Can you please check on the page, User:Bonaparte returned his statistics when User:MBE left. Thanks. Antidote 20:56, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi, just to remind you that the Romanians statistics are still on there. You could as for a page protection if needed. Antidote 20:31, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorting template to head of categoryTo sort a template to the head of the category, but not affect the articles the template is on, you can do something like [[Category:Indigenous Australian language stubs<noinclude>| </noinclude>]]. That way the sorting part doesn't get included on the other pages. --Mairi 02:45, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Nueva GuineaHey, thanks. By the way, did you ever find those pictures of Port Blair that you took? --Khoikhoi 08:54, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Merging
Thanks for the question. You see, the GFDL requires that the edit history of each piece of content be preserved for attribution. Deleting the redirects would remove this edit history from public viewing, so it would seem as if the merger (myself in this case) wrote the content merged into Turkish folklore, which is plainly not the case. Making this history public and dropping a note on the talk page to indicate which articles were merged makes retrieving the page history much easier. Johnleemk | Talk 10:27, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
thanks from a fellow sydneysiderthanks for sending me the info about editing, etc. I have added a reference for some of the data in the Carpentier article. I'll see if I can find other references. Thanks for polishing the Carpentier article. You seem to have had a few facts at your fingertips and you have certainly given the article a professional touch. I will keep some of your techniques in mind in the future if I do any more work at Wikipedia. collywolly.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Collywolly (talk • contribs) 3 February 2006
Dutch explorers resourceHi, I'm not sure how to continue a thread, so I started a new one. You seem to be interested/knowledgable about Dutch Explorers in Oz. We recently posted a rare and valuable book by Heeres and I can't quite work out where it might be appropriate to put it. Maybe a new article is warranted. What do you think? If it is easier, my email is cjc@gutenberg.net.au Col --Collywolly 06:48, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
dutch surnamesHi again, I notice there is an entry for Willem Janszoon and one for Jan Carstensz (also known as Carstenszoon). Peter Reynders recently pointed out to me the problem with 17th century Dutch surnames. I don't want to go changing all the relevant names to add the 'oon' but if you read his article on [Dutch Surnames] you will get the drift and may want to think about how to deal with the issue. Th page for Abel Janszoon Tasman is titled correctly. --Collywolly 11:07, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Sydney Race RiotsDid you bother reading my objections on the talk page? I thought that its phrasing was POV and that it was irrelevant as the anglos who helped out on the Sunday had not been included. Licinius Licinius 12:16, 3 February 2006 (UTC) 12:16, 3 February 2006 (UTC) My bad, I misunderstood your editing sub-text. By the way there were many but they were for the most part ignored by the media who wanted to attack the Shire. I think there was a couple of references however, notably one in the Telegraph in the week following it. I will look it up. 12:36, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Licinius
de Carpentier imageHi, The Carpentier descendant sent me an image of Pieter de Carpentier for the article. I have reduced it to about 50kb and could make it smaller but it has his Carpentier's name and title on the bottom and that could not be read if it were too much smaller. It seems to be an old etching. How would I quote the source when uploading it when I don't know where it came from. I have asked the descendant but he is not likely to know the original source either. Col PS The descendant was gobsmacked at OUR work on de Carpentier. He said that we edited his words perfectly and was astounded at the number of cross references which were produced in the article. I enjoy doing this stuff and the PG work but receiving bouquets now and again is the icing on the cake. Thank YOU for your help while I am trying to come to grips with contributing to Wikipedia. As I have grown older I find that I don't want to keep climbing the slippery slope of the steep learning curve. You are making it easier to do so. I won't go on about references at PGofOz but another which complements Heeres is Collingridge's at http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks05/0501051h.HTML. He has copped a bit of flack for his tardy tratment of Janszoon's discovey but there is a lot of good stuff there. Another book I like, mainly for the intro, is Swinburne at http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/15337. She says of original source material: "The number of events described in a Source Book must necessarily be smaller than that in histories of another type; but the aim is to place the student in contact with the evidence of history in order that he may become his own historian by drawing his own deductions from the contemporary records. The greatest historian can find no materials ulterior to such as are here presented, for there is nothing ulterior to them but the deeds themselves. They are the records written by the men who gave their life and health to lay the foundation of Australia's greatness—by Phillip, weakening under the racking cares of the infant state; by Sturt in the scorching desert, as the last duty of an exhausting day. They are aglow with the heat of action; they are inspiring in their quiet modesty and strength." Have a nice day! --Collywolly 1:09, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Luis Vaez de TorresHi The entry for the above seems way off beam. Torres was in the strait in 1606. I don't know much about him but there is a bit about him in Collingridge's The First Discovery of Australia and New Guinea Chapter XII. I don't know how to fix the article. Can you help? Col Choat Collywolly 03:47, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Torres refsHi, Here is a reference to torres on my site: Torres Also stuff about him in Scott Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 I could make up something from the info I have there if you like. de Carpentier's descendant gave me some info and I uploaded the inmage and put it in the Pieter de Carpentier article. Naturally, you might edit it if it needs it. Col Collywolly 08:02, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Torres again!Hi, Scott's work also has something in chapter III about Torres (Cook's knowlede of the strait). I am going to make an article for him for the page on my site. Would you like me to pass it on to you, to work in with the current info at Wikipedia, or would you rahter work on the article yourself? There is also an article on Torres strait which probably needs to be considered along with the Torres page, particularly the historical section. Col Collywolly 09:47, 6 February 2006 (UTC) Torres once moreHi, My last word on Torres, I hope. I have made up my article at the PGofOz Torres page. My references are set out there as well. You can take what (if anything) that you want from it. I think I will give the Wikipedia stuff a miss for a while as I have other stuff that needs my attention.
