Super Middleweight champHi - sorry if I am typing this in the wrong place - but why are many people under the impression that Joe Calzaghe is world IBF Super Middleweight Champion? - http://www.sportinglife.com/boxing/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=boxing/06/03/05/BOXING_Calzaghe_Lead.html - I don't understand why there are different stories - and given that there appear to be, why you opted for Bute over Calzaghe? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dbeaumont (talk • contribs) 14:35, 10 November 2007 (UTC) Boxing champsHi Claude, since you and me are basically the only regular editors to the article, I thought I'd let you know about this—I don't know about how fast it's updated, but it's certainly been useful for me as I don't have to troll through all of BoxRec's fights for a certain date anymore. east.718 08:43, 18 July 2007 (UTC) BoxingNegative, he hasn't vacated regardless of that, nor the OMB has stripped it he's going to do it however but hasn't done it, he is prancing around with both titles, pretty much like Floyd Mayweather who wasn't striped of his 147 title when he won another aganist De la Hoya, in that article he is even talking about defending both if possible (that's a big "if") but he's inclining to vacate the 105 one, however until he vacates the ist should reflect he is actually holding both as was the case with Mayweather. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:19, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't know if he vacated his title or was stripped, but he isn't the IBO champ anymore because they took him out of their list, I think because of the fact the he will move up in weight and next will box José López for the WBO junior bantamweight title. And in the top ten pound-4-pound list here, we list of course only the titles the boxer actually hold, not the ones they once held during their career... You are free to upload new images. However, if you do upload a new image, please upload it under a file name that will not overwrite an existing image and change the file manually in the article if you want to change it. You are overwriting different images which can be used in articles. And, as I have already said, the image you are uploading over the 3-star portrait of Zinni has already been uploaded as Image:Anthony Zinni.jpg, so please do not upload duplicates. Try to find out if the images you are uploading are the same as existing images. If an image on the Commons or Wikipedia is identical, but lower res or poorly cropped, for example, then you should feel free to upload over it. However, you are deleting other people's work by overwriting different images. Also, the purpose of the Wikimedia Commons is to create a repository of images, so having older photo portraits around is a good thing. Again, if you feel an article should have a more recent image of someone, upload it under a file name that will not overwrite an existing image and change the file manually in the article. I appreciate that you are willing to upload images, but let's try to do it in the best way possible. Agreed? Please let me know if you still have questions. Thanks. --Tom (talk - email) 15:23, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

QuestionI am a bit curious over this edit [3] I had changed it to the article's name a few hours before to avoid the redirect, the article's name excludes the "Angel" part based on naming convention, because he is more commonly known just as "Miguel Cotto" (he began using the 'Angel' part more frecuently around a year and a half ago), is there any particular reason bhind the edit? - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:57, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

CalzagheThe Ring definitely only ever have one title per boxer - see, for example, Mayweather, who was The Ring's junior welterweight champion until he moved up to welterweight - at that point, the junior welterweight title was vacated. Chances are they will vacate the super-middleweight title and bump Calzaghe to light-heavyweight, but until they update their rankings it's speculation, really. Neıl ☎ 14:01, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Re:Nah, I have been around pro boxing half of my life, he did his work, brought two belts to improve the per capita lead, I'm not going to complain. Unlike other countries, we have too many prospects to cry about lossing a champion. Now, when one of the young boxers fails to win a Olympic medal, that is frustrating, they have to do their work with less comodities and they do it for pride. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:46, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
David H. PetraeusThere's no need to exaggerate, I reverted it twice. I did so because I thought they were from the same date, because the source of the original image said so. Someone seems to have changed this. But I thought the other looked better, mostly because of the contrast. The contrast of the new photograph seems completely off, I'll try to do a colour correction. List of current world boxing championsTo be honest, I don't think that I can't handle this list alone. Real life has taken some real priority lately, during the last month, I barely edited at all. Now, I know that arguments could be bothersome, but don't let them get to you, if you don't want to discuss with a certain user directly leave me a note and I can try to find a "happy medium". I will try to keep the list updated after Christmas, but in February things will get busy. KentThat doesn't make sense. The Bestwick photo is dated as more recent than his official photo, but has less stars? The official photo clearly shows one silver and three bronze, and that photo is several years old. There is no way he has lost repeat awards of the Good Conduct Medal in the intervening years. And in any case, the Bestwick photo has two silver stars. It's fairly clear, and the photo is at a high enough resolution that you can see it pretty well. Also, when you consider how many years of service, it certainly makes sense that he rates two silver stars. I'm not sure where the Legion of Merit comes in, both photos show one award star. Same for the Sea service, the Bestwick photo shows one silver and three bronze, and while the older photo shows the same, one of the stars is obscured by his lapel. I'm not sure what you mean by your last sentance about "not having enough stars for both uniforms", but if you are implying that the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps is walking around wearing an improper uniform... well, let's just say that I'd believe that as much as I believe that aliens landed in Times Square; and I find it far more likely that you didn't look at the photos closely enough. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 12:30, 17 June 2009 (UTC) Hello, I have noticed that you are interested in the article Ring Magazine pound for pound. The article Paipharob Kokietgym has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. See archive of the talk page of "List of current..." plus the discussion at WP:BOXING, under... I think discussions... BoxRec lists him as from NIR (born and lives in Northern ireland), and that's part of GBR, not IRE. claudevsq (talk) 17:53, 13 July 2012 (UTC) Maybe you dont understand the difference between nationality and living in a country. They are not the same, I know it is a complex issue especially for individuals from Northern Ireland as there are a special set of laws and multiple allegiances involved. Northern Ireland is not in Great Britain, it is in the United Kingdom. Individuals from Northern Ireland are equally citizens of the United Kingdom and Ireland. For further reading on that subject please read the Belfast Agreement. Finally, here is a reference stating he is Irish and also current Irish boxer of the year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wonkey Donkey (talk • contribs) 18:30, 13 July 2012 (UTC) But we ain't talking about the UK, Northern Ireland is part of Great Britain as are England, Scotland and Wales, but Ireland is a country on its own, independent, with its own money and everything... claudevsq (talk) 10:24, 14 July 2012 (UTC) Once again, I repeat myself Northern Ireland is NOT part of Great Britain it is a part of the United Kingdom, hence it is called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The nationality of people from Northern Ireland is legally Irish, British or both as set out in the Belfast Agreement and recognised by both the Irish and British Government and the international community. Please make yourself aware of this if you wish to continue making those edits. In any event I have provided proof from sources that satisfy WP:RS that Magee is Irish. VerifiabilityHello Claude. I recently patrolled Diego Gabriel Chaves, a new article you created on July 22, 2012. I noticed the article was completely unreferenced. As you've stated on your user page, your level of English is "near-native". I would therefore suggest that if someone—such as myself, a native English speaker—comes along and tries to help out by improving the language used on an English-language article, it would be beneficial to the readers for those changes to be upheld. If you disagree, I'd be very interested to hear your reasons for that. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 01:16, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

The Rambling Man (talk) 16:34, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Interim/Regular/Super champion start datesYou are correct in that Shumenov's reign as WBA Super champion began on October 8, 2013. However, would it not be more logical to list his reign as beginning from the point at which he won the original Regular belt, on January 29, 2010? If people read the article and see that his reign began in 2013, they'll be missing the fact that he's actually been a WBA champion—regardless of Regular or Super—since 2010. Interim belts are even trickier. I have no idea how the dates for them should be addressed, or whether they count as 'real' championship reigns. Then again, more separate fields seems like overkill.. The reason I believe he as earned two Arrowhead Devices is due to the fact that he jumped into Panama with the 75th Ranger Regiment and again with the 75th in Afghanistan. His mission in Panama earned him the AFEM and his mission in Afghanistan earned him the ACM, of course. Although it is difficult to see, the best photograph I can find that leads me to verify this can be found on a U.S. Army photograph from BG Clarke's promotion ceremony. If you zoom in on LTG Votel's ribbon rack and look closely just under his lapel, I see an elongated antique bronze device on top of his AFEM that is too long to be a Campaign Star. As you noted, only one Arrowhead Device can be worn on a (singular) campaign, expedition, or service medal/ribbon regardless of the number of amphibious assaults, combat jumps, or helicopter assaults were made for a given campaign/operation. Like you, I have look at many photographs on Flickr and other websites to see if I can tell what devices he is wearing on his ribbons and this is the best view I have been able to find to try and verify the information I have found so far. Have you found a better photograph or official DoD biography that clearly illustrates the device LTG Votel has on his AFEM? Regards, --McChizzle (talk) 22:54, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

WP's article names him simply as Jesús Cuellar, so we should go with that instead of creating a pointless redirect. Regardless of BoxRec, mainstream media tends not to use his full name (Google results for "jesus cuellar" brings up much more results than "jesus marcelo andres cuellar"). Edit warring at List of current world boxing champions You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} .During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. The full report is at the edit warring noticeboard. This is a long-term war about using two vs. four names for the fighter Jesús Cuellar. You were offered a chance to avoid a block, but you continued to edit without responding to the offer. The article Jason M. Vanderhaden has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Madg2011 (talk) 18:34, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Next Pacific Air Forces Commander and Army Futures Command four-star commanderIt's possible that the next PACAF commander could be a three-star, although there is still no announcement. The NDAA 2017 did call for a reduction of service specific, four-star positions by December 31, 2022, but that is a ways off. Now something you might be interested in, is that the Army is standing up a new command called Army Futures Command which will have a four-star commander. The announcement can be found here and here. Ribbon and Award DeletionWhile I don't necessarily agree Chris Troutman because I find the ribbon rack to be helpful to those who don't know what the ribbons/rewards represent. Troxell's clearly shows the ribbons associated to the awards that he has earned. But that's the main problem when it comes to military bios, I find and in my experience in looking for reference sources, is that 80%-90% I only find one source and usually its from a U.S. government site. I do have to say that with how many "guidelines" there are in wiki, that Chris Troutman is technically justified in deleting the information and I mirror his encouragement for all contributors to continue to look for more verifiable sources so we can add the ribbons back to this. And and I know that is sucks when an admin deletes all or most of your hard work and then refer to guidelines we probably didn't know that exists. But in all truth, if we're not willing to put in the time and effort to reference what we post on wiki, then it probably shouldn't be there in the first place. Neovu79 (talk) 15:03, 6 May 2018 (UTC) Austin S. MillerHard to say about General Miller. He's had a long history with special operations. I would think he would be most suited for USSOCOM, but General Raymond A. Thomas still has at least a year in that position. Since his assignment has not been announced, my bet is that is has to be for an Army specific position that he's being appointed to. For the past 5-6 years, the Army has refused to announce any of their general officers that are being assigned to Army specific positions. The only time I've seen an Army general officer's assignment being announce is for joint assignments only, and that's because the DoD announces it, and not the Army. So if Miller were to be taking over for Thomas and USSOCOM commander, the DoD would have announced that. Miller's nomination was sent last Monday, so there is a chance we might get a position announcement today. If we don't hear anything by the end of the week, I think it's safe to assume that he's being nominated for an Army specific post. Neovu79 (talk) 16:17, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Admirals Michel and RogersI cannot tell what medal or what country that award you are referring to is from, for Admiral Michel. I have never seen it before. As for Admiral Rogers, I'm pretty sure he received the Defense Distinguished service medal when he retired, but I am not 100% certain, since it was not awarded to him during the change of command ceremony. LTG John M. MurrayI know with the Army's policy on nondisclosure of general officer assignments until the VERY last minute, but give me some credit in the research I do, LOL. I know you deleted the info in good faith, so, I'm not mad. If it was the reverse situation, I'd probably question it too, until I saw a more reliable source. Neovu79 (talk) 15:56, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
Lt Gen Maryanne Miller fourth star nominationThat is very interesting. Miller is a career reserve officer, and for a reserve officer be nominated for a fourth star extremely rare. There is only one known four-star position that follows a reserve officer pipeline and that's the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and currently General Lengyel still has two more years remaining and I haven't heard of him requesting for early retirement. U.S. Northern Command's deputy commander has been a reserve officer three-star since 2008 (also particularly from the National Guard), and there was once talk about making the commander of USNORTHCOM a four-star officer from the National Guard, but that never came to fruition. Even now, General O'Shaughnessy only assumed command of USNORTHCOM this past May, so that rules out that job going to Miller. Her career, staff positions and commands held, are pretty broad throughout her career, so I can't make heads or tails on what current-known four-star position she may be inheriting. My hunch is that they are opening up a new four-star position for her. I hope they announce something soon. It's killing my curiosity. Neovu79 (talk) 09:35, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
Just thought you would want to know, that on August 13, 2018, President Trump signed into law, the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019. It includes the re-establishment of the U.S. Space Command by the end of 2018. It will temporarily be a sub-unified combatant command under U.S. Strategic Command, who's commander will be a four-star general or flag officer, , until it can be separated as a full unified combatant command. I saw that you reverted my changes from Chantal Martínez to Chanttall Martinez. The only problem I have with that is, the name Chanttall Martinez is only used by BoxRec and it doesn't lead to any page. She is originally from Panama. And all the other Panamanian sources on her Wikipedia page use Chantal Martínez as her name, except for one American source which uses Shantal Martínez. Even her Wikipedia page is named Chantal Martínez. That is why I think that we should either use Chantal Martínez in the list of WBA female world champions or use Chanttall Martinez and redirect to Chantal Martínez. Sources from her personal Wikipedia page:
So, there are three names, Chantal Martínez, Chanttall Martinez, and Shantal Martínez. I think that we should use the Panamanian sources from her Wikipedia page as the correct spelling of her name, and also should use Chantal Martínez instead of Chanttall Martinez on the list of WBA female world champions. It was introduced in the November of 2018 and will replace the ASUs (Army Service Unifroms) as the Army's everyday professional working uniform. It is an omage to the Army's World War II and Korean War professional uniform. The service uniform was the brain-child of former Sergeant Major of the Army Daniel Dailey, and he started wearing the uniform during his travels ever since it was introduced. With the Army transitioning from a combat force, back to a professional force, they needed a new professional uniform, ever since they did way with the post-Korean War, Class-A's (Green Service Uniform). The first phase of the new uniforms rolled out this summer, with the Army completely replacing the ASUs by 2028. The ASUs will revert back to being only worn during ceremonies. This file is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work. While the file description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. — Ирука13 08:27, 1 January 2025 (UTC) |
