I see you moved the article "List of Cities in Brazil" to the title "List of Municipalities in Brazil". First, and precisely to save us this work, please remember to suggest such changes on the talk page before carrying them out. Sometimes, what we believe to be clear cut turns out to not be so. And this is one of those cases: as a matter of praxis and uniformity, such lists on Wikipedia are named "list of cities". Terms such as county and municipality are a matter of political denomination which each country defines in its own legislation. It is not the same as cities and towns or villages, which are a question of size or importance. The list of Brazilian cities does not make this differentiation, since it includes large and small places. For that reason, the name "list of cities" is appropriate, since it conforms to the standard naming of this kind of article on Wikipedia. List of Brazilian JewsWould you mind looking at the recent history of this list and making a comment.-Brownlee 12:37, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I have "kidnapped" the article, if by "kidnapped" you mean "requested references". Probably in the same way List of British Jews was "kidnapped." Furthermore, though it may not be apparent to some editors, lists of Jews should not and will not be treated any different from other lists. Simply because some of their entries may be controversial, this does not make the lists "special." Dubious entries should be analyzed for legitimacy as with any other list on wikipedia. It is unfortunate that confirming and listing a something-Jew is very difficult, much more difficult than confirming and listing a Japanese person for List of Japanese people. It is about as equivalently difficult as listing people in Lists of Something-Americans. Expectedly, almost all of the Lists of Americans lists are very nicely referenced. Furthermore, nationality lists are almost all articled, and yet still if an unconfirmed name is added to List of Australians or List of Chinese people, it is questioned and often removed without much debate if a confirmation cannot be made. Also, if you're wondering why Brazilian Jews was fact-checked instead of North American Jewish lists, it is simply because List of Canadian Jews and List of Jewish Americans are almost entirely articled so they usually don't need separate references. There are slim to no red links, and thus a persons Jewishness can be easily confirmed by the article and typically, whatever reference the article gives. If it can't, it should and usually is flagged with a fact-check too. Anyway, you seem to have had very little problems finding references for those names. All appear to be in tune with WP:RS from a quick glance I made. I wish I could have helped but the sources would, unsurprisingly, be in Portuguese. Unfortunately and embarrasingly, I only know English. But you did a very nice, clean, and quick addition of references, so despite me feeling bad for not helping, I can't help but see the benefits. It made the list much more legitimate looking for one thing. 72.144.139.117 04:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
BraccianoDear Dantadd, I have noticed you changed back the voice "Bracciano", some of which I had recently modified. I apologize for the modifications I made: I am a bit new to this, and I assume they did not go in the right directions. Still, could you please explain to me why, so that I know for another time? Here are the reasons for the changes: 1) I thought the introduction could be shortened, and that some reference could be made to the sorrounding of Bracciano (the other towns near the lake). 2) I thought that the reason why Bracciano was built upon the hill, rather that at its basis, was very interesting, but would fit a bit more not right there in the introduction (I had put it instead at the end of the historic section, altough I have to confess I did not feel it was much better there). 3) I had the feeling (but this is very subjective) that the picture did not truly represent the city, for - although it was very well-taken - it was of a minor part. Again, I apologize for an unrequested change. Britney SpearsHey, I reverted your edit here because it contradicted the Jamie-Lynn article. Is the date of birth there incorrect also? My quick online search seemed to indicate the current version is correct. -SpuriousQ (talk) 03:02, 10 February 2007 (UTC) Changes in Rio de JaneiroDear Dantadd, you have made several changes to the Rio de Janeiro article that are difficult to understand (even though you have labelled them "minor"): you removed all the links to the old monuments of Rio which, incidentally, were mostly created by me. Thus, the links to the Paço Imperial, Candelária Church, Old Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Passeio Público (Rio de Janeiro) and Quinta da Boa Vista have all disappeared after your edit. Since there were many changes after yours, to revert this will be hard. Please be careful next time. Fsouza 01:29, 19 April 2007 (UTC) Pois é, reverter vandalismo pode ser mesmo meio "tricky". Fique frio que isso passa até nas melhores famílias... :) Obrigado por voltar o artigo ao original. Regards, Fsouza 03:50, 19 April 2007 (UTC) Changes to BandeirantesJust curious why you removed the list of names from this article - a word or two of explanation would have been useful. Regards. Jpaulm 14:45, 11 May 2007 (UTC) I now see what you did - I am afraid I don't agree, but I guess you're the expert... For instance, why move the movie title when it's about the Bandeirantes? Seems like overkill to me. Jpaulm 16:48, 12 May 2007 (UTC) BrazilI didn't invent the names, I only conglomerated the giant lists. They seem to work - a lot of Brazilians use and update/improve the pages. If you see it as an improvement, offer up your suggestion at WikiProject Brazil. But remember this - they must all be changed, not only one. Rarelibra 02:33, 20 May 2007 (UTC) Abdul Kalam picI like the previous Abdul Kalam pic better. Any reason for the change? --AStanhope 01:04, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Agência Brasil imagesHi there, I notice that you've nominated for speedy deletion a number of images in Category:Agência Brasil images, on the basis that there is no source information. However, the template Template:ABr clearly states the source already within the template text, fulfilling the source requirement, so as such I don't think these qualify for speedy deletion? Also what you told me to do to my image: "please add the {non-free fair use in|article name} tag that the image is used in, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image" I had already done that, so I'm not sure what you meant or what was wrong. I would like to discuss your alteration of the Brazilian pianist's surname. The current spelling may be "Novais", but this is scarcely the matter here: the point is that Guiomar was registered as "Novaes" when she was born in 1896, and that is the name under which she became famous. I have many of her LPs and CDs, and ALL of them bring "Novaes", with an "e", on the cover. Also, there is no such thing as correct spelling as far as personal names are concerned. That is why we still have, in happy co-existence, the forms "Hawthorne" and "Hawthorn", "Kerr" and "Carr", "Alec" and "Aleck", "Davidson" and "Davison", "Monroe" and "Munro", and many others (in Portuguese too: a boy born today may be called "Luiz" or "Luís"). Moreover, if you go the current spelling route, you'll have to write Jeffrey (and not Geoffrey) Chaucer for the poet, Louis (instead of Lewis) Carroll for the writer, Steven (rather than Stephen) Kovacevich for the pianist, and so on. In light of this, I think that the Novaes spelling should be reinstated on the page. Best regards, MUSIKVEREIN 19:33, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks again for your learned commentary, Dantadd. I can't say that I agree with you, but I admire your erudition in the matter at hand and, as I already said, I'm happy to leave it at that. However, it just occurred to me that this poses a problem within the English language Wikipedia, since the Sergei Rachmaninoff page follows exactly the opposite rationale. As you can see from the extensive discussion thereon carried out on the relevant talk page, it was decided that the spelling "Rachmaninoff", with "ff", should be favoured over "Rachmaninov", with "v" - even though the latter was the correct form according to the applicable transliteration rules - because the composer himself signed his name in the former French-influenced manner. Therefore, we have two pages in the same encyclopedia following different criteria, which is certainly not a good thing. Perhaps a way of obviating this inconsistency is to repeat in the Novais page the pattern adopted in Rachmaninoff's, that is, including a comment saying that although "Novais" is the current recommended spelling, the form "Novaes" is still found in various sources. Há uma grande dificuldade de alguns editores em entenderem que Portugal não fica na Espanha e que já não usamos o termo hispânico para Portugal. Não entendem nem com as fontes que estão a tentar remover.
