IP Trouble

Hey Deavanger, as to your IP nuisance, as far as I know there is no set process for blocking an IP, though I imagine there would be. Blocking IP addresses is the same as blocking users. The simplest way is to:

1. Go to an admin, preferably one who is involved with a project that Punjab Police falls under.

2. Show them what the IP has done

3. Ask them nicely to block this troublemaker

That's how I've gotten IPs blocked before. Thank you very much for coming to me about your problem. If you have any other dilemmas like this please let me know and I'll help as much as I can. Millions

As I said, poverty is relative. If you look at the global line of poverty, then only about a fifth to a third of India's population is in poverty, but if you look at poverty as it is in the west, then almost everybody is in poverty. Thanks Deavenger. I'm all for considering new reliable sources and differing views. But the section should still be kept neutral and edit warring certainly didn't help his case. That said, asking him to use the Talk page has not helped so far as he continues to pushing his POV. Hopefully, it won't get out of hand. Do me a favor and keep an eye on it. Hmm, I don't know what to do with him. So far we've been pretty strict with including sources that directly discuss a nation's potential to be a superpower. His sources are mainly OR or argue for special cases such as potential "economic superpower" or "superpower rival" in the Indian Ocean. What do you think about this? Potential superpowers

Hi Deavenger, I think I will go through the article and clean up sources that do not direct discuss a candidate's potential for superpower status. Take your time. I definitely appreciate the effort and am sure your research will be great. I like the two journal articles that you've compiled on your user page about Russia. In particular, the one from the Russian journal discusses not only Russia but other powers' potential as superpowers? Backward Castes in India

Hi there, sorry to revert your edit on Religious violence in Orissa. Actually OBC ( other backward castes) is the term used by the govt. "Lower caste" is POV as it suggests derogatory. See also Other Backward Class. Superpower

I've reverted the edits by the IP to the previous version. As I noted in the Talk page "There is no widespread belief in the international relations community that Russia is a "superpower" in the sense that it has been defined here. Fareed Zakaria in the The Post-American World (2008) that there is “one superpower, many great powers". Parag Khanna (2008) believes that Russia will never be a superpower given the foreseeable trends. Even China, a country cited many experts as having the highest chance of becoming a superpower does not have comparable global influence as the United States - and it will take at least some years/decade before it approaches the United States in comprehensive power. Bold statements that suggest a country has become a superpower should be supported by reliable sources from not only the media but also the academic community." I agree with what was said in the Noticeboard discussion. Key sources from international relations experts are desirable and preferred but I think there is nothing wrong with also including a source from the mainstream media to give further evidence from another viewpoint. As I said earlier, this issue is rather moot, as experts do not widely consider China much less Russia a full-fledged superpower comparable to the United States. Moreover, Zakaria, as recently as this year, believes that the US fulfills the role of the sole superpower. Nirvana888 (talk) 00:39, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, I think the best way is to include both articles from influential IR journals (e.g. Foreign Affairs) and reliable mainstream sources such as NYT. Also, if the IP editor is convinced that Russia is a superpower, they should probably have a look at the Russia section in potential superpowers as it certainly does not suggest that Russia is currently a superpower and in my view should be overhauled if necessary before we make bold changes in the superpower article lead.
I'll have a look. Ideally, Hobie would best be able to accumulate evidence on possible sockpuppetry since he is most familiar with Versace's modus operandi and has been the main target of his interactions. Nirvana888 (talk) 06:11, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
