Hello Darzet boy and welcome. I see you have had some of your recent contributions to this article removed. I expect Barret will be in touch shortly to explain in detail why, in the meantime don't let it put you off contributing, it takes a while to get used to how things work around here :). At a quick glance it appears that the material was unreferenced and was not in the appropriate style. You might want to take a look at WP:Reliable sources and WP:Citing sources. WP:Manual of style explains what I mean by 'appropriate style'.
If you wish to add more to the Chickerell article, you can find some useful information here [[1]] and here [[2]]. I've already made a start. Good Luck!--Ykraps (talk) 11:47, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Hello Darzet boy, apologies if my edit summary wasn't clear, I should have left an explanation here. These are the reasons why I reverted some of your edits:
- Single sentence paragraphs are discouraged.
- External links shouldn't be placed in the body of the article.
- Verifiability is an important Wikipedia policy. Content which could be questioned must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation. Otherwise people could add anything they like to Wikipedia and pass it off as fact. I'm not suggesting the material you added is incorrect, but the info about the postal address for example needs a source.
- You removed England from the opening sentence but some readers may not know which country Chickerell is situated in. (Wikipedia:Manual of Style (lead section))
- I don't think the location of Hardy's Monument or the National Sailing Academy is very relevant to this article.
- I hope I haven't put you off contributing towards Wikipedia and if you disagree with any of this let me know. Like Ykraps says, over time you'll become familiar with all the policies and guidelines linked above. From your username I guess you're interested in Dorset - you are welcome to add your name to the list of participants at Wikipedia:WikiProject Dorset. All the best. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Chickerell has been reverted.
Your edit here to Chickerell was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (http://daveg4otu.tripod.com/dorset/chi.html) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 09:51, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Weymouth, Dorset do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia.

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted or removed.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor then please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive; until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively could result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you.
Vandalising other people's userpages will eventually get you blocked. Your choice. Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:36, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can I suggest some pages for you to read so that your edits don't get reverted as they have been today? Firstly look at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. The citation templates, especially {{cite web}} and {{cite news}} are very useful for adding references. Then look at WP:RS to understand what shouldn't be used as a reference - especially personal pages and spam sites. Finally look at WP:ELNO. If you have any questions please ask. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 10:24, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Do also note WP:RS and WP:V about what is a suitable reference - self-published data, like it typically is hosted on tripod etc., is not always suitable as a reference. Thanks. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:33, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not attack other editors, as you did here: User:Simple Bob. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 08:07, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So, you insist in adding external links only. You have been pointed to our relevant policies and guidelines over and over (first in friendly remarks, later in warnings), still you insist in not discussing that, but calling removal of them misplace, hence:
This is your only warning; if you insert a spam link to Wikipedia again, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.
Now, you first discuss any link additions you do on talkpages of the relevant pages (either here, or on Talk:Chickerell). We are writing an encyclopedia here. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:10, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not add or change content, as you did at Alvis Stalwart, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. (Hohum @) 01:12, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(Hohum Hohum), I guess you're point scoring. MOD's Merlin vehicle archive, The Times archive, Stout Sturdy and Strong the Alvis Stalwart Story and relevant named websites are all reliable sources.
- No, just hoping you'd provide references which conform to wikipedia requirements (reliable, and including enough information so that they can be found by others) for all of the information you added. (Hohum @) 01:08, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
