevant that some peiple makes an effort to keep commons free of copyright infringements but I have even experienced that someone challanged an image based on the fast that the sculptire stood on a plinth created by an architect who hadn't been dead for 70 years while the artist had. As I see it, a plinth is not a work of art but a piece of architecture/design. It is is not (just) there to look good but serves a purpose. Just as the case is for buildings, walls, benches, bowls and all sorts of other stuff. Sure they can be very ornate, by all means, also part of the decorative appeal of the combined works, but that goes for all the above as well - many modern design objects are certainly more there for their looks than their practical use - but that still doesn't make them works of art protected as such. A plinth is there to put stuff on them, just like some fancy fruit bowl is there to put fruit in it even if the fruit would be better of somewhere else. Furthermore, in cases where these plinths are in fact destinctive-looking and the author is seperately credited, my next argument would be that they are notable in there own right and thus a legitimate subject for phptpgraphic documentation – which in turn makes the associated work of art legitimate under freedom of panorama. I would of course not use this reasoning in cases where the sculpture stands on a plain granite block but when it comes to early 20th century sculptury in the public realm in Denmark, it is rather the rule than the exception that they are placed on plinths designed by seperately credited and often leading architects. In support of my view, the architect is in such cases systematically credited in various databases of public art (as creator of the plinth) and literature such as the Danish biographical Weilbach encyclopedia which covers both architects and artists and list them under works. They are also included in the relevant architects' biographies on Danish wikiepdia. To me that is a clear indication of notability.
I therefore wonder if Wikipedia has a stand on this or could/should get one? It would make it a lot easier than to take the discussion again and again with specific images. And it would avoid wasting other people's time if the conclusion is that the reasoning is not valid. Hi Ramblersen, the problem is that Commons does not operate in Wikipedia's educational interest, neither does it follow opinion or consensus formed here. So regardless of what we think to be reasonable it is the committed wikilawyers' interpretations on Commons which determines whether a file is kept or not. The process is random and decisions are inconsistent. The status quo is to consider paranoia as "reasonable", and thus delete everything which any user has "doubts" about, without any requirement to follow a common sense investigation on the matter. For these reasons and because of lack of collaboration in addressing these issues, I mostly have withdrawn from participation there.
Regarding the specific case you describe, I think the general consensus among Commons-wikilawyers is that any building or part of it designed by an architect is protected by copyright. I've seen images of standard steps or pavement deleted!. In the same time images of Corbu's famous Villa La Roche have been kept as "lacking originality" :). So the way forward in such cases could be (1) defend the image on basis of de minimis or "lack of originality" ; (2) if deleted, upload your image on en.Wiki with the whole set of disclaimers like at File:VillaSavoye.jpg (this applies to architecture only, can't do it with sculptures). Other Wikis like the German Wiki allow uploading your images regardless of FOP in foreign countries (example). (3) Lobby for a new media repository "Commons Educational" which would allow images with non-commercial restriction, so that Wikipedias can illustrate 20th century art and architecture. --ELEKHHT21:34, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your answer and yes I guess I should have asked you on the wikipedia commons talk page but I just tend to forget about the difference, probably in denial here since all the red links from deleted files dreate such a bad atmosphere on mine.:) There is no problem when it comes to buildings in Denmark since the law explicitly exclude them from copyright protection so my thoughts regarded the sculptures. What I wondered was if seeing the plinth as a notable, architectural work could be used as, well an excuse, for uploading images of protected sculptures in some cases. But based on your answer - which very well fits my own experiences there - I guess it would be pretty optimistic to that such an argumentation would go through. Rather than repeat all the background, I suggest you look at User talk:Sionk, User talk:Ipigott and Talk:List of Danish architects. Key questions appear to be whether red links should be maintained in such lists without references, whether it is advisable to strive to cover all 650 Danish architects from the Danish wiki with stubs in English (and possibly repeating the approach for other countries/languages), or whether it would be more productive to concentrate efforts in the first instance on developing biographies of the more prominent or notable individuals in the light of coverage in the Danish wikipedia and other sources. --Ipigott (talk) 16:26, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, good to see you working on big topics! I did a quick copy-edit, so the prose should be fine now. Some of the remaining issues:
the sentence "Indonesia has been listed as one of 100 best surfing locations in the world" is not very convincing, as there are less than 200 countries in the world, some of which are landlocked. What is probably meant is that 'Some of the top 100 surfing locations are in Indonesia', but that again does not sound very remarkable and on what criteria is that toplist based? I would either give an example of the most popular surfing beach(es) or remove this part.
"the most notable beaches of Aceh are located to the northern tip" - most notable for what, tourism?
"some of the northern beaches contain concrete sea bunkers" needs inline citation
"The water of Jakarta Bay is relatively polluted..." needs citation.
Sources which are problematic either for WP:RS or WP:NPOV are : Tripadvisor, Unikom blog, Tourism central. Also travel guides are not fully reliable, particularly when promoting destinations as top x, or so. These have to be judged on a case by case basis. A range of opinions are here.
This is not a DYK issue but I wonder if the best way to organize the list is by provinces. From administrative perspective this is logical, but in terms of geography, culture and tourism not necessarily. I wonder if you came across any publications which would use different criteria. I would imagine that many readers wouldn't be familiar with the Indonesian provinces, and that geographically and culturally the islands might be an easier structuring criteria.
An area of ambiguity is whether this is meant to be a list, or an article. Much of the prose is explanatory and goes beyond what is usually in a list (see List of beaches in Hawaii for example) whereas this looks more like an article (ex. Beaches in Chicago). If you decide you want it to be an article, than it also should be renamed, and the beaches enumerated in a sentence rather than bullet-points.

No, only structures which are notable as architecture are in the scope of WikiProject Architecture. Canals, dams, dikes, etc. are usually designed by engineers, so might fall within the scope of WP:WikiProject Civil engineering. Cultural buildings like the Brunei Museum usually are notable for their architecture. Judging by this not very good picture Brunei Museum would be in scope although of local importance only. There is a list of related wikiprojects you can have a look at before tagging articles when unsure. Ana is the Portuguese spelling. Anna is the English spelling. Presumably, her name was spelled Ana because she was Brazilian. I am an American living in Brazil; my wife is Brazilian, and my sister-in-law's name is spelled Ana. I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

Hi Elekhh, thanks for commenting at the nomination page. Is your only concern is that the portal doesn't have any featured pictures? As far as I know, there is none exist at this moment related to the subject. Even the parent portal P:FILM has a very few such pictures, others are just of same quality.
