ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:11, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Sleepwalk

In the Wiki article on the film "Sleepwalkers" there is mention that the song "Sleep Walk" is used.

Should you feel the need to be consistent might you not also go into that article and remove that reference because there is no mention of 'significance'.

Significance is itself subjective, unless you can point out the empirical measure you're using.

I have no idea why you'd remove the reference. It is factual, and informative.

Have you reviewed WP:IPCV, which I mentioned at your Talk page? You may also want to look over WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, but I suspect I'll get there eventually now that you've brought it to my attention. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 01:08, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Help With Award Update for CueCat

Saw your comment and I am very new to this. All that happend is I found a reference to another award which clearly is something that Digital Convergence and CueCat won, thus how can one award be there and the other not. Here is the link I am trying to update: https://www.siia.net/codie/Our-History/Past-Winners/2001-Winners How would their very own historic archive (as is wiki a historic archive) a marketing link? The very same CODIE AWARDS site here on wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_and_Information_Industry_Association#CODiE_Awards utilizes the very same site and references many times over. Thus how is it okay at the award site and not at the award winners Wiki reference. Please help, do not really understand and want to learn this process and even asked for help and posted talks. Help? SoftwareNerdTech (talk) 18:30, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

If you haven't already done so, I really think you need to ask the question at the article's Talk page, and definitely don't reinsert the information until you have a consensus to do so there. I'm sorry, I don't have more time to address this right now. Best wishes! DonIago (talk) 19:55, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

Hello Doniago and thank you. I have used the talk page and shown there are over 500 individual references to the award within Wikipages. All notable and respected individuals and companies. Posted them in the Cuecat talk pages and it just gets ignored and I received a warning (1) to not reverse changes. Keep waiting by there seems to be a person sitting on the article. Discovered the award was there for few years and this same fellow removed it. Seems really odd. Could you assist a newbie at this, please? SoftwareNerdTech (talk) 00:24, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

As I noted at the talk page, the way you posted those references was malformed and extremely difficult to read; it also seemed a bit pointy. But even if it had been a proper list, it wouldn't mean anything, because WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS; just because other articles reference the award doesn't mean they should. You absolutely shouldn't reverse the changes until you have a WP:CONSENSUS to do so at this point. If you feel the involvement of other editors would help in this regard, I would recommend contacting the projects listed at the top of the Talk page and leaving a neutrally-worded statement asking for others to take a look at it. Alternately, you may want to consider dispute resolution, but I really don't think we're at that point. Hope this is all clear, but if you have questions I'll try to answer to the best of my ability. DonIago (talk) 01:52, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

Don't Fear the Reaper

Hi Doniago. I'm a bit confused on why Spotify isn't considered a reliable source. It's a reputable company with the track listed. I didn't want to put the Wikipedia page as source. Short of the twitter announcement for the track list, I don't know what else would qualify. NSP being a comedy band, doesn't get the same coverage as other bands so it's hard to find news articles with the information. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PEIJay (talkcontribs) 03:25, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

If there's a Wikipedia page for this cover of the song, then linking the cover would be acceptable to establish that it was notable (i.e. it must have satisfied notability requirements to have its own article, presumably). if there isn't an article for this cover of the song, then I don't believe Spotify would be acceptable because it would establish the existence but not the significance of this cover of the song. In that case, I'd recommend a different source that discusses the cover of the song in some level of detail. Hope this helps! Feel free to raise the question at the article's Talk page as well. DonIago (talk) 14:16, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Jean Shepherd edit adding linking A Christmas Story House Wikipedia article

Sentence added to Jean Shepherd article noting Cleveland house where A Christmas Story was filmed linked to Wikipedia article about the house, which notes the film was made there. The house's article includes multiple citations about the film and the house's history. Surely a Wikipedia article with multiple citations is itself adequate citation for mentioning facts in and linking from other articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Usualtalk (talkcontribs) 22:19, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

Per WP:CIRCULAR, articles shouldn't be effectively or implicitly sourced to other articles. I'd recommend copying a citation from the article about the house that substantiates the information you were trying to add. Also, I suspect the term "epic" isn't really applicable here. Cheers. You can probably edit Animalympics now

Doniago, you can probably help to clean up the links now, as Espngeek hasn't made an effort to reply to me yet, and continues to make contributions with bare links elsewhere. Since I've talked to them, I'm not sure what else can be done as I don't know if someone can be reported for improper use of referencing, and also adding sources that don't match the article's content, as I've seen him do this too. -NowIsntItTime(chats)(doings) 22:03, 15 December 2019 (UTC) (copied from my talk page)

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well D. MarnetteD|Talk 23:05, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
