I can see that you are spending very little time in Wikipedia. I am not the person to take charge of a portal, simply because I am not yet tuned to high quality articles for FA and so on. I am still tuned to high volume. Changing articles and photographs from time to time is not a big job, but the stocks are extremely limited. Biographies – may be, I will be able to do something but not with selected articles. And photos are just not there. I can get on with the portal to some extent but then without your putting in efforts, it would just become stationary. Please have a look at Legendary personalities in Bengal. I have not entered it for DYK because I have put in a similar one – Gobindram Mitter. Regards. -- P.K.Niyogi15:55, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. I also had some reservation about the title but could not come up with a better one. There is scope for expansion of the article with more examples but the danger lies in people inserting insignifacnt material. I had read somewhere a rhyme about Haji Mohd. Mohsin, but I cannot locate it at present. I have been working in improving and standardising the entries about towns in West Bengal. When you have the time, you can just have a look - Bandel, Antpur... It is nothing great, just making the pages respectable. At one point of time, you spent a lot of time in starting some of the pages. -- P.K.Niyogi23:25, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
a bot recently changed the spelling of satyajit in bangla by replacing "khanda to" by "to". DO u know if this is according to some legit wikipedia guideline?--ppm23:57, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have this in peer review now. The auto peer review adviced I add a "box" appropriate for the topic. Do you know of any. The "Previous country box" used for Empires/Kingdoms is not accepted.ThanksDineshkannambadi16:42, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My RFA
Thank You, Dwaipayanc/Archive 16 for your Support!
Thank you for your support in my RfA, which closed at 111 / 1 / 2. I am humbled and rather shocked to see such kind comments and for it to reach WP:100. Please feel free to leave a note if I have made a mistake or if you need anything, I will start out slow and tackle the harder work once I get accustomed to the tools. Thank you once more, I simply cannot express in words my gratitude.
Hi Dwaipayan! I hang around a lot of India-related articles, so I've definitely seen you around, doing all sorts of good work :) Thanks for dropping in, and for the message, much appreciated! Hope to see you around even more in the future. Cheers, riana_dzasta14:07, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Born in Aus, but I moved to India when I was 8, and lived there for 5 years (Calcutta). I come across WB-related articles on NPP sometimes, but I rarely contribute (more of a mopper than a writer, sadly!) But Portal:West Bengal looks interesting - I rather like portals, so I might see if I can push this one through to featured status! Doesn't look like it needs much more, really... riana_dzasta14:34, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Automatic update, do you mean like this? This is the portal I helped get to featured status; if you click 'show new selections' it, well, shows new selections :) It's wonderful that the news is updated so regularly, kudos to you and P Niyogi. I think it needs very little work. If you wish I can set up the automatic randomisation, but more pictures are definitely needed - portals should be pretty visual, IMO. I'll have a look around for pics; let me know how you feel about the automatic randomisation! riana_dzasta14:46, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Dwaipayan, I started work on sorting the articles into subpages to get the randomisation up, but it's very late (or early) where I am, so I should turn in. Just a few quick things to note before I go to bed, though, to avoid duplication of content on the main portal page...
FAs shouldn't be used as selected biographies; for example, Rabindranath Tagore should only be used as a selected article.
Any pictures which are being used in the selected article/biography shouldn't be used as selected pictures - so I'm inclined not to support Image:Darjeeling.jpg as a selected pic. Also, since it's a panorama, it looks messy when it is used as a selected pic, as it leaves too much space next to it.
That's all I can think of now! I don't know what the statistics would be like for two images/articles showing up together due to the randomisation, but you can bet it will happen somewhere (these things always do!), so those are 2 suggestions I can offer. Does that sound OK?
I'll probably see your reply in the morning/afternoon, so sorry if it seems like I'm being lazy about replying :) Take care, and thanks for letting me work on this! riana_dzasta15:48, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, Dwaipayan, I can't think of anything else right now. Just the lack of images, but we'll try our best (even 10 or so will do for now). I'll keep going with sorting stuff out. Take care! riana_dzasta08:31, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your message. Otherwise, I would have been taken by surprise. I still don’t have a hang of these featured portals and articles but I suppose they are good status symbols. It is good if some one is helping to improve the West Bengal portal. For sometime now I have been busy mostly on the town pages. You may not have noticed that all transfers from Ganeshbot sandbox was completed for West Bengal about a month back. Thereafter, I transferred a lot of material for Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa and Assam. In fact, transfers for Jharkhand is also complete. I find that Ganeshk has gone by the census data but that leaves out many important towns, including subdivisional HQs, assembly constituency centres and new development centres. Therefore, I have been adding these – not just a line or two, but at least some information. It is listed in Wikipedia:Notice board for India-related topics/It's new. That work is continuing. I will keep watch on the portal changes. Sorry for the long message. With regards. -- P.K.Niyogi02:54, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I might need you to {{db-author}} some subpages that we don't need now, because I'm getting confused with all of them! :) I'll make you a list of the ones we don't need... riana_dzasta14:29, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, no, I like portals :) There are definitely a lot of Indian portals which need very little work to get up to featured status, so it would be fun to work on them. riana_dzasta06:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you don't mind, I'd like to add more selected pictures without going through the SPC process and pass the current SPC's since the portal needs at least 20 SP's. Cheers! S.D.¿п? § 13:23, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[Reset] Hi! Howrah Bridge, though a smaller article, could be a good candidate for selected article, as it can be provided with references and inline citations (hopefully). On the other hand, both Durga Puja and Bengali cuisine lack good references, and are absolutely deficient in inline citations, though both articles sounds comprehensive. Howrah Bridge may have some problems regarding comprehensiveness. Let's put those as candidates.
Regarding direct promotion to selected pictures, I don't have any problems. But will it be ok once the portal is up for featured candidacy? I dont have much idea, but someone may tell that images were not selected by nomination procedure. Already we have the whole biography section which has not been chosen by nomination procedure.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:19, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you would like to do it, please nominate several articles for the portal's selected articles. Regarding the selected pictures, I think we could put the selected pictures on the candidates page using the layout Riana created (and without created a separate subpage). If no one object by, say, Friday, we'll put them into the portal. Also, regarding selected biographies, I don't think s nomination process is necessary until the portal becomes featured. Does that sound good to you? :D Cheers Dwaipayan. S.D.¿п? § 23:49, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I personally would prefer if we renamed the entire 'selected articles' section to 'featured articles', as that appears to be standard portal procedure. That might take some time, though... I think only featured articles should be used on the front page. riana_dzasta23:53, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to be so slow in responding; I've been very busy, and am trying to avoid engaging too many FACs, as I've got a lot of pending travel on the horizon. I'll have a look now; I already saw there is mention of image issues. Can you please ping Jkelly (talk·contribs) and ask him to have a look? There's some big new deal from the Wiki Foundation about Fair Use on images that I really don't understand, so I'll hesitate to support any article until its images are cleared by someone who understands the Fair Use issues. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:34, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Websources in references section needs last access dates, {{Seealso}} belongs at the top of each section per WP:GTL, and that See also template at the bottom of the article is a killer—is there a way to shorten it or make it more visually pleasing? I will read the article on Wednesday, when I have more free time. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:57, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's a great job done and the portal now looks modern and sleek. You start off the nomination and then we will follow. I think we will have to awaken up many people. Regards-- P.K.Niyogi13:39, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've stumbled across it before, but never taken part. Your last question is going to keep me up all night, now... I thought it was AJC Bose too, but apparently not. Hmmm... riana_dzasta17:52, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have informed a number of people to have a look. I hope they do. There is a suggestion about the biographies and I feel that we can fix a limit to the summary size, so that it comes within a fixed space. We can take the size of say Megnad Saha summary and fix the others accordingly. I can try and they you can see the result. There are not many biographies as of now. It won't be a great job. Regards-- P.K.Niyogi04:58, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Been busy with this and that. The West Bengal portal is looking real neat now. Good luck at WP:FPCAN. I hope to get the Kerala portal there, but we're lacking in content to put on the portal. There are just 9 selected articles and 5 or so selected pics. :-( --thunderboltz(Deepu)07:49, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
