Reverted edit on MLS team order

Alphabetical order is alphabetical order regaredless of prefixes — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:4A5C:7600:5C3B:2C24:11FC:FDFE (talk) 00:28, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of soccer clubs in Canada

Hello Blaixx. Regarding this revert. If you look at Category:Lists of sports teams in Canada, the page List of soccer clubs in Canada does not appear, and hasn't since your revert. It's in Category:Lists of sports clubs in Canada, but not in Category:Lists of sports teams in Canada.

Now I should explain at the time of my edit, it was indeed already categorized in the teams category from a transclusion at Template:Canadian sports teams. However, after I added the explicit declarations for each of those articles, I removed the transclusion from the template here. Thus your subsequent revert uncategorized the article. --DB1729 (talk) 13:04, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Additional comments

To clarify the reason I had done the above: The articles from the template were not sorted correctly, and I was sure that when I looked at List of basketball teams in Canada, I thought I saw the correct default sort above the categories. I then assumed there was something wrong with the transclusion. Looking back on all this now, I must have been looking at List of baseball teams in Canada, the only article from the template that did have a default sort. So I should have just added the appropriate default sort to the other pages in the template...however, maybe it was best I did what I did...

Is there a good reason why we have the two categories here Category:Lists of sports teams in Canada and Category:Lists of sports clubs in Canada? If there is a good reason, then I guess in the end we got it right! After all, if List of soccer clubs in Canada belongs in the sports teams cat, then we should also include the curling clubs in the sports team cat. And then what would be the point of having the sports clubs cat at all?

If we keep them both, then is one a subcat of the other? (I'm not really sure, but I'm thinking no) Should their parent categories be the same? (I think yes) Should they at least have category see also links to each other? (again, I believe yes)

Any thoughts on these matters is appreciated. Thank you for your time. --DB1729 (talk) 14:24, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DB1729: Sorry for the overly hasty revert. At first glance I thought the exact same category was added twice. I have self-reverted for now.
Anyways, what a mess! Category:Sports teams in Canada and Category:Sports clubs in Canada are not separated very cleanly either. I think the intended difference is a sports club is something like an orginization or a facility that may have members that use the club for a variety of functions (e.g. Ottawa Curling Club). A sports team is more limited in scope and usually refers to a group that plays their sport against other sports teams (e.g. Toronto Raptors).
I think a lot of the confusion comes form the fact that in some sports (mostly ones with strong British influence), teams are called clubs. For example Toronto FC (Toronto Football Club) and other soccer clubs should obviously be sorted with other teams like the Toronto Raptors but the name kinda throws people off. BLAIXX 17:13, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I see your point. Also a factor could be in baseball in the U.S. the terms club and team are used almost interchangeably. I have added see also links to the four categories in question, here for example. As for how distinctly they should be separated, I will look more closely at that at some point later. If you have a good idea of what should and shouldn't populate the respective categories, I certainly wouldn't mind if you go ahead make any immediate changes you feel are needed to help clear things up.--DB1729 (talk) 22:56, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2020 Canadian Championship

Category:Association football events curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic says nothing about being only for events that ended abruptly because of the COVID-19 pandemic. 2020 Canadian Championship was curtailed because it was shortened due to the pandemic, so I believe it's an appropriate categorisation- unless there's some specific guideline that says this category is only for events that were ended early. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:15, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Joseph2302: See the parent category, Category:Sports events curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic for sorting guidelines. BLAIXX 22:21, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

League1 Ontario

Hello. I see that you edit the League1 Ontario wiki page. The logo that appears on the wiki page is old and needs to be updated

Would it be possible to email you the correct logo VPjr (talk) 17:02, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@VPjr, Julie.maheu, and RedPatch: The League1 Ontario Logo is not suitable for Wikimedia Commons because it is the copyright of L1O and cannot be freely used. The new logo should be uploaded here replacing the old one. BLAIXX 18:19, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

I see you are a big USl fan. The article for Central Valley Fuego FC is stuck in limbo because some banned admin was harshing the bloke who made it. Even if I made an account it would be a while before I could publish without an admin. The team has an athletic director, they are throwing street parties, but the article says they're not notable. Thought you might be interested. 216.234.220.172 (talk) 04:07, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article assistance

Hello Blaixx,

If I recall correctly, we were both recently involved in the discussion about Pacific FC's rivalries on the Pacific FC talk page. You may or may not remember that I mentioned later on that was creating an article about the rivalry between Cavalry FC and Pacific which is now nearing completion, and I was wondering if you would be able to take a look at the draft for me and maybe give me some feedback. Please let me know if you would be interested, I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Nelson Roy (talk) 23:33, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, do you have a Draft or sandbox page? BLAIXX 13:09, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Should be on my draftspace. Here's the link: User:Nelson Roy/Cavalry FC–Pacific FC rivalry. I think it may need a couple more citations in some places. I am also hoping to eventually switch the map to only encompass BC and Alberta. Thanks again, Nelson Roy (talk) 17:14, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I was also wondering if you could look over this one as well for me. I'm trying to make a page which lists important soccer rivalries in Canada. I tried to model it after the List of association football rivalries in the United Kingdom. Thanks, Nelson Roy (talk) 21:42, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Really? How so? --Whydoesitfeelsogood (talk) 04:40, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2022 CONCACAF Champions League - Top goalscorers

I saw you reverted my edit. It's odd. For some reason that same table looks weird when you look at it on mobile (I currently use an iPhone), so that's why I made the change. But I saw the change I made makes it look weird when you look at it on a desktop. Maybe something to bring to the attention to the tech people. — Flowerkiller1692 (talk) 04:27, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Flowerkiller1692 That is weird. I just made a change, can you tell me how it looks now? BLAIXX 13:16, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Works fine now. Flowerkiller1692 (talk) 16:30, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tiebreakers

Thanks for adding that official L1O rules sources. Strange that they aren't following it on the website. Given that they have been using +/- on the website all season, I just assumed that they had changed the tie-breaker rules to goal difference being the first one for this season. RedPatch (talk) 12:04, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@RedPatch You're welcome. The same thing happened last year with the CPL's table not matching their published rules for most of the year… BLAIXX 13:09, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

L1O promotion table

Hey - I saw you added a promotion table on L1O. I'm not sure if that format would work to have different weights for points in the same table, but I might be wrong. I added a version of mine, please take a look. If you think your format is better and allows for proper calculation, please revert my change, and we'll stick to yours. Thanks :) 14:56, 13 October 2022 (UTC) Cristane (talk) 14:56, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cristane I like what you've done showing points from both years. Feel free to experiment more on the draft – I don't own it! BLAIXX 01:00, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

LRT icon

You adjusted my LRT icon in the Hurontario LRT article, so I wondered if you know how to make it clickable to the Light rail article mainly for connection links in infoboxes. There's already a (boxy) icon leading to the Tram article, but I'd like one to be more specific. Transportfan70 (talk) 18:57, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I don't know if the infobox supports having a linkable logo. BLAIXX 19:07, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
They do: Transportfan70 (talk) 22:58, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, well you can do something like that with your icon or like this light rail with rint. BLAIXX 02:28, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Have you ever made rint links? This didn't work: Add→{{rail-interchange}} Transportfan70 (talk) 16:00, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to be able to use a new image like your LRTicon with rint, you'll have to add it to the template. The template is protected so you'd have to make an edit request on the talk page: Template talk:Rail-interchange. It's possible that your request would be denied by a template editor since there's already a similar generic icon. BLAIXX 16:39, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Provincial Flags in Canadian Championship (soccer)

Hello Blaixx,

I'm just wondering if this issue is because the use of the Quebec flag is a problem. On the US Open Cup, the teams are displayed with state flags to indicate where they are from so they can be archived for record keeping. I wasn't sure if this was why the pages were reverted. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.166.183.180 (talk) 23:25, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello anon! Generally speaking flags for states and provinces are not to be used unless directly applicable. For instance, Toronto FC is not "competing as" or "representing" Ontario in this competition so adding an Ontario flag next to their name is unnecessary decoration. I can't speak for the US Open Cup article but there was recently a (short) discussion at Talk:Canadian Championship#Flags where it was agreed that provincial flags do not belong here. Thanks, BLAIXX 02:21, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ontario Teams in USL after 2017

Greetings, You reverted my edit saying Thunder Bay was not one of the four teams given notice. The relevant source links to a site's who's news archive only goes back to 2017, but if you punch it into the wayback machine [1] Thunder Bay is one of the four listed in the 2015 notice. Gecko G (talk) 18:35, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, you are correct. I've restored your edit and updated the citation to include the archive URL. Thank you! BLAIXX 01:25, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Slovenian First League

The standard practice is to list the leagues in English, not in their native languages, as in the following examples: First Professional Football League (Bulgaria), Czech First League, Israeli Premier League, Slovak First Foootball League, Ukrainian Premier League, all of which are stronger performance-wise and reach a wider audience. There is no plausible reason to treat the Slovene league differently or to discuss. The digital content officer at the Slovenian FA refers to the league as Slovenian First League as well: At the moment, I’m working as a Digital Content Officer of the Football Association of Slovenia, the governing body of football in Slovenia. I oversee digital content creation and communication on FAs channels and Slovenian First League channels. [2] -esse quam videri - to be rather than to seem (talk) 00:40, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The standard practice (Wikipedia policy) is for article titles to be based on how reliable English-language sources refer to the article's subject (WP:CRITERIA). If you think that title should be "Slovenian First League", I encourage you to establish consensus by making your case at Talk:Slovenian PrvaLiga. Remember that the English-language sources should be secondary sources. What the NZS and league use is less relevant to the article title discussion. BLAIXX 22:03, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2023 Leagues Cup

Hello friend Blaixx. I have seen that you have reverted my edit in the 2023 Leagues Cup article, I accept that this is the appropriate way, as you mentioned in your description, however, unfortunately I did it this way since on the 2023 Leagues Cup final page (where the match template is edited) the user @SounderBruce does not allow the match template to be edited correctly, arguing that the state where the stadium is located must be entered, in this case Tennessee, to, according to him, better locate the city of Nashville because is not so well known, and, furthermore, when it is explained that in the soccer game template only the stadium and the city where it is located are placed, as shown in the other matches of the tournament and as it should be done, he continues editing and reverting the page arbitrarily and without consensus according to their personal position. And, finally, not satisfied with that, it still unacceptably reverts other editions that I made, such as on the 2024 Copa América page, just because it wanted to and without any valid justification. I'm contacting you to ask if you could help me edit or revert this user's edit on the 2023 Leagues Cup final page so that the Leagues Cup 2023 final match has the data placed correctly. I would do it but as I mentioned before he would not respect my work, and I hope that with your help he will at least desist from this behavior, and if for some reason this behavior continues, I would like you to help me report it so that a warning can be sent to your Wikipedia user. Greetings. 2806:2A0:1520:816A:0:0:0:9EDC (talk) 20:51, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
