Thanks for the note. I think shopping in Delhi is one thing which definitely deserves its own sub-section atleast. It forms an integral part of Delhi's culture. An article on Delhi is incomplete without describing shopping areas like Chandni Chowk, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojni Nagar, Greater Kailash, Connaught Place and Dilli Haat. India is perhaps the most diverse country in the world and having one code for all Indian cities is not justified. Sports too is a part of the city's culture and giving it a seperate section is perhaps a bit too much. Regarding subsections, I don't know why it should not be there. Is there any logical explanation or is it just a thumbrule followed by the concerned Wikiproject? There are several featured articles on other non-Indian cities which have subsections. I used the article on Canberra as a model for this article. Again, it is completely unjustified to have the same standards for all Indian cities. --Incman|वार्ता 04:27, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A very important point has striked my mind. The article is on the National Capital Territory of Delhi which is a special union territory and not a city as such. So the article should not necessarily abide by the rules of WikiProject Indian cities. --Incman|वार्ता 05:14, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

However, I still prefer the present layout. I was going through the culture section in Kolkatta article and realized that it too had separate paras on cuisine, festivals etc. Subsections help organize the artcile making it easier to read. The culture section in the Kolkatta article is too long and if it was divided into subsections, it would have been easier for a common reader to go through the article and find the topic of interest. For example, if I want to know about Kolkatta's cuisine, I don't have to go through each and every para in the culture section to find info on cuisine. Also, it is highly probable, that since I don't find cuisine in the contents list, I won't read the article and instead find info on cuisine on several other articles on the internet on Kolkatta. Indian freedom fighters

Yes I noted what happened yesterday, and while Category:Indian activists is a poor choice, I think there had to be a renaming, becoz many of those included in the cat were not freedom fighters. I am quite saddened by the state of Portal:India as nobody seems to care about it. Thanks for your support on the deletion of this article! I don't wish for any of the information within to be lost however, I realized the enormous amount of work it will take to integrate it all into relevent places in other articles. TS Peer Review

Hi, there ... thanks for the note on my talk page. I'm confused, though. Someone else nominated TS for peer review, and I didn't/don't feel it was/is ready just yet -- there is still more I want to do with it, and I am waiting for other editors to be available, and I'd like to see it receive a medical peer review by Wiki physicians. On the lead (and other pending issues), I am waiting for some editors who are on "Wikibreak" to be available to help, as it seemed to me (perhaps wrongly?) that leads on some of the featured medical articles are a bit different than on other kinds of articles. Also, the timing of the peer review caught me by surprise as I'm stretched really thin until I complete some travel in mid-June. I'm not really sure what is meant by me "wrapping up the review now" ... I'm not sure how I would do that, or if it is I that should do that (since I didn't nominate it for peer review)? Dwaipayan, I dont understand why you are ready to accept their silly statements that India was not there historically , was a british creation etc etc. 1.If India was not there historically, then to which place were the european countries in the 14th and 15th century , trying to find the sea route  ?? 2. Why did columbus name the natives of America as "indians"??? 3. As coming to our national identities, we see it as a land where our dharmic traditions rule.(for eg. Sankaracharya establishing his four 'math's at four corners of our nation etc).

If your point is in portraying the incredible diversity, then i think seperate articles for kerala culture , tamizh culture and andhra culture should be there instead of this whole South Indian Culture.My opinion is that it would be better if it is kept as a part of the article indian culture .

Yeah, I went through the Mandal Commission. Nicely done! But, in my opinion, the point-wise arguments in reservation is better for the reservation article. ISRO

Hi, Dwaipayanc, recently someone has edited the ISRO article on the Indian space programme - alegedly to reformat it - but as of right now, half of the article seems to be missing, and I am not sure why this would be neccecary to edit it - the only addition this person has made is not perticularily relevent to an article which was pretty good before. Ive notaced that you have reverted other articles automatically, which I dont know how to do, so I was wondering if you could revert the ISRO article to the last unvandalised edit, if it is still in this state when you recieve this message - 06:46, 30 May 2006 Ejvyas (→History) - seems to be the edit that changed the article. Re:Plans

Hi Dwaipayan - thanks for your compliments - it is indeed a long-awaited, moment of happiness right now! I've already nominated IIT and Patel for WP:TFA. Right now Sukh and myself are working to make Sikhism an FA. I was a bit disappointed that Pournami and co. dropped K. R. Narayanan's FA drive (for whatever reasons). I know about South India and Delhi - there are many in a good position. Plus, it is Shreshth's dream that his hard work on Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties of India results in FA status. Your help is especially needed on the latter as Shreshth himself is pressed for time - Ambuj and I are trying to solve some of the outstanding issues.

I just discovered the happy convenience of picking up a book or two from my local library and writing an FA on the subject. Its an absolutely magnificent way of learning a wide array of subjects very well. Even though June will be extremely, extremely important and busy for my priority work and main pursuits, I hope that I will churn out at least 1 FA a week from now on - which is a better rate than ever! Iqbal's views did not change, but evolved in a straight line. I don't claim to know why he wrote "Tarana-e-Hind," but he was very young then and the poem is not suggestive. Iqbal's views developed in a strictly religious line in the years after the poem was written, and he came to hold the view that "Muslim civilization," as opposed to a nation of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, various ethnic communities, was the only tenable (and worthwhile) political entity. Iqbal was not only a proponent of the political independent of Muslims of India, but also of the political revival and general unity of all Muslim nations, as a common Ummah.
Sadly, as V. S. Naipaul suggests, Iqbal was thus implying a rejection of Hindu society and Hinduism - asserting that Muslims just could not live in an un-Islamic society with un-Islamic people. Iqbal believed deeply in Islam, not just the scripture but in the metaphysics and philosophy, which would create a "spiritually awakened" society - again, he implies that spiritual awakening is impossible for non-Muslims. This combines the proselytyzing zeal of Islam with the legal concepts of Shariat which are supposed to govern society. Almost all poems Iqbal wrote are entirely suggestive of these ideas.
Perhaps you might be interested in a very superb book - "Beyond Belief: Islamic Excursions Among the Converted Peoples" by V. S. Naipaul. It is tremendous and superb in its exploration of Muslim pysche in Asia. Rama's Arrow 13:37, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And Iqbal wasn't the first in this line of thought (he was only the first to propose partition) - the ideal society was envisaged by Muslim intellectuals as being completely founded on Islam, and thus excluding or eliminating of non-Islamic cultures, philosophy and religion. Mind you, even though this explanation may portray Iqbal as a bigot, I regard him as one of the most brilliant minds of his era. His whole life was the pursuit of salvation. It was purely amazing to come to understand how Iqbal's works covered a wide array of subjects, beautiful literary and poetic compositions and wonderful styles of writing, unveiling a complex, deep and rich thinking that covered religion, philosophy, politics, individuals and society all at once! Hinduism is the endeavour to discover God - throughout its history, it has been characterized by different attempts to discover and expain God - such as animism and worship of natural phenomena, God-kings, atheism (the Shramanas), asceticism, etc. Unlike other religions, it cannot be defined by the people who are its adherents, but by this core endorsement of human endeavours to discover God. Thus, it flows in confluence with the wonderful philosophy of Jesus (who I personally revere) and the faith of Muslims, who are unparalleled in their devotion. It covers all the sciences, maths, arts, everything. Thus, I don't feel offended by Iqbal's thinking even though I know that when put into practice, it will have to be oppposed. Just yesterday I commented to Sukh on how Guru Nanak's philosophy is strikingly and eerily akin to the message of the Bhagavad Gita.
