Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Sexual violence in Haiti, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gendarme (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Articles on recent Brazilian history.

Delldot: I appreciated your review on my GAN for Landless Workers Movement and generally agree with it. I would like you to do me a favor, if possible: to take a look at my newest GAN , the article on Leonel Brizola and to offer a combined analysis of the two articles, perhaps with Paulo Francis too (a former GAN). All thrice impinge on Brazilian political issues from the 1960s on and should perhaps be reviewed as a whole Cerme (talk) 18:31, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)

The Wikipedia Library gets Wikipedia editors free access to reliable sources that are behind paywalls. Because you are signed on as a medical editor, I thought you'd want to know about our most recent donation from Cochrane Collaboration.

  • Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization that conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.
  • Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account.
  • If you are still active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)

WP:FOUR RFC

There are two WP:RFCs at WP:FOUR. The first is to conflate issues so as to keep people from expressing meaningful opinions. The second, by me, is claimed to be less than neutral by proponents of the first. Please look at the second one, which I think is much better.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:26, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

This is the first of a series of newsletters for Wikiproject Medicine's Translation Task Force. Our goal is to make all the medical knowledge on Wikipedia available to the world, in the language of your choice.

Spotlight - Simplified article translation

Wikiproject Medicine started translating simplified articles in February 2014. We now have 45 simplified articles ready for translation, of which the first on African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness has been translated into 46 out of ~100 languages. This list does not include the 33 additional articles that are available in both full and simple versions.

Our goal is to eventually translate 1,000 simplified articles. This includes:

We are looking for subject area leads to both create articles and recruit further editors. We need people with basic medical knowledge who are willing to help out. This includes to write, translate and especially integrate medical articles.

What's happening?

IEG grant
CFCF - "IEG beneficiary" and editor of this newsletter.

I've (CFCF) taken on the role of community organizer for this project, and will be working with this until December. The goals and timeline can be found here, and are focused on getting the project on a firm footing and to enable me to work near full-time over the summer, and part-time during the rest of the year. This means I will be available for questions and ideas, and you can best reach me by mail or on my talk page.

Wikimania 2014

For those going to London in a month's time (or those already nearby) there will be at least one event for all medical editors, on Thursday August 7th. See the event page, which also summarizes medicine-related presentations in the main conference. Please pass the word on to your local medical editors.

Integration progress

There has previously been some resistance against translation into certain languages with strong Wikipedia presence, such as Dutch, Polish, and Swedish.
What was found is that thre is hardly any negative opinion about the the project itself; and any such critique has focused on the ways that articles have being integrated. For an article to be usefully translated into a target-Wiki it needs to be properly Wiki-linked, carry proper citations and use the formatting of the chosen target language as well as being properly proof-read. Certain large Wikis such as the Polish and Dutch Wikis have strong traditions of medical content, with their own editorial system, own templates and different ideas about what constitutes a good medical article. For example, there are not MEDRS (Polish,German,Romanian,Persian) guidelines present on other Wikis, and some Wikis have a stronger background of country-specific content.

  • Swedish
Translation into Swedish has been difficult in part because of the amount of free, high quality sources out there already: patient info, for professionals. The same can be said for English, but has really given us all the more reason to try and create an unbiased and free encyclopedia of medical content. We want Wikipedia to act as an alternative to commercial sources, and preferably a really good one at that.
Through extensive collaborative work and by respecting links and Sweden specific content the last unintegrated Swedish translation went live in May.
  • Dutch
Dutch translation carries with it special difficulties, in part due to the premises in which the Dutch Wikipedia is built upon. There is great respect for what previous editors have created, and deleting or replacing old content can be frowned upon. In spite of this there are success stories: Anafylaxie.
  • Polish
Translation and integration into Polish also comes with its own unique set of challenges. The Polish Wikipedia has long been independent and works very hard to create high quality contentfor Polish audience. Previous translation trouble has lead to use of unique templates with unique formatting, not least among citations. Add to this that the Polish Wikipedia does not allow template redirects and a large body of work is required for each article.
(This is somewhat alleviated by a commissioned Template bot - to be released). - List of articles for integration
  • Arabic
The Arabic Wikipedia community has been informed of the efforts to integrate content through both the general talk-page as well as through one of the major Arabic Wikipedia facebook-groups: مجتمع ويكيبيديا العربي, something that has been heralded with great enthusiasm.
Integration guides

Integration is the next step after any translation. Despite this it is by no means trivial, and it comes with its own hardships and challenges. Previously each new integrator has needed to dive into the fray with little help from previous integrations. Therefore we are creating guides for specific Wikis that make integration simple and straightforward, with guides for specific languages, and for integrating on small Wikis.

Instructions on how to integrate an article may be found here [3]

Please comment on Talk:Epilepsy

Hi! I apologize for addressing you with this issue. You are a major contributor of the article on post-traumatic seizure and epilepsy. There is some disagreement between editors with regard to the article on epilepsy, in particular if we should have a separate section "mechanism" there. Some arguments have been made (summary: [4]). An RfC did not really help, because it is unclear what the "mechanism" is supposed to be at all, since (unlike other diseases) there are a variety of causes of epilepsy. An outline for content on the issue has been made [5] but not yet agreed on. Possibly you could have a look there. Jophiel 14:32, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Convert template

You mentioned the convert template on the River dolphin GA review page. You can add an extra parameter to make the conversion to any degree of accuracy you require. I only discovered this recently, and I used to think that "abbr=on" had some effect of this sort, but it only refers to how the unit of measurement is displayed. See these examples: Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:57, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

  • 1,500 metres (4,921.260 ft)
  • 1,500 metres (4,921.26 ft)
  • 1,500 metres (4,921.3 ft)
  • 1,500 metres (4,921 ft)
  • 1,500 metres (4,920 ft)
  • 1,500 metres (4,900 ft)
  • 1,500 metres (5,000 ft)
  • 1,500 metres (0 ft)
Very cool! I went to the doc of the template to try to get it to say "1500 meter" (as in a 1500 meter dolphin) but couldn't figure it out. Although I did find the adj=on parameter to give it a hyphen (a 1500 meter-long dolphin). Any ideas? Thanks for the note! delldot ∇. 15:34, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Recently deleted B原子炉‎

Hi, I was wondering whether you have seen my comments at Talk:B原子炉‎? I was unable to save them before you deleted the article. Is it possible to move the article to the Japanese Wikipedia? AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 08:11, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

Oh, hi AtHomeIn神戸, I must have deleted it right before you saved that, otherwise I would have seen it. Thanks for pointing it out. I can give you the source if you want to move it yourself, would that work? delldot ∇. 08:15, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me. I have never created a page on the Japanese wiki, so it sounds like a good opportunity to try it out. Will you copy it to my user space first, or what is the process? AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 08:16, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
P.S. On second thoughts, would it be more appropriate for the original author to do it? AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 08:17, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
AtHomeIn神戸: Sure, your userspace would be great. It might make sense to mention it to the author but honestly I've never had much luck actually starting conversations with people whose pages I speedy--not sure my messages get read. Might be fastest to drop them a note like "I'm going to do this, let me know if it's not ok" then go ahead after a bit. Would you want to leave a message in Japanese? delldot ∇. 08:23, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, I will take your suggested course of action. I'll check whether they are a regular contributor at the Japanese wiki and decide how I contact them from there. One problem though, I can't see the history to find the user's name. If you could put the text in my user space and tell me their name it would be appreciated. Thanks, AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 08:51, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

A final word from me, the other user has created the article on the Japanese wiki (ja:B原子炉‎), so I no longer require the page in my user space. Sorry for the trouble, but would you please delete it? Thank you for your assistance. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:02, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your assistance on the Emilio Williams page. I do not speak Spanish, which clearly limits my range. Are reviews of playwrights included on wikipedia pages? I don't want to add anything that isn't appropriate. MauraJunius (talk) 15:49, 16 December 2015 (UTC)MauraJunius

Hey MauraJunius, thanks for working on this! It's good to take a cautious approach, I appreciate you doing that. I don't know about playwrights specifically, but there are often "Reception" sections in articles about plays and other works that talk about critical acclaim or however the work was received. So it might make sense to include summaries of those things. A benefit to that is the more you can reference reliable sources that mention him, the more clearly his notability is established, keeping the article more safe from deletion. Remember that all facts need to be cited to a reliable source, and the article should be neutral in tone. That's all I got for right now! Let me know if I can help out or if you want me to look at it after you've worked on it. Peace, delldot ∇. 17:47, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
