Cultural appropriationHello, Djbaniel. How ya doin'? :) Thanks for stopping by my page to drop me a note and for getting cultural appropriation off to a really good, running start. I rewrote portions of it and, hopefully have improved it a bit. I added text relating to the power relationships between originating and exploiting cultures, as it is central to the meaning of the term. (After all, we don't speak of "cultural appropriation" when commenting on the wearing of Western dress by other cultures. :p) As an African-American whose culture has been pimped mercilessly and virtually universally, I share your viewpoint about people looking foolish and what not, but I had to rework that portion a bit. It's probably not as effective, but at least its NPOV (neutral point of view) -- Wiki policy 'n' all. I see you're relatively new to the project, so WELCOME! Peace 2 u. :D deeceevoice 15:45, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC) Hey, early riser/night owl. :) Your suggestion sounds intriguing. While I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to contribute, though, from an "American perspective," I'd be more than pleased to contribute what I can from an African-American perspective :p -- the two are quite different. I need a better sense, though, of what you have in mind. Drop me another note, and I'll ponder it over the weekend. Meanwhile, this night owl is off to bed to catch a few z-z-z-z-zzzz's. Forgot to mention that your comment about "trustlocks" in Dreadlocks made me chuckle. Hadn't heard that one. Peace. deeceevoice 09:21, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC) AID projectOn this week's Article Improvement Drive voting, an article you supported was selected. This week we focus on improving Abortion to featured article status. Hope you can help. -- the wub (talk) 12:50, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC) Improvement driveYou nominated abortion to be improved by the WP:IDRIVE. The page is currently protected from editing however and is an extremely controversial subject. I have to remove the nomination for now. Try to nominate it again when the seas have calmed at this article. Sorry, I hope you understand.--Fenice 9 July 2005 12:38 (UTC) In this context, I have another idea: there is no article on Wikipedia on Human embryogenesis. This is information that is often needed in the edit wars on abortion. There is a new collaboration, Wikipedia:Science collaboration of the week, for which this would make a good nomination (and I would support it, btw).--Fenice 9 July 2005 12:42 (UTC) IDRIVECan you explain what you are doing to the IDrive topic?--Fenice 04:54, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

I think setting up a project to do this would be a great idea. Sadly, I have neither the technical knowledge to have anything to do with This nor the language skills to manually translate something, but I do feel that this is a worthwhile project and maybe you should try making a suggestion at the village pump. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. Speedy deletion nomination of List of oldest religious organizationsA tag has been placed on List of oldest religious organizations, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. My name is Annie Lin - I'm the Campus Team Coordinator at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm contacting you because you're listed as a resident of San Francisco, and we're currently looking for a friendly Wikipedian to teach students in a University of San Francisco class how to use/edit Wikipedia. This is a role titled the "Wikipedia Campus Ambassador," and you'll basically be doing in-class presentations about Wikipedia, running Wikipedia labs/workshops, and in general providing face-to-face Wikipedia help for the professor and the students in the class. The time commitment is about 3-5 hours a week (with variations throughout the semester), and for this particular University of San Francisco class, most of the workload will be between March and May. Please let me know if you're interested! Thanks. Annie Lin (Campus Team Coordinator, Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 19:05, 25 January 2011 (UTC) The Great American WiknicHi there! In the past, you've expressed an interest in local meetups of Wikipedians. Well, here's your chance! On Saturday, June 25, we'll be joining Wikipedians in cities all over the country for the first annual Great American Wiknic -- the picnic that anyone can edit! We'll meet up at a park in SF -- hopefully in the sun -- all other details are still in deliberation! If this sounds fun, please add your name to the list: Wikipedia:Meetup/San Francisco/Wiknic and add that page to your watchlist. We'll be working on articles relating to women and democracy (and anything else that interests you). It's sponsored by the California League of Women Voters, Tech Liminal, and me. If this is the first you are hearing of this event, my apologies for the last-minute notice! I announced it on the San Francisco email list and by a banner on your watchlist, but I neglected to look at the San Francisco invitation list until this evening. Co-coordinators Ben Creasy and Wayne Reminder: Tonight is Bay Area WikiSalon at NoisebridgeDetails and to RSVP: Wikipedia:Bay Area WikiSalon, March 2017 (optional, but helpful for food and special needs accommodations) We are meeting at Noisebridge makerspace/hackerspace (temporary venue change) near 16th ST BART in SF. See you soon! Co-coordinators Ben Creasy and Wayne Concerning WP:TranslationWhile I applaud your enthusiasm and boldness, I took the liberty of reverting your edits there. I do not agree with your unilateral change(s) at all. I'd rather see this discussed on the talk-page or at WP:PNT, to get more eyes on it. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 21:25, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
Reply from daniel.informMy fellow more-multilingual Wikipedians, thank your comments above. All I can say is that this has been a somewhat embarrassing learning experience. I am still not quite certain that worse than nothing is strictly correct, assuming we're talking about this or this type of machine translation. On the other hand, some machine translation errors are indeed very bad. (Of course the examples in the section above were from the old even-less-accurate version of Google Translate.) Currently when I think about all of the great articles which are nonexistent in other languages, it makes me cringe. I suppose that one prudent thing to do is to monitor the machine translation technology as it seems to finally be progressing quickly, after about eight years of stagnation. The universal claim of worse than nothing is still logically a very high bar in the context of an 87% reduction of machine translation errors. Daniel.inform (talk) 05:02, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
