Hi! I'm curious, why did you blank Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: King Edward VI School (Chelmsford)? --Tango 18:05, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because I'd created in error, it was a typo of Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: King Edward VI Grammar School (Chelmsford) DBD 19:15, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I'll delete it for you. --Tango 19:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template:S-roy

Greetings Mr {e.g. Rees Jones}. I have just noticed the existence and rather extensive usage in a category of succession boxes of the template s-roy, which you have created. I would therefore like to inquire as to the purpose of this template apart from it being a header for heirs to the British Crown, as well as to the fact that there is no documentation or any other information concerning it whatsoever (which is the reason why I am asking these questions in the first place).

I would also like to inform you of the existence of the Succession Box Standardization WikiProject, which takes care of all issues pertaining to succession boxes. You might be interested enough to register yourself as a member, or you might not; the fact remains that it would be much more preferable if you would discuss with us any new succession box templates before their creation, more so their use, in order to ensure that they will conform to our standards and will not create any undesirable problems in our template system.

Please answer here, rather than in my talk page, so that the conversation shall remain unfragmented. Thank you for your time. Waltham, The Duke of 20:11, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not bothered enough to join the Project tbh, but I'm happy to let you guys do your thing! DBD 11:31, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am glad to hear this. However, this does not change the fact that there is no information available on the purpose of this template. In other words, we have no idea what exactly you had in mind when you created it. If you do provide some information, we might be able to integrate said template into our template system (as it does seem to fill in some holes). And, from now on, we would appreciate it very much if you would discuss an idea about a succession box template in our WikiProject's talk page before you create that template—I have already mentioned the dangers of uncontrolled template creation. Waltham, The Duke of 13:03, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, that all sounds fine – I created the template to fill a hole I saw specifically in where to place my "heirs to the British Crown", but it could be used for queens consort, etc. DBD 13:08, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, that is all that we needed to know. We will take over from here. Have a nice day, Mr {e.g. Rees Jones}, and thank you for your cooperation. Waltham, The Duke of 17:00, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A pleasure, Mr Peidis! DBD 17:04, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Impossible Things" userbox

Hi there. I don't understand the "switch" arguments on your John Smith/Impossible Things userbox. I see that it's both sentiments in one template, but not how you switch them. (I actually can't see me ever choosing the "live like John Smith" option.) More important to me, I was hoping to swap out two of the links to Human Nature (Doctor Who episode), but all I did was make a mess and I had to revert. Can you give me some quick tips? Thanks! -- Karen | Talk | contribs 04:44, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've introduced some code line-breaks, so it should be easier to see the links – i.e. they start in "[[". (I myself side with Smith). Which links, then, did you want to change? DBD 11:29, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to infobox at Anne of Denmark

I have put some comments on the talk page, proposing reversions. Please do reply. qp10qp 15:43, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Our edits to Counsellor of State

As a matter of interest, why'd you add the ‡ to the  Thailand reference in the Indian Ocean tour?

Also, btw, MediaWiki treats <br> and <br /> as identical and always outputs the XHTML-compliant form, so there's no point worrying about which is used in an article. I tend to leave them as <br> in articles as it's generally easier to read.

Great work on that table, though; it looks much better than I'd made it :o)

OwenBlacker 08:40, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The double-dagger was left over from when it said "Commonwealth tour", with a double-dagger noting that Thailand wasn't Commonwealth...

Yeah, sorry about the breaks, but I'm a bit anal, I always use XHTML strict when poss.

And well done yourself – your edits certainly prompted mine, I wouldn't've thought to edit if you hadn't – great work indeed sir! DBD 11:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2007 board elections - your endorsement

Hello DBD, Thank you for endorsing me in the 2007 Board election. Unfortunately, the election organisers have struck your endorsement out because you don't have a meta account nor a link from your user page here back to meta. It's bordering on the ridiculous, but that's the rules I'm afraid.

Here's what needs to be done, if you're willing:

  • Create an account on meta or log in
  • Place your endorsement using your meta account with a link back to the English Wikipedia ([[en:User:DBD|Wikipedia-en]])
  • Add something like this to your user page on this site:

This amount of bureaucracy is quite off-putting I'm sure; let's hope the developers have Wikimedia-wide single login in place before the next election! --kingboyk 11:10, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Camillia, HRH The...

Where else is that form used? It's absolutely awful! I'd rather have something like HRH The Duchess of Cornwall with Née Camilla Shand or whatever below it in a smaller font. But not this improper form... Charles 21:23, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's used nowhere else, I was considering the rest of the templates, where someone else had pointed out that the current holder should have their forename to differentiate them from the others – Camilla's name had no place in her title, so I placed it before. If you've gotta a preferable way of differentiating HRH from every other HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, then that is honestly great – what would you think of "Camilla Mounbatten-Windsor, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall"? But then there's the issue of Windsor vs MW... DBD 21:41, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Camilla doesn't have the surname Mountbatten-Windsor or Windsor. She took her husband's "surname" upon marriage, which is nothing. HRH should not follow a comma. Why not:
Camilla
Styled HRH The Duchess of Cornwall
That way there are no incorrectly placed comma. Or at least have them placed on separate lines to avoid that comma if "Styled" isn't used. Charles 01:35, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a change - what think ye? DBD 17:37, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pleased with it :-) Charles 21:06, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gordon Brown

Hi, just so you know, when Blair resigned, he also technically handed in the resignation of his whole government and all his ministers. So the office of Chancellor is currently vacant until Brown appoints new ministers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abc30 (talkcontribs) 14:12, 27 June, 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks! DBD 14:16, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just to say I'm not totally sure that is true. There seems to be general confusion about this, and I certainly wouldn't be as sure as Abc30 that it is the case. My understanding is it is not true, but I'm not 100%. --UpDown 19:01, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Anglicising royal names

I wasn't being awkward - I've seen you do some great work but had to disagree with this edit. I quite agree with Georg>George et al (albeit with a possible note stating the original name) but I think Louis>Lewis is going a bit too far. I'm sure PrEd and PrWi (and others) pronounce their names Loo-ee and not the less prestigious (however "anglican") Loo-iss. Imagine your name as the former and people pronouncing it as the latter (?) Re:Queens regnant and courtesy titles

I've looked for (and would love to provide) a source but can't find seem to find one. I changed the date back purely based on the fact that HM doesn't use Duke of Lancaster (although suo jure) so I can't imagine her being DoE etc. as a queen regnant. It was a rather broad and offset edit but I have a hunch that the use of DoE ceased in 1952. Craigy (talk) 23:04, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, naturally. The fount of honour springs to mind for some reason, but I don't think the two are related somehow (and I'm tired and probably just thinking too hard). Perhaps you should ask Proteus and see if he can do any better? Regards and g'nite, Craigy (talk) 23:19, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged Image:Impossible.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. howcheng {chat} 17:42, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I removed an image from Sarah, Duchess of York, as it was unsourced, and we have a very strict policy regarding images we can use, and you reverted me.[1] Please don't revert attempts to bring articles in line with our policy.

Hi Mauls – I've just stopped by Official opposition frontbench (UK), and find myself entirely confounded by the table, which, according to the edit history, you constructed. What exactly do the colours mean? As far as I can discern, it's Commons and Lords – but then why do some remain uncoloured? And also, why are there spacer column(s) on parts of the left of the table? Do they serve some purpose? Also, what purpose does the article in question fulfil, which isn't already fulfilled by Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet (United Kingdom)? Yours confusedly DBD 17:37, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To cover the issues in reverse order, the Shadow Cabinet is a much smaller group than the 'frontbench team', it isn't just the secretaries of State, it also includes the ministers for each department. It does explain this in the introduction to the article...
The colours do show Commons and Lords for the ministers, which should be self-explanatory - although feel free to add a key if you like. It's much more compact than writing 'Shadow Ministers in the Lords' and 'Shadow Ministers in the Commons' as used to be the case in the article.
The secretaries of state aren't coloured, as they cover the whole department, rather than being the representatives in a particular house.
The first column is meant to tie each department together, but it's not really necessary - the departmental headings do that pretty well. Feel free to remove them if they bother you.
Mauls 18:20, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Umm, actually I've now done both those things myself! :) Mauls 20:41, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Waterloo Road Episode Twenty.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
