I noticed that the page's writing wasn't nearly up to the quality of WP:MILHIST, and did a little work to bring it closer. Your follow-up really improved the page; amazing work, as always. As for Ryu Kaze, he hasn't edited since October 2006. I check every few years to see if he's back in action, but, sadly, I don't think he's ever going to return. Great to see that you're doing major editing again, though. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 23:45, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Re: Hey thereHeh, you know, this is the... wow, fifth time I've been asked. Jacoplane way back in November '06, you in July '07, Wizardman last December, and MuZemike in March. I've turned them all down so far; but against my better judgment I'll go for it this time. I guess appealing to my experience in content creation was the key. :) Let the nitpicking over poorly-worded comments made years before begin! --PresN 04:25, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Re: Administrative toolsWhile I am honored to be considered as possible admin material, I'm going to have to politely decline. My main editing focuses are on article writing (for a very small group of subjects), copyediting and the Online print archive. I've never found myself in need of the admin tools while performing these tasks. Standard admin work—such as vandal fighting, backlog clearing and general maintenance—has never been my forté. On top of that, I have a fluctuating off-Wikipedia writing schedule, which can and has caused me to leave Wikipedia—without warning—for long periods of time. I have tremendous respect for the guys with the mop and bucket, but it just isn't for me. Sorry. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 08:37, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Re: Hey there... 2How dire is the situation? As you noticed, I'm technically semi-retired, but still edit a fair amount here and there. I placed the tag there more as a notice of my erratic free time. Because of that, however, I've focused on article writing more and more (sigh... one day we'll have a real compendium of video game history), helping out with project matters when it looks like it is needed. If there is a real need for more admins, even ones that may do very little with the tools, then I can apply. But I have the feeling that I won't live up to community expectations. Just feel that I should state that upfront. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:49, 11 November 2010 (UTC))

I do admit that I write a lot of FA's about subject material that can come off as dry and boring. The good thing about it is that I have almost free reign with the article so I can try a lot of things. However, the bad edge about that is when it comes to places like FAC, I get zero help. Sure, my article is under different "big" wikiprojects, but they usually do not send out their troops to help me get the article prose ready (everything else I can do pretty darn well). That is always my issue, even though English is my native language. When I put Flag of Japan at FAC, it took about 10 copyeditors to hack at it before it was passable. With the Russian anthem article, I think I used about 6 people just to do that. There is only so much I can person do and ask and if people still oppose after 4-6 copyeditors, then something is seriously wrong with the people we got or people just use prose as an auto-kill for subjects they don't understand. As I said before, with this article you have done amazing work and I do not mean of this rant to be against you. However, I just feel that no matter what I do, who I beg or what has been done copyediting wise, people will just come by and said "prose is bad, fail" and that's it. Good prose is what is needed at FAC and I do not object to that; however what I ask is to what extent do we get to say "that's enough" when it comes to the prose. 5 copyeditors? 10 copyeditors? If there are people saying the prose is bad and we have 20 copyeditors (exageration I know), then that should be something that needs to be looked at closely when it comes to promotions and failures at FAC. Released in 2006, it is the twelfth title in the Final Fantasy series. The game takes place in the fictional location of Ivalice, where the empires of Archadia and Rozarria are waging an endless war. Dalmasca, a small kingdom, is caught between the warring nations. When Dalmasca becomes annexed by Archadia, its princess, Ashe, creates a resistance movement. During the struggle, she meets Vaan, a young adventurer who dreams of commanding an airship. They are quickly joined by a band of allies; together, they rally against the tyranny of the Archadian Empire. Final Fantasy XII received universally high scores, and earned numerous awards in various categories from noted video game publications. Selling more than two million copies in Japan, it became the fourth best-selling PlayStation 2 game of 2006 worldwide. As of March 2007, the game has shipped over 5.2 million copies worldwide. A sequel, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, was released for the Nintendo DS in 2007. (more...)

Re: HeyHey, good to see you! The mop is good, thanks for nominating me. Things are going well; I keep poking around a bit at WP:SE- we absorbed the Dragon Quest taskforce so our scope exploded, though participation stayed about the same. I've started writing more FAs, mainly on indie video games, and kind of bounce between doing that and slowly getting all of the WP:SE articles above stub-class. We're about 90% there, and if we can do it I think we'd be the first project of significant size to do so. I would like to include your Wikipedia user page in a study I am doing about how people present themselves online. I am interested in whether people see themselves in different ways, online and offline. One of the things I am looking at is how contributors to Wikipedia present themselves to each other through their user pages. Would you consider letting me include your user page in my study? With your consent, I will read and analyze your user page, and ask you five short questions about it that will take about ten to fifteen minutes to answer. I am looking at about twenty user pages belonging to twenty different people. I will be looking at all user pages together, looking for common threads in the way people introduce themselves to other Wikipedians. I hope that my research will help answer questions about how people collaborate, work together, and share knowledge. If you are open to participating in this study, please reply to this message, on your User Talk page or on mine. I will provide you with a complete description of my research, which you can use to decide if you want to participate. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you. Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy. Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas. In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right. It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best. If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you again for your review and suggestions for improvement of Romney Classical Institute when it was a FAC. Unfortunately, it was not promoted due to a lack of momentum, so I will be bringing it back as a FAC in the future. In the meantime, I've nominated Sloan–Parker House to FAC at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Sloan–Parker House/archive1. Given your tremendously helpful review of Romney Classical Institute, I would greatly appreciate it if you could do the same for Sloan–Parker House. Your suggestions greatly improved the last article, and I would like to glean your insights and subject matter expertise for this article, too. I know we all have busy schedules, so if you are unable to, I definitely understand! This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:27, 4 May 2019 (UTC) Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community. Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised. We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered. For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC) GOCE June newsletter

Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale. You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki. When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed. Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help. If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter. We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January. Thank you. /Johan (WMF) 18:13, 4 January 2022 (UTC) GOCE April 2022 newsletter

(I have a COI as an employee of Pinduoduo’s sister company Temu and am trying to adhere strictly to the rules, which is why I’ve made a proposal instead of editing the page myself.) As you might know, Pinduoduo is China’s biggest e-commerce company for agricultural produce, so I hope that you might find the subject matter intriguing given your interest in Retail. Thanks very much for your time! Snowy2000 (talk) 17:11, 10 March 2023 (UTC) Guild of Copy Editors March 2023 Newsletter
