Amitasagara

Well, I'm currently studying the Yapparungalakkarikai, and in the process I happened to notice that the reference was in the commentary rather than in the text itself. It's borne out by the Madras Tamil Lexicon's entry for "kunakankiyam". If you look at the online version (romanised), the reference it gives is "karikai, payiravurai"(i.e. karikai, commentary on the payiram section). Seven wonders of India

Dear Dinesh Kannambadi,

We have corresponded through these pages in the past. I find that Amar has not been editing the Karnataka pages. Who is looking after the pages for value editing?

I have created an article on Seven Wonders of India which includes two of our Karnataka heritage sites. May I request you to edit/ wikify the article and also introduce the photos of all the seven wonders from the interlinked wikipages. I have tried to do it since morning (sitting in San diego I have all the time in the world to browse wiki pages)but have not been able to do it. Literature in the Hoysala Empire

Recent changes to articles and abuse by Special:Contributions/218.248.1.194

Please consider this note a head's-up on a recent spate of articles changes and abusive talk page remarks by an apparent single-purpose IP account Special:Contributions/218.248.1.194 to Kannada-related articles. Those abused in the remarks include User:Dineshkannambadi, User:Sarvagnya, User:KNM, and User:Amarrg, per [1]. Additional abusive remarks and edit summaries directed to Dineshkannambadi are to be found in the IP's history log.

While I can revert the abusive talk page remarks, the IP's contribution history also shows a string of changes to multiple Indian history articles. Given the circumstances, it appears that these changes are of questionable merit. Unfortunately, I am not qualified on the topic content to determine if any of the other changes are correct. Mysore mallige

I have almost completed two more articles, one titled " Architectural legacy of Karnataka" tracing from Kadamba period to the present which covers all schools of architecture (Tibetan, Church, Neo Dravidian and Sikh architectre also included) and another on Mutts in Karnataka. In the first article I have substantially used material from your very remarkably well done FA articles on architecture of Hoysala, Chalukaya and other tempels including photos (I hope there are no issues on this aspect) and supplemented with more info and photos. During my recent visit to Bangalore I bought a very informative CD (valued Rs 500) on "EPIGRAPHIA CARNATICA" prepared by ICHR Southern Regional Cetre, Bangalore, which should provide me more info on the subject of my article. Encyclopaedia and Encyclopedia in Literature in the Hoysala Empire

Encyclopaedia and Encyclopedia are both common in British English, based on my searches and reading of reference materials, including several Wikipedia comments. An editor might want to use Encyclopedia so as to keep the spelling consistent with both American and British English usage, and perhaps be a bit neater. However, since Encyclopaedia remains relatively common in British English, it seems to me that this ought to be primary author's choice.

For the article Literature in the Hoysala Empire, the two spelling variations are a moot point. The reference books use the Encyclopaedia spelling, as clearly confirmed by an ISBN lookup at several different library and book-seller locations. Even if the original titles used the ash and were anglicized, "ae" (not "e") is generally considered an acceptable modern English spelling substitute. Based upon the book listings, Redtigerxyz was mistaken in editing the book reference titles to use the Encyclopedia spelling. Commons categories

Thanks for your message. A photo or gallery page is placed in a category by adding the text [[Category:Temples of Karnataka]] (or whichever category you want) to the bottom of the photo/gallery page. See Commons:Categories for full details.

You should make sure that categories only contain appropriate content. By that, I mean it would be OK to put the Triprantaka Temple gallery into the Temples of Karnataka category, but it would be inappropriate to place the Belur gallery there because Belur is a town, not a temple of Karnataka.

Karnataka is the top level category for everything to do with Karnataka, including the temples, so you should be able to find everything you need in there.

The King, king business is pretty straightforward. The Manual of Style says here: When used as titles (that is, followed by a name), items such as president, king and emperor start with a capital letter: President Clinton, not president Clinton. On the other hand, it says: When used generically, such items are in lower case: De Gaulle was a French president and Louis XVI was a French king. Hoysala Empire

Unfortunately it does that with some infoboxes and not others. I'm trying to move old countries to regions. Putting Asia in the continent box prevents them from moving. See Category:Former countries in Asia. "It should list very few, if any, article pages directly and should mainly contain subcategories." Hi Dinesh. Some time back an editor has added "Manodharma Sangeetham" to Improvisation Section of Carnatic Music without giving English meaning. I added the meaning as 'free style rendering of raga depending on artists expertise and imagination'. However some other editor keeps deleting the meaning. I guess meaning is required. I've got an idea

Would you be willing to help us out at Robot? I see that you're an electrical engineer from India. Robot is currently at WP:GAR, which means we have to get our act together or they'll take away our Good Article status. One of the sections is Eastern and Western views. I have a great book on Japanese views of robotics, and we have some active Chinese-Americans on Wikipedia working on robots, but we don't currently have anyone who would be good at giving us an Indian perspective on robotics. Do you have any ideas on this already, or would you like to find something on the subject and contribute a few sentences? Thanks a lot- I have deleted the two images you pointed out. The collage used a copyrighted map as the base, so I deleted it as a copyvio. The lower resolution of your image from the temple was not in use, did not cite you as a source and was redundant as yours is higher resolution, so I deleted that too. Hi Dinesh, those kingdoms were removed as more than three continuous examples becomes a list. Since we have to maintain summary style, only the top three were retained. Many other kingdoms have also been omitted because we use the summary style. Its not the notability factor, rather the most prominent. Warkari-Haridasa

The two traditions are started around the same time, both Vaishnava, but in different regions: Maharashtra and Karnataka. I never came across the Haridasa faith but searching for Vithoba. The only Haridasa person i encountered was Purandardas, who starts with a salutation to Vithala, another name of Vithoba. Another important link with Karnataka is Vithoba's temple at Hampi, constructed in 15th century. No, I don't need anything for Literature in the Hoysala Empire ... you already gave me a nice barnstar (see User:Dank55/Shiny_things). Michael Devore does do a lot of copyediting ... people will check how many edits they made to the article at FAC, so it's probably not a good idea to offer someone a FAC co-nom unless they do a lot of work on the particular article you're nominating, but yes, if Michael or anyone else makes a lot of edits to an article, and if their work is important and even essential, absolutely! Well, there's absolutely no need to feel guilty; different people have wildly different standards for what it takes to be a co-nominator. Malleus Fatuorum and I copyedited History of timekeeping devices at FAC, which already had 7 co-nominators, and they liked our contributions so much that they offered us co-noms too! (We declined.) Other people feel strongly that their name alone should be on the nomination since they did most of the work. I am always encouraging people to work together and share credit, because that's how professional writing actually gets done (even if publishers like to hype the writer as the "star", so you often see just one name on a book cover or magazine article). It's completely up to you. My personal standard is that someone shouldn't ask for co-nom credit for doing a just few things, but I typically make a lot of edits when I collaborate; I know AP Stylebook and much of TCMOS, which reflects professional writing standards in the US; I know guidelines and policies, including WP's style guidelines; and I am familiar with FAC. Kannada literature in the Western Chalukya Empire

Amazing work with Kannada literature in the Western Chalukya Empire, Dinesh. I learnt so much from that article. I have a few suggestions for improvement below.

  • While I understand that there's a need to give the historical context of the powers in throne at various points in time (given the subject), you should consider separating those into background sections separate from those that talk about the literature itself. For example the text below, though completely relevant to the article, doesn't gel with the text following it in the same para (there is an abrupt change in flow). Nor does it fit the section title.

  • The text in the lead should be sharpened to focus more on the literature and grouping the story about the empires to one para.
  • The article has a lot of content. In the interest of summary style, the sections need to be condensed with the original text moved to separate main articles.
  • Do we need to give context in parentheses to the extent of explaining that Karna was a half-brother of Arjuna? It'll definitely help the uninitiated, but they can always look the linked articles, right? Similarly, in one instance, you explain who Shaivites are, and later you explain who Shaiva Brahmins are. This adds to the already lengthy article.
  • Doesn't it merit a mention that the Veerashaiva movement and the emphasis on using native metre and vocabulary has a similarity with the movement of Azhwars and Nayanmars?

On a related note, I recommend reverting the recent edit which changed the references to use a scroll area. This behavior is prohibited by the Manual of Style (see MOS:SCROLL). Im not sure on the authenticity of this sentence, but it was ambigious so I modified it to "The ISRO chief scientist Mylswamy Annadurai was the Project Director for this mission." Request you to Review it and make this WP more readable, as its read by international community.

Also the sentence "Chandrayaan in many languages roughly means" doesnt sound good. Plz modify it to say "Chandrayaan in Sanskrit means moon-craft or moon vehicle" like that whatever is more accurate

For the next few weeks, this article will receive numerous hits. I suggest we wait for the euphoria to settle, when it will be easy to copy edit the article and maintain its stability. Right now, no matter how many citations we provide, it will be vandalised repeatedly. Currently, there seems to be a real shortage of copy editors, the existing good ones generally tied down by too many projects. Sometimes, when readers find it difficult to understand an invloved topic, they generalise it as lack of coherence. Indian religion related articles are the best examples of difficult topics. User:Nvvchar is an user who seems to have good knowledge of Hinduism related topics and he seems to often write DYK articles on Sanskrit related topics. After that, you can decide whether to take it directly to FAC, or perhaps consider asking another editor for a final look. I've worked on the article for so much, I no longer have the necessary distance to see remaining issues and have begun to second-guess myself. The wording is a bit rougher in some spots than others, but you have made very significant improvements there in the past two weeks and the entire article reads better for your work. I don't think you should get a flat rejection on prose at FAC, though further work may be requested to ultimately get promoted. Karnataka kingdoms and Indianisation of South East Asia

Which page is it on. I could not find that in the link page. Regarding influences, over the period 1-1000AD, just about all the famous South Indian empires had extensive trade with SE Asia in addition to the west. So their influences are bound to be accumalative. Chalukya includes Eastern Chalukya from Andhra Pradesh. An interesting recent finding/debate is the prolific sculptures of "corn" in many shapes and sizes, in Hoysala temples, especialy in the hands of certain deities. This according to some scholars was because of extensive Hoysala trade with S.America where corn is said to have originated. Why did you remove the map? I agree that there is already a map of Mysore in the article but the one that exists is for the kingdom of Mysore and the one I added is of the princely state. Ravichander, my removing the map was not a knee jerk reaction. There is a second map which represents Kingdom/princely state in the 19th-20th century. It has better perspective from a India point of view. The map you added is crowded with so many details and it a zoomed in map, which if anything is confusing. Three maps is too many. See this link. I think either ragavbesthar or shashi kumar have taken beautiful snaps of this Hoysala-Chalukya temple. Initially I think this temple had been given enormous importance during the time of the Rashtrakutas.
