old dnb

I don't think it is useful copying material from the old dnb without indicated the exact part of the material that is taken from it--in the case of what you are doing, that's probably all the article, but it has to be mentioned, probably best by the ordinary device of quotation marks, so that when people add additional material the sourcing will be clear.

Actually, I don;t think it is useful at all to simply add such material, without yourself looking for modern sources--such as the current dnb, which is very widely available in libraries, or other sources on the subject. interpretations can change, and the material that would be said a century ago in summarizing the careers of 19th and 18th century notables is probably not a good representation of the current approach to the subject.

I know this has been discussed in the past, and I know that what you are doing has been discouraged, so it disappoints me that you are still doing it. I think it;'s time to carry this discussion further, and intend to propose two suggestions: 1. That not indicating the exact part copied is bad practice amounting to plagiarism and cause for deletion. 2. That all such material be tagged by a much more explicit warning at the head of the article and possibly, that adding multiple articles in the fashion is not to the interests of WP. well, the parts copied, i have footnoted at the end of each paragraph. where it is existing not copied, i have not. when it is copied i have used "DNB", where rewritten i have used "cite DNB"; to the extent that this is a new article, i don't see the problem. however, i will refrain from creating new articles verbatum from DNB.
a related problem is an existing article, copy pasted from ODNB, which is in reality an old DNB text except for a sentence or two. there are a couple thousand existing articles like this.

I found on Harry Smith entry the CBE appointment was linked to Commander of the British Empire. This should be linked to either Commander of the Order of the British Empire or using the full name Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (and both links are case sensitive). I kinda agree, but this is beyond the inclusionist or deletionist divide: it goes to admin competence. the only solution to problems is management by drama, management by crisis, management by turning blue. the pointed challenge stands: we have admins who have all kinds of time to tag spam articles, hound people's talk pages, prod for deletion, but not one second to actually reference an article. leadership is not telling people what to do, leadership is building teams to get things done.
there is a fundamental lack of lessons learned: they forget nothing and they learn nothing. the BLP mass deleter referenced no articles, and got a pass. all the BLP hysteria accomplished little, but they think it's the way forward. count me out: delete 200,000 articles; see if I care; I have my own agenda of Wikimedia improvement.
