Happy New Year!

Dear BOZ,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Thank you for the kind thoughts and for all your consistently excellent work through all these years. Last year was a hard one, both physically, thanks to medical ailments, and on Wikipedia, thanks to a plethora of Wikitrolls. Colleagues like you make staying here worthwhile. Here's to a better year to all!
--Tenebrae (talk) 22:38, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Glad to have you still around. :) BOZ (talk) 09:51, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Dear BOZ,
HAPPY NEW YEAR A belated message, but thank you so much for your well wishes at Christmas. You are a good role model for many Wikipedians and I wish there were more like yourself. Look forward to working with you in 2015. Asgardian (talk) 08:44, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks

Just saw this. Thanks... still wishing I had more time to actually do stuff around here, but, life happens, and in my spare time I've got some other projects going on. Not to mention one (soon, hopefully two) campaigns on the weekend. :) Hoping that all is well with you IRL and here in wiki-land. –Drilnoth (T/C) 05:56, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

I'm doing great, glad to hear you are too! BOZ (talk) 07:25, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Infobox photo discussion

Hi again. Happy New Year. Can you offer your opinion on which photo is better for the Infobox here? If you're not able to participate, just disregard this message; you don't have to message me. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 01:05, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for participating in the photo discussion. I really appreciate it. One thing: A new photo has been uploaded and added to the discussion. I hope I'm not bothering you by asking if you would mind indicating whether this changes your viewpoint, or whether it remains unchanged? Thank you very much. Nightscream (talk) 12:47, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Notifying you due to your prior participation in a merger discussion

Notifying you due to your prior participation in a merger discussion.

You previously participated in a merger discussion at Talk:She_Has_a_Name#Merger_proposal.

There are now two (2) ongoing deletion discussions related to that, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2012 tour of She Has a Name and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Critical response to She Has a Name.

Damion Scott Infobox photo discussion

Hi. Damion Scott has taken issue with the photo in his article. He previously demanded that I replace it with one that I thought inferior to the one already in the Infobox, and has now replaced with a third one of his own. In the interest of WP:CONSENSUS, can you offer your opinion on this? Thanks again. Nightscream (talk) 19:25, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Possible return of banned editor

I have a non-WP:VG related issue I need an admin's help with. I have been dealing with two IP editors at Charles Whitman. At least one may be a previously banned editor. I believe this based on

  • Similarly antagonistic language with characteristic wording tics at both the article's Talk page and my own
  • Similar focus on aspects of the subject the article discusses (the 1966 University of Texas sniper shootings)), in particular the incident's connection with the subsequent formation of SWAT teams in police forces around the US, and whether the shooter's behavior can be described as living up to to a "sniper's code".
  • A private email from another editor who previously dealt with him who believes that it is the same person, and advised me to request admin assistance

Representative discussions:

(Really, that whole page and, apparently, previous ones too; I first got involved in 2013)

  • User_Talk:Pinkadelica/Archive 7#WP:OUTING and the next section (harrassment of another editor. Note that he identifies himself; he did so to me as well by linking to his IndieGogo project in my Talk page, although it no longer exists.)

Despite being advised to do so by the aforementioned editor I am unsure as to whether to file at WP:SPI, and would appreciate uninvolved eyes to look over the evidence. Ylee (talk) 01:40, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

SPI won't do a checkuser for IP editors, although they often block anyway for WP:DUCK cases and any other obvious abuse. Reviewing the case, it looks like they gave you and Pinkadelica some real trouble a couple of years ago. Bad pennies do tend to keep turning up. In the 2010 AN/I thread, Jimbo Wales himself states that "I recommend that people not waste too much time on this. Revert, block, ignore. This nonsense has been going on for years, and I think it will continue for years. Known problem user." If this is connected to the past case like you believe it is, and it seems you are likely right, you can take your above evidence to SPI and that way there is further documentation of continued abuse. If you're concerned that SPI may not be of help, AN/I should accomplish the same purpose and get more eyes on it, although that may allow the IP user to platform a bit in the meantime (which might not be a bad thing, per WP:ROPE). Closing an RfC

Hi, BOZ. I hate to bother you with an admin request, but there is a huge backlog at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Requests for closure.

There's an RfC that seems to have run its course, with just two editors, myself and another, who are still commenting and repeating the same points over and over. The RfC is so unwieldy it's almost funny. Do you suppose it might be possible you or another admin whom you could ask could take a look at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television#Request for Comment (and it's understandable if you wouldn't want to read every single word) or at least the more digestible Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television#Section break with question and possibly close it?

Thanks for any help. It's been really time-consuming for multiple editors — for which we have no one to blame but ourselves, but still...! With regards, Tenebrae (talk) 20:43, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Oh wow, man... I would love to help out, but to be fair to all the participants a closer really does need to read everything. I don't see how I would find the time for that any tmie soon. BOZ (talk) 21:03, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
Okey-doke. I appreciate you giving it a look and responding. --Tenebrae (talk) 22:41, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

As far as I can see, neither Adventure Y, Adventure Z nor Sword Coast Legends have articles, too. And there is an article about Lords of Waterdeep. -- Qafgbxvghnx (talk) 23:13, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Qafgbxvghnx, generally we want to avoid including redlinks on templates like that. And the Lords of Waterdeep page you linked to is about a board game, not a video game. BOZ (talk) 23:51, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
Dungeons & Dragons Computer Labyrinth Game isn't a video game, but a electronic hybrid board game. So it seemed okay to me to link to a board game article, as the video game adaption is mentioned in there and stays true to the original game and its rules. -- Qafgbxvghnx (talk) 23:58, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough - I added Lords of Waterdeep back. If you want to start articles about the other games, it would be reasonable to add them back to the template after you create the articles. BOZ (talk) 01:49, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Trying to understand why you changed it back after I've provided references from the actual comic and marvel.com showing that Rob wrote the issue Deadpool premiered in? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Terrysharcque (talkcontribs) 17:14, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

You provided absolutely no citations in the article in this edit, and have not discussed the issue on the article talk page. If you edit war instead of providing citations, an admin can temporarily protect the page. BOZ (talk) 21:27, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Gotcha....and done. Please review my addition to the Deadpool talk page. Thanks!

Terrysharcque (talk) 13:18, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello

Hello BOZ. I've provided images for the articles you listed on my talk page. Do you have any comment on this edit at Dragon Magazine Archive? FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 22:52, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Hmm, I think that one has potential to stand on its own, but it would be better if we had another source to include with the Pyramid source to better establish its notability. It is fine for now as a section. If you want to merge the infobox into Dragon (magazine) as well, that might be nice. Let me know if you disagree. BOZ (talk) 23:41, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Dark Sun

Hello BOZ. I've recently taken over the Dark Sun pages. I'm looking for a little help getting it up to snuff. Can you have a look at the Dark Sun page and give me some pointers? I'm aware it needs more secondary sources and I'm working on that. What I need help with is figuring out the level of detail appropriate for this type of page. If you could point me to some examples of similar pages that show level of details I can go from there. Thanks! Sugarcoma (talk) 15:58, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Sugarcoma! First of all, keep in mind that you don't "take over" pages on Wikipedia - all of our articles are collaborative works-in-progress, so we all should try to work together to improve them.  :) Secondary sources are the name of the game; in fact, as many of those as we can have, and the fewer primary sources, the better. The goal should be to eventually replace as much primary-sourced text with secondary-sourced text as possible. But, like I say, it is a work-in-progress. As far as how to improve the Dark Sun page, you could use Eberron, Spelljammer, and Planescape as examples for starters on how much in-universe material we need there; I think ideally, we would want maybe 40-60% of the article (arbitrarily) to be development and reception information, and only as brief of an overview of the in-universe setting information as necessary to give the reader a sense of what goes on. You are definitely moving in that direction by building the World of Dark Sun and other pages. Ultimately, we want the Dark Sun page to look more like the Good Article level articles Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms, although that will take a lot of work. Take it in small steps in the meantime. BOZ (talk) 19:36, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
My apologies. I misspoke. By "take over" I meant I started working after it languished unloved for sometime. Bad choice of words. I've been kicking around here for a while so I know how things go here. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at those other setting pages and use them as examples. Sugarcoma (talk) 19:58, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Novels

Hello BOZ. If you could give me a list of Dungeons & Dragons novels whose articles require images, I would happily do them. I've done a few already. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 03:29, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! Looks like you got the ones I most recently worked on. I haven't started the list yet, but I will try to get some work done on that today. I appreciate your enthusiasm. :) BOZ (talk) 13:15, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks and alerts

Thanks for the feedback on my Pathfinder edits. I can't promise I'll be dedicating a lot of time to adding Designers & Dragons refs to other RPG entries, but we'll see! (Dang handy book, isn't it?)

Also, I wanted to alert you that Tiefling and (indirectly) Dragonborn (Dungeons & Dragons) are having their notability questioned. It would be a shame to see two of the core races for the game across the last two editions merged into obscurity or removed. As such, it would be nice to have a veteran editor of D&D articles weigh in on the matter, if you have the time. (And maybe provide some secondary sources you're aware of?) JEB215 (talk) 04:10, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, JEB215. Mostly, I try to ignore the hot air of editors with nothing better to do than tell other people what to do. Finding some decent secondary sources (like Designers & Dragons) is a big key to taking the wind out of their sails. I find that arguing with certain people only seems to give them more ammunition, so it is better to go and do something positive rather than try to reason with them. BOZ (talk) 04:12, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Damaged talk page

Hi BOZ, the talk page at List of Dungeons & Dragons deities has an error on it; the references to the mergers for Luthic and Berronar Truesilver are both there, indicating that the merges have not been completed. They were done ages ago but User:ChrisGualtieri merged them to different (more appropriate) targets. I don't know how to fix them so I thought I'd call this to your attention.Vulcan's Forge (talk) 22:17, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Hmm. I honestly don't know how you fix that. Could it be that the templates on the talk page show that way because the redirects point elsewhere? BOZ (talk) 11:27, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Draft pages

Sure thing. Always glad to help. I'll swing by when I've time than to do more on Wiki than juts a few quick hits for vandalism and plot bloat and the like, as I've done for the last few minutes during my coffee break! --Tenebrae (talk) 18:06, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Always glad to help — and especially glad to help an old colleague and great editor with whom I've worked for many years. Keep fighting the good fight, my friend! --Tenebrae (talk) 13:50, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Greetings, I think you accidentally template protected the Gamora article. It should have been a full protection, I think. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:59, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Jo-Jo Eumerus, thanks for letting me know. I saw the "allow admins and template editors" and I thought that might be a good idea, but perhaps I was not choosing the best option? Let me know the difference between the two. BOZ (talk) 21:02, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
I think full protection is the standard for protections in article space when one is trying to stop an edit war involving autoconfirmed editors by protection. Template protection is more for template space, although it probably does not make much of a difference. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:05, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Gotcha. Just to avoid any confusion, I will switch it to full protection. Thanks! BOZ (talk) 21:11, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Article redirects

Hello, BOZ. As you probably know, several articles about Forgotten Realms novels have recently been turned into redirects. There is an ongoing discussion about this at the Dungeons & Dragons wiki-project; I would appreciate it if you could comment there. I'm really not sure that I want to continue providing pictures for articles until some agreement is reached about which articles are about notable books. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 09:20, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Fair enough. I don't know if I can add much to the discussion, but I will help to locate sources if I can. BOZ (talk) 11:20, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Drafts

Hi BOZ,

I haven't forgotten about helping you out with the two drafts which you sent me. I've been trying to wrap up a project of my own so hopefully I can get to Beth Sotelo and David Morgan-Mar by this Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Hope all is well. Mtminchi08 (talk) 03:35, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

No worries, I appreciate you thinking about it. :) BOZ (talk) 11:19, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Help closing a RfC

Hi, BOZ. Hope you're well. I was wondering if you could help with something. A bot keeps removing the code on an RfC that's more than 30 days old, even though no admin has closed the RfC. So I'm concerned that with the coding gone it's been taken off the list of active RfCs and so no one will ever come by to close it. I've found that posting a request for closure on an admin noticeboard is very hit or miss as to whether anyone notices. May I ask that that you might close it, or, since we've longtime colleagues and I don't want anyone thinking this is anything other than a neutral request, perhaps you could ask another admin to close it? It's at Talk:Brian Austin Green#RfC: Names and DOB's of children in a BLP. With thanks, Tenebrae (talk) 22:49, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for asking, Tenebrae. To be on the safe side, I will take your request to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Requests for closure. Not that this means someone else can't close it before someone gets to the request. BOZ (talk) 00:36, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
Hi BOZ, I am an editor closer. I noticed your post on the WP:ANRFC page. Legobot removed the header after 30 days have past, its automatic. Thats when RFC's usually have had time for most concerned editors to comment. That doesnt mean the RFC is forgotten. Sometimes people request a close on the ANRFC page like you have, and other times Cunard lists those that other editors have not listed. Just a little fyi. AlbinoFerret 00:45, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
OK, thanks. :) BOZ (talk) 13:25, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

native americans in genocide article assistance requested.

Hi Boz, seems someone or some bot has removed a event from the table at List_of_genocides_by_death_toll of the Native American genocide or just broke it. it is beyond my ability to repair and reverting back to Sept, 11, 2015 would probably ruin lots of other people's work. I find the dates of all the edits involved a bit, suspicious to say the least. Anything you can do to help bring back and bring up to Wiki standards the information from 16:45, September 11, 2015‎ that added it. I think there is a citation on the talk page for the article, as well as every middle school history textbook in the US public school system that could be used for citations if any are required. Thanks shadzar-talk 09:45, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

I don't have a lot of experience working with tables. Do you have a sandbox you could work on it? Maybe just copy the table from the old edit, and start with that? BOZ (talk) 14:24, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
The last time I tried to edit a table before the changes to syntax, I broke the D&D editions table trying to color code something that was left out and either had to not save my change or revert my edit because I just couldn't figure out wiki tables. I fear I would do more damage to the page to try to add it. Anyone else you know of that is proficient with wiki tables? (give me HTML and I will make the table do a Hula while singing you its data, just wiki tables ugggh!) shadzar-talk 07:41, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Not sure. Torchiest? BOZ (talk) 11:20, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
I saw this a few days ago but didn't see anything obviously wrong. Where's the broken part exactly? —Torchiest talkedits 15:49, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
The table isn't currently broken. If it were to be reverted back to the 16:45 Sept 11 edit, the months of work since would be lost. Why that section on Native Americans was removed is the question as it was done by what looks like a bot. I just don't know how to add all that back to a table like this. here is the part on the "American Holocaost" that was removed. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_genocides_by_death_toll&diff=prev&oldid=680593855 shadzar-talk 12:25, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

I have no particular opinion about the content issues. My concern is your behavior, that it was both inappropriate and unacceptable. You, or whatever other IPs or usernames you have been using to push your agenda, appear to have been warned about edit-warring multiple times already. If you would like to register a complaint, I invite you to make a case at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. BOZ (talk) 22:40, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
i resent you're asserting i'm attempting to "push an agenda." i am interested in the proper channels by which administrator influences can be invited. these other editors are abusing it simply to be as intransigent and deconstructive as they possibly can. and i feel there's a community standard that favors accusations due to the hassle of fully investigating a given situation. point of fact, you removed a whole section and made no opinions on doing it. 166.175.60.148 (talk) 16:55, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Merry Belated Christmas

Just happened to log in today to fix an error and I saw your Christmas message. Thanks! I hope all's well on-wiki. Just have so much else going on in life these days I'm afraid I've not the time to aid further despite my desire to do so. Not when there is Adventuring (and one of those "Full-Time Job" things) to be done!

Best of luck in your current and future endeavours. –Drilnoth (T/C) 15:11, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Things are reasonably well on-wiki, Drilnoth! FDF has been gone 2 years, TTN has been gone for one year, and TRPOD seems to be on some kind of Christmas vacation, so all that helps.  ;) I have gotten myself involved in other hobbies so I slowed up here pretty seriously, but I did get my hands on some new sources recently that I have been adding here and there from time to time. :)
Life is a roller coaster ride, though. LOL My Christmas was pretty good, so I will take it from there. ;) Hope all is well with you too! BOZ (talk) 17:40, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Happy New Year, BOZ!

Thanks Tenebrae, you too!  :) BOZ (talk) 20:55, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

Happy New Year!
Hello BOZ:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.

Could you check something for me?

Hi, BOZ. Happy New Year. I hate to bother you with something mundane, but I think I somehow might have placed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/North Texas Film Critics Association in the wrong place: It's dated December 20 yet I can't seem to find it in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2015 December 20.

Qhat I might have done wrong? I placed the AfD tag at North Texas Film Critics Association and created the discussion through the link in the template message. Yet since it's been well over seven days, I'm wondering if I got the AfD lost somehow. No rush, of course — it's a holiday weekend, after all. But I was online so I figured it'd be worth asking as long as I'm here. With best wishes, --Tenebrae (talk) 22:36, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Tenebrae, the AFD page doesn't have the usual template on it, so would that have put it into the right categories and transclusions? I have never started an AFD before so I don't know. BOZ (talk) 00:15, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
I see now what I did wrong — in addition to putting the tag on the page, I have to put it on that day's deletion log manually. I'll restart the process fresh. Thanks for dialoging with me — if you hadn't, I wouldn't have thought to check the directions again! --Tenebrae (talk) 00:19, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

A page you started (Phaulkon) has been reviewed!

Thanks for creating Phaulkon, BOZ!

Wikipedia editor Maestroso simplo just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Quick note about the references - they are all wikipedia articles, which is okay but it would be better if the references were outside of wikipedia (see WP:CIRCULAR). The entries in the Additional Reading section would be perfect for this!

Dragon review page and reference library

Hi! Do you mind if we relocate User:BOZ/Dragon video game reviews to Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library/Dragon? This would allow the subpage search feature to index this magazine as well. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 15:19, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Hellknowz, I don't mind if you use it at all!  :) But would you mind doing a copy/paste instead so that you can rewrite or format it any way you like? I'm glad you find it useful! BOZ (talk) 16:18, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
Alright, I'll make a copy and linkback to the original page. I do hope to expand it with missing items (if any, I haven't looked carefully). Thanks. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 16:46, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
Hellknowz, I'm quite certain there was a "Silycon Sorcery" column that I have not recorded properly at all. I have it noted for Majesty, but I haven't researched to see how extensive the column was. BOZ (talk) 20:56, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
How did you compile the current list of games - did you simply go through the columns? Are the listed columns complete? —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 21:21, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
Yep, one by one, it took many hours.  ;) At the time I had an archive collection on CD of up through issue #250. Unfortunately, I don't have that anymore at this time, but I hope to get it back soon. BOZ (talk) 22:44, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Non-constructive edits and reverts of multiple editors by IP editors

Hi. Can you assist with an IP editor using multiple IP accounts to make repeated non-constructive edits, who reverts both my reverts and Tenebrae's? The articles are Jupiter's Legacy, List of Jupiter's Legacy story arcs and List of Saga story arcs, and these three links are the three most recent reverts.

I and others have attempted to explain the various policies, guidelines, etc. to this editor that are violated by them in our edit summaries when more than one of us have reverted his/her edits, and in the messages I have left on the talk pages of the various IP accounts he/she is using (86.155.179.11, 109.155.200.50, 86.135.160.106, 109.155.147.13, 109.155.133.16). I notice that in at least one case, 86.155.179.11, another editor has also left a message for similar behavior regarding other articles as well.

Two points to note:

Can you block these accounts and protect those articles? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 19:59, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Fair enough, I will protect the articles for one week. They can use the talk page rather than edit-warring. Since the user appears to have no problem switching IPs, it may not help to block the addresses. If they resume this behavior after the protection expires, let me know and I will take this to AN/I or wherever is better, to get more eyes on the situation. BOZ (talk) 01:44, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Also.....
BOZ, the editor has returned to his/her disruptive edits. Please help. Nightscream (talk) 13:17, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Brianna Hildebrand article

I was surprised that there was no article for actress Brianna Hildebrand, who plays one of the X-Men in the film Deadpool, when I tried to create it, I saw that it had twice been created and then deleted. The rationale for the first deletion was "actor pages should never redirect to a film page given that they act in multiple roles in different movies, not just one", and no rationale was given for the second, even though there were six reliable, secondary sources for multiple roles of hers. I think she's going to get more roles after Deadpool, and tweaked the draft of that article, creating the version that is here. Can you recreate it? Do you agree she is notable? I think so. Let me know. Thanks again. Nightscream (talk) 20:58, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

If you think Draft:Brianna Hildebrand is ready to go, I can move it into main space. I would even restore the prior edit history if you want to see if there is anything useful there. BOZ (talk) 01:28, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Can you restore the version I worked on? Nightscream (talk) 05:47, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Sure, I copied and pasted that one over the current draft, which was not much different. BOZ (talk) 06:31, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello there.

I came across your draft at the Abandoned Drafts. I can offer my help on tracking down some references. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 01:04, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

MrLinkinPark333 would you please? I appreciate the offer! And after that, anything at User:BOZ/Draft pages that catches you eye? BOZ (talk) 06:41, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
@BOZ: Sure. I remember helping you locate sources for Draft:David Morgan-Mar at the Resource Exchange. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:44, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
MrLinkinPark333, yes I remember now! Thanks, anything you can do would be great. BOZ (talk) 23:05, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Input requested

There is a dispute at Talk:Spider-Man and the X-Men over whether a redlink editor's edits violate WikiProject Comics guidelines as fancruft and issue-by-issue synopses. A comparison of two versions is here. I am writing to some longtime Project editors individually, since Portal talk:Comics appears to have very little traffic and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics/Notice board has had no postings in years. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:33, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

wargames foundry

hi BOZ, I know you've already commented, but I was hoping you might have access to sources on this company. I'm guessing back in the day there would have been coverage in the General or some such. I assume you already thought about it, but I know you've had access to sources like that in the past... Thanks, Hobit (talk) 17:14, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

I wish I did have some stuff like that!  :) I checked Designers & Dragons to see if it was mentioned under Games Workshop, but did not see it there. BOZ (talk) 22:15, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for checking! Hobit (talk) 01:49, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

As you may or may not have noticed, I've been going through old AFDs and doing follow-ups on the articles involved. This article, Kimber Sissons, was deleted at the time, but I found this pretty comprehensive profile and I'm thinking she'd meet WP:GNG at this point. The admin that did the delete has been MIA for almost a year, and before that only had a couple dozen edits in the past few years, so I don't think they'll be answering any queries. I don't feel like writing the article from scratch, but I'd be interested in seeing what state its in and adding this new source. Think you could restore it? Thanks. —Torchiest talkedits 02:16, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Torchiest, I restored the article and moved it to Draft:Kimber Sissons. Have at it!  :) BOZ (talk) 05:27, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
Torchiest, if you're ever interested in picking back up on this one, let me know so I can restore it for you. BOZ (talk) 15:00, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Hey there! I didn't realize you were the creator of that page. Didn't mean to step on your toes. I'm just super hyped about the upcoming video game and was going to try and work on its article. :) —Torchiest talkedits 14:53, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

LOL, no worries. BOZ (talk) 21:52, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
Hey, can you complete the move of the video game to the main article? The person who closed that discussion wasn't an admin, and it seemed like there was consensus for the full double move. Thanks. —Torchiest talkedits 15:57, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Hmm, that might be premature. The current article is very stubby and has only two sources. I think another RM specifically for that issue should settle the matter solidly. BOZ (talk) 21:48, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Okay. *cracking knuckles* —Torchiest talkedits 22:57, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Fictional Entity Deletions

As noted above in your talk page, there is another round of fictional entity deletions ongoing. Some of these are D&D related and don't appear to be showing up on the project page announcements. Is there a bot which does that or is it just a manual effort?

Also: while looking at some of the current deletions I noted that an IP6 address (or series of them which are probably the same person/people) has gone about and reverted a lot of the merges which were agreed at AFD in 2013. I've reverted these where I could find them - on the grounds that the merges were agreed in formal discussion and in almost all cases the IP address made little or no changes to the restored article. It's hard enough keeping legitimately notable articles in the D&D on wiki without having to deal with deletionists whose ire is raised because of undiscussed restores.Vulcan's Forge (talk) 20:37, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) There are two pages I keep watchlisted to stay on top of these events: Wikipedia:WikiProject Role-playing games/Article alerts and Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/Article alerts. Those get populated by a bot automatically as long as the project has a banner on the article's talk page. If you compare the two pages, you can see WP:RPG has a lot more listed than WP:D&D does. I saw that three of the entries didn't have the D&D banner on their talk pages, so I added it. They should show up in the announcements area next time the bot updates. —Torchiest talkedits 21:06, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for checking up on that, guys. I watch those watchlists as well, so I can usually reply to discussions in a timely manner.  :) BOZ (talk) 21:39, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

I just closed the AfD for Sekolah [[1]] as a merge. I know nothing about D&D, so I would defer to you for doing the merger in a proper manner. Thank you. And Adoil Descended (talk) 14:00, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

FYI, I had this userified for sourcing improvement. If you're able to help me add the RS'es you found in the AfD discussion, this should be a reasonably easy fix. Thanks, Jclemens (talk) 22:37, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, Jclemens. I did add the one decent source I found from all the links I posted in the AFD. Of course, I only looked up the characters under the "Original Campaign" section, which accounts for probably less than 10% of the characters in the list, so there are likely more to be found. If you want to give me a hand, I would be happy to work on this some more (but not this weekend, definitely busy). BOZ (talk) 02:15, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
No rush, my available time will be rather limited as well. Jclemens (talk) 05:35, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
OK Jclemens, a few weeks later, and I have some time to kill, so I'm going to look a bit more to see what I can find at the search engine for VGs. BOZ (talk) 01:49, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
OK, I went through all the NWN 1 characters and found a couple more sources. I will try to find some time to go through all the NWN 2 characters when I find some time. BOZ (talk) 02:35, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Request for RfC closure

Hi, Boz. I hate to ask, but there is a backlog going back to March 14 at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Requests for closure, and in this instance an admin knowledgable about comics would be appropriate anyway. Would you consider closing the now month-long RfC at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Comics#Request for Comment: Quotes and italics? Thank you for any help. With regards, as always, --Tenebrae (talk) 23:49, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

I'm out of town and not properly available for at least the next 24 hours or so, but if I can find the time (and remember) to take a look at it, I will see what I can do. No promises at all though. BOZ (talk) 12:45, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
I appreciate it, BOZ. I won't say anything to influence you one way or the other. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:29, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
There's a lot going on there... I don't know if I'm the best person to make a judgment call. :( BOZ (talk) 01:18, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
Well, I was asking a favor because of the months-long backup at the RfC closure page, so I can't fault someone for not feeling up to it. I understand. I do think that now I can say, since you're staying away, that I don't believe there's much of a judgment call when eight editors agree on a consensus and basically two do not — one of whom has rejected, by hurling insults, two offers of a compromise. Ah, well. I'll try the RfC closure page, which could take two months for a response. Thank you anyway. I mean that. With regards, --Tenebrae (talk) 05:23, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Claude J. Pelletier

Hello! As you requested, I have userfied the article Claude J. Pelletier for you to work on. The draft is at User:BOZ/Claude J. Pelletier. As I said at the AfD, if you find you are not able to create an article that meets notability criteria, I suggest you convert the draft into a redirect to Protoculture Addicts. --MelanieN (talk) 23:35, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Julia Carpenter

My apologies about the Julia Carpenter situation. I tried to discuss the matter on the anon's Talk Page, but the user flat-out refused discussion [2] and opted to edit war. If the user continues edit warring on the Ben Reilly article, I'm just going to report them instead of reverting it again. The user has been warned. DarkKnight2149 22:19, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, BOZ. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Requested move

BOZ, can you move Thermal imaging camera (firefighting) back to Thermal imaging camera. I'll note the hatnote on the article already points to Thermographic camera, but now that that article has been moved, my article is PRIMARYTOPIC at that name again... Cheers, Jclemens (talk) 00:21, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

No problem, Jclemens. If the move proves to be controversial, you or another user can open a talk page discussion to move it back or to another title. BOZ (talk) 02:04, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
It shouldn't be, as article with appropriate hatnote trumps redirect every time... :-) Thanks! Jclemens (talk) 02:13, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

Did you see this?!

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons#Ilustrations and specifically File:DnD Basilisk.png? With a professional graphic designer interested in working with D&D monsters, we stand a good chance of progressively getting rid of the fair use scans from old TSR books. I gave her a barnstar, but that appears to be pathetically inadequate... Jclemens (talk) 22:07, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Cool, I'm taking a look now. BOZ (talk) 22:09, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi BOZ.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, BOZ. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process.
