Victory SC

Hello Alex, since I saw on Wikidata that you had deleted the enwiki link to Victory SC, I came over here to have a look for the reason why. As it was a WP:G6, I was expecting to find the new article name somewhere, but can't. Presumably it's lost somewhere between there and Victory SC (Haiti). When you fix it, would you mind re-adding it to d:Q7927548? Many thanks. Jared Preston (talk) 15:10, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Somebody requested G6 for a rename for the Haiti club. I'm at work with little time to study and do redirects. The G6 request was legit so it was done earlier. -- Alexf(talk) 15:19, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
But there's nothing to merge to since there is no history at Victory SC (Haiti) to merge from. Jared Preston (talk) 15:21, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

You shouldn't. You seem very interested in writing about yourself. You have been told a few times (and even blocked once already for disregarding), on why autobiographies are frowned upon and never a good idea. Please read the linked page in detail to understand why and also understand that an article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Please don't forget to sign your posts in talk pages. -- Alexf(talk) 18:09, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Deep Ocean Minerals

Dear Alex

I was talking in the editors room about my article and during this chat was advised the article was not deleted as such. I explained that I had been given permission to use a word document as the basis of the article - and some of this word document was used in a printed online article. So there was some confusion. He explained that a form needed to be filled out by the author of the article which has been done (see below). However I now come back to the link that was provided and found that you have deleted the whole thing. Can you please advise of next steps give the copyright permission from the person who provided me with the key information:

I hereby affirm that I, Anthony Philip JACOBS, am the creator and hold the original Word Documents of the exclusive copyright of http://www.harnisch.com/uploads/tx_harnisch/wfe_0314minerals_and_trace_elements.pdf I have provided the Wikipedia Author, Thaiso, permission to use this material for a Wikipedia article on Deep Ocean Minerals. I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the content may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project. Your help is much appreciated. There seems to be so many people in this process it's very confusing. Cheers Sharon — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thaiso (talkcontribs) 03:15, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

I am not the deleting admin. @Diannaa: is the one. It was deleted on 30 January for copyright violation of a published article by Anthony P. Jacobs and Kevin HU, Pacific Deep Ocean Biotech Ltd, but you say your name is Sharon. All I deleted was a redirect to a non-existent page. As for wanting to donate, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. This is the wrong page to be talking about this. Also, whenever you write in Wikipedia, please follow the rules. Always link to the article in question (as asked at the top of this edit page): The article was: Draft:Deep Ocean Minerals, and please sign your posts in Talk pages. -- Alexf(talk) 10:35, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Edyta Nawrocka

In my opinion the artist's portfolio is the most important thing. Why all tables with songs, releases, compilations and videos were deleted on Edyta Nawrocka?

Teodora Teodorovic

Mr Alex, You have recently deleted an autobiography "Теодора Теодоровић" saying she is not notable enough, while I thinks she meets all of your criteria. Can you explain to me exactly why did you delete the topic? Uros Bojanic (talk) 17:00, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

You are missing the requested link to the article. If you want to get answers you should at least follow the simple directions at top and provide links (clearly requested as #1 on the list). Searching (there are lots of deletions), I see this was an article about a person which did not clearly assert notability (I did not say "she is not notable enough", and this was also clearly explained in the summary and the posted speedy deletion notice). Furthermore you say it was an autobiography? That is seriously frowned upon. Lastly, it was not written in English and this is the English language Wikipedia. If this is your first article, you might want to read this page. You seem to have used the AfC wizard but did not follow through and posted directly to mainspace, even though you read the clear notice at the bottom of the article that said: "STOP! Be warned that by using this process instead of Articles for Creation, this article is subject to scrutiny. As an article in "mainspace", it will be DELETED if there are problems, not just declined." -- Alexf(talk) 17:21, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Block of User:Dzatplan

Hi I see you have blocked User:Dzatplan in 2014 because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. I myself was blockd indefinitely in 2012 for the same wiki-crime, but fortunately for me some other editors stepped in to help. It is only 3 years later that I finally have the guts to start asking questions.

I would appreciate knowing why ’Dzatplan' is considered a promotional name. Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 20:52, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

He had link to a page that had a note promoting that name. Maybe right, maybe wrong. If you want unblock, you need to go through channels as explained in that page. -- Alexf(talk) 01:12, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Page deleted DVA (Band)

Hello Alex, you deleted the page DVA (band) on October 23rd 2014 because it was "A7: Article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject". I am new to Wikipedia and I am trying to determine if the band would meet the notability requirement. They have been featured in PopMatters [1] and Allmusic [2]. They are from the Czech Republic and have a Wikipedia page in Czech [3]. Do you think this band would be suitable for inclusion in the English Wikipedia? Thanks Hedd0026 (talk) 17:56, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

The article had no sources whatsoever. In order to understand notability issues please read WP:BAND. -- Alexf(talk) 01:09, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

IP and account unfairly blocked

Alex, you have blocked the account jrf-web-team and the entire IP related to it. Please have a look at my talk page for the full information, but I would like you to re-examine it and reconsider.

The facts are that the jrf-web-team account was created to ensure that information other people added to the page (not, I believe, created by the account) for the Charity is accurate. Edits by the account have included correcting (not adding) the birthday of the CEO, and correcting inaccurate info. Case in point is the issue that has brought this to my attention: the inclusion on the page of a defamatory comment. Originally made in the press, the newspapers involved retracted the mistake they made (in confusing one organisation with another) the same day. However, the link on the page remained and because of your block it was not possible to remove it using the jrf-web-team account or any other on that IP. I understand that the name may have suggested it's use as being for promotion, but if you take a look at the edit history you'll see that it's not the case. This is a research charity looking at the causes of poverty. It doesn't do self-promotion. Hence the block is in error. The user name can be changed, and can tick the box of making edits to other relevant pages (relating to the work of other poverty charities and organisations) but to protect the page from deliberate or accidental but defamatory comments, I really need you to reconsider and unblock the IP.

If there is another cause for the block, perhaps you could explain on my wall (or here). Guy.shrimpton (talk) 09:34, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Do you mean User talk:Jrf-web-team? You did not put a link as requested so I have to guess. If that is the account you are talking about, it is currently not blocked. As you can see, a request for unblock was made and it was granted provided a name-change is requested immediately. The name of the account is in violation of the username policy and was no "unfairly blocked". If that is not the account you are referring to, please provide a link. -- Alexf(talk) 09:40, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Alex, that is the correct account (isn't that what I called it?), and if that's the case then that's a recent but great update. The entire IP is currently blocked, as explained on my own talk page, meaning no accounts including mine could post. My comment is partly to demonstrate the potentially legally damaging effect that such blocks can have when not used with care. The request was also refused on two separate occasions, exacerbating the problem caused. Cheers Guy.shrimpton (talk) 09:17, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Correction, the IP now seems to be unblocked too, so thank you. Still, do bear in mind the effect that such a block can have and maybe ensure you communicate to resolve first rather than just impose a potentially problematic sanction. I should add, the reason given was that "'it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes", which is clearly not the case, and not something you can assert just based on the name of the account. Cheers Guy.shrimpton (talk) 09:25, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Regardless of what you called it, you did not link to it, as requested at the top of the edit page. It makes it much simpler, avoiding a search. Considering the myriad things we do, searching for everything is a waste of time, when you do know the page or account you are talking about and I don't (besides this being a three-year old issue). As for the "potentially legally damaging effect that such blocks can have", I do not know what you are talking about. These issues are very well defined in Wikipedia. Any legal issues you need to discuss with the Foundation, not here. As per the promotional name, it is. It is a clear violation of WP:ORGNAME and the moment a group-named account writes about the group (or company) it becomes promotional. This is an encyclopedia, not Facebook or a blog, or a place to write about yourself or your company. Sorry to have harsh rules but they are all documented and there for a reason. If you want to inquire about them, please ask at the Tea House. If you want to use that account, it must be renamed first, as indicated in their talk page. Log into that account and follow the instructions for for requesting a change of user name -- Alexf(talk) 09:37, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Blocked User (atagar)

Hi Alex. I'm a developer with the tor project and author of several of its subprojects (including arm and stem). Recently I discovered that you blocked my account after I corrected its links. You didn't leave a message about why, but I'm guessing it's against the rules for project authors to maintain Wikipedia entries on their own projects. If that's the case then fine - happy to honor it. I haven't edited Widipedia for years anyway.

Mostly I wanted to reach out since this block came as a bit of a surprise and felt rather rude. I would've appreciated it if you had left a message telling me my actions were inappropriate and asking me to correct it. A block without even the courtesy of a comment left a rather bitter taste in my mouth.

Anyway, just food for thought.

PS. I thought blocks were supposed to allow the subject to still edit talk pages but this one didn't. That makes it harder to resolve it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 54.240.196.185 (talk) 02:16, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Talk page is and should be open. Block was done because you posted links to a website (atagar.com) with the same name as your account. The talk page has a very big and prominent notice that explains the why and the how to resolve it. May be construed as rude. If so I apologize but breaking the rules is not acceptable. You also have a conflict of interest on the matter, which until now (here) you have not declared. -- Alexf(talk) 09:48, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
> Talk page is and should be open.
Hmmm. If I'm logged in and try to edit this page it gives me a gray field with a notice saying You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason: You are currently unable to edit Wikipedia.
> Block was done because you posted links to a website (atagar.com) with the same name as your account. The talk page has a very big and prominent notice that explains the why and the how to resolve it.
I'm guessing you're talking about the discussion with Peridon? If so then I replied on his talk page and tried to work with him on it (1, 2).
Note that was all in 2010. My only edits since then have been version bumps and to correct links (the later of which earned the block). Did any of these edits strike you as malicious? I'm confused why they're contentous.
> May be construed as rude. If so I apologize but breaking the rules is not acceptable.
I'm not clear of the rule I broke. Just so I'm clear, authors of open source projects should not touch the pages of their projects (so I should avoid touching anything tor related). Is that it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.21.26.237 (talk) 15:18, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
> You also have a conflict of interest on the matter, which until now (here) you have not declared.
Hi Alex. Read up on it more and yup, you're right. As a unpaid volunteer it wasn't clear to me I'd be covered by it but yup, according to the advice on that page I am ("If you have a personal connection to a topic or person, you are advised to refrain from editing those articles directly"). Happy to refrain from further tor edits.
That said, that page also says that non-controversial edits are fine. I can see how my actions in 2010 were against the rules, but all my edits since then have been trivial version bumps and link corrections. If you disagree could you please cite a recent contentious edit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.21.26.237 (talk) 16:05, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

On 18 August 2008, you deleted Peter Downes. Could you please have a look whether that was the same person who has just been knighted? If so, the knighthood obviously addresses the notability concern. Schwede66 19:09, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Deletion of Acorn_Mobility

Hello you have requested a deletion of a page I edited in naivety Acorn_Mobility the page has been deemed as promoting and advertising products this was not the intention. Most of the claims on the page have noteworthy web entries. The company is noteworthy and is one of the fastest growing companies in the Yorkshire region of the UK over the last 10 years.

I would like to appeal to your better nature in order to edit the page to meet the guidelines set out after all it was published and accepted back in December 2014. If it met the guidelines then can it be not reverted back to the original?

I am not a spam user and genuinely just want to create an informative page for users interested in the company Regards Brett213.229.101.59 (talk) 15:29, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

You seem to be mistaken. I have not requested the deletion of Acorn Mobility and had not seen the page until now. I see it is slated for Acorn Mobility:Articles for Deletion/Acorn by someone else and that there are several comments on that process already. Go make your voice heard there and give your comments, within policy of course. What I did do, was to place a block on the company's account: User talk:Acorn Publications, per violation of the username policy. I made no comments on the issue of spam or advertising, just conflict of interest. -- Alexf(talk) 16:46, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

SIA Scotch Whisky Wikipedia page

Hello Alex,

Hope this message finds you well.

I recently created a page for SIA Scotch Whisky that it was deleted right away.

This is actually my first time creating/editing a page on Wikipedia and I know there are a lots of guidelines and regulations to follow. I'm not sure If the page was deleted right away because there were not references (yet) or external links. I was actually going to use them but the page got deleted within a few minutes.

My intention was to create an informative page about a spirit with a very interesting story, not an advertising material page. I noticed how other brands such as Johnnie Walker, Four Rose and Double Cross have their own pages on the Wikipedia.

Did I use any words or phrase that I wasn't suppose to use?

Please Alex, advise me on how to create SIA's page without having it taken down again.

Thanks, Alessandro AlessandroSIAScotch (talk) 20:03, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

The article was pure promotion. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for advertising. For that you should use your own website. You said it was not promotional, yet you used text like: "is a new, fresh and exciting Whisky" Furthermore, every subject has to be notable, "a new, fresh and exciting Whisky" has a long way to be notable. Please read the linked pages , then compare with one of the other pages you mention and see the difference. You also seem to have a conflict of interest here, judging by your username, and be a case of paid editing. Please read and understand before you continue.-- Alexf(talk) 20:36, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

I wonder why don't you write an article or request it created at AfC if you think the subject is notable. I am not a reviewer, and posting a bunch of unformatted links here is not very efficient, nor welcome, as I can do nothing for it. Creating Swathanthra Malayalam Computing (previously deleted by you) Comment

Hi, I am creating the page Swathanthra Malayalam Computing (SMC) which was previously deleted by you on 2014-08-08T21:29:07 citing A7: Article about a club, society or group, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject. I believe the user who created the article last time must have made a sincere mistake by not including references to indicate the importance of the subject. Because, SMC is a (or the most) popular free software community in the state of Kerala, India and the Malayalam translations of at least GNOME (proof), KDE (proof), and Mozilla projects (proof) like Firefox are handled by SMC. Also, they develop many language tools like Indic Keyboard.

You can see the Malayalm Wikipedia entry and also some newspaper references here, here (in Malayalam), and here (in English)

I will (re)create the page while waiting for your response here. I shall edit and add more references on the article if you think that's required. Sincerely, asdofindia (talk) 19:01, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

You are coming to the wrong place. I am not a reviewer. I deleted the article because it had not asserted notability. In order to post an article directly into mainspace you must be sure it complies with the rules. If you have questions, you should ask at the Tea House, or request an article at AfC. -- Alexf(talk) 21:43, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
Okay. I came to this place only because the warning message accompanying the article creation page read so

"A page with this title has previously been deleted. If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the deleting administrator using the information provided below."

For example, see the DVA (band) page from your talk page. It has a similar message. Maybe that message isn't completely right. --asdofindia (talk) 03:22, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
What I meant, and the notice alludes to, is that you come to the deleting admin if you have questions on why it was deleted and what to do next. You are adding info, and basically asking to review the new data to see if it could make the article stay. As I said, I am not a reviewer, and have not the time to look at every look and every source. We do have people who can help you with that at the links provided. -- Alexf(talk) 09:30, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Deleting references on wikipedia page

Hello Alexf,

Last week, you had edited a wikipedia page, Industrial computed tomography, where you had deleted an edit i made under references. All I had done was fix a reference that had already existed on that page for over 4 years, because it was leading to a broken link. I had fixed the link so it leads back to the appropriate landing page. I have replied on my own talk page to see what can be done to fix this, however, I have not had a response. Please look into this and let me know how we can proceed. Thank you in advance for your time and efforts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jgarant (talkcontribs) 14:34, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

@Jgarant: I don't remember that edit and looking at the page's history I see you are attempting to spam your own website. That is not acceptable, and all references must be from reliable sources, which may not be the case here. As for not seeing your comment in your talk page, it is because you do not unless you have it in your watchlist, or are pinged as I did here. I also added a link to the page in this message, which you failed to do. @Alexf: I am new to wikipedia, and I am not trying to flud the website with my webpage. However, I was only trying to fix a broken link, earlier it was: www.jgarantmc.com/ct-services - which now is: www.jgarantmc.com/industrial-3d-ct-scanning-inspection-services/. That link had been live for roughly 4 years as the content attached to the reference is retrieved from that link. I am aware that there are nofollow policies, therefore, providing me with no incentive. I just want to have the rightful credit where it belongs. pre-dominantly, all of the information on the page is retrieved from the website www.jgarantmc.com, I just want to know that the credit is highlighted where rightfully due. Can you please assist me in doing so the right way, as I do not want to submit conflicts. Thank you again for your time. jgarant(talk)
@Jgarant: I understand your point, but we have to follow policy. As I am not a reviewer, nor frankly do I have the time to look at websites, as I am at work, I would suggest you read the reliable sources, and conflicts of interest pages in detail, then go to the Tea House for assistance, as they are the people that can help you best. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 16:18, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

User:Migosyrn socks - new user log.

Could you watch for these for a while? I've been doing that this morning but have other things to do. The vandalism is mainly changing the images on articles on famous rap stars. The usernames are pretty obvious - stuff about the invincible clan etc etc etc. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 16:30, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

@NawlinWiki: I am at work, and come in every 1/2 hour or so to check. Will do. -- Alexf(talk) 16:36, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Cleanup/ follow through needed

You speedily deleted an article which has an active AFD. Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elee Kay. I have no problem with the speedy, but the AFD should also be closed. It might have been nominated for AFD while you were in the process of doing the speedy deletion. Regards. Edison (talk) 17:34, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

@Edison: The AfD was being closed as you were writing this, less than a minute after the speedy. It was a waste of time to go to AfD for a clear cut case such as this. Also took time to warn the user about autobios. -- Alexf(talk) 17:37, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your work. Edison (talk) 17:51, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

It might be, but as I am at work, I cannot be looking at websites to check, so while short on time I pointed out it was not vandalism, and not for AIV. -- Alexf(talk) 14:54, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

User:MGMT90018_2015S2_PERFORMANCEMANAGEMENT

Hi Alexf,

We have created this user and the sandbox for an assignment we are doing through the University of Melbourne. The basics of the assignment is to teach us how to use Wikipedia and to help give back to the community as we no doubt use it when doing assessments. Part of this is to create user names easily identifiable by our lecturer so he is able to mark our contribution, such as our student id. Hence why my name is a series of numbers and MGMT. Link to the subject is here: https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2015/MGMT90018 Which is where the user name comes from as it is the subject code.

Previous years assignments are here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MGMT90018_Absenteeism/sandbox https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MGMT90018_Turnover/sandbox https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MGMT90018_Job_Crafting/sandbox

We won't be writing anything about UM as it is not part of the assessment, its to expose us to how to contribute and our marks is based around the wiki criteria on what makes a good article.

Are you able to unblock this account for us?

Thanks! 702781MGMT (talk) 13:06, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Ok. Now I understand, though the naming convention has to be a little better to avoid violating our username rules in regard to groups or organizations. Unblocked. -- Alexf(talk) 14:49, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

OLMBot blocking

Hello. OLMBot is my bot in ruwiki, it has bot flag in ruwiki, and it is SUL account. So blocking it because of "incorrect username" seems strange to me. OneLittleMouse (talk) 15:07, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

I see. It had no flag in en.wikipedia. Therefore the username violation. -- Alexf(talk) 15:16, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Re: Speedy Deletion of Genii 1959 page....

I'm simply attempting to create entries for my father, one of the founders of The World Famous Magic Castle. I don't know how many online sources I can find, however I felt his cover story was a good start.....

MatchesMalone (talk) 04:05, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Not all sources have to be online but they must be reliable and verifiable. Also, in your case, you should read about conflicts of interest. If you have questions, a good place to ask is at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 10:02, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi, the 11 of October 2008 you deleted this page that was moved to pl.wiki. The problem is that Mareklug, the user who created the article on Polish Wikipedia, copied and paste the wikitext and we lost the history page. Now you can see a copyright violation alert. Is it possible to join en.wiki and pl.wiki histories into the Polish one? --The Polish (talk) 21:31, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

@The Polish: I moved what we had then to User:The Polish/Stefan Knapik. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 00:00, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
So, isn't possible to move it to pl.wiki without losting the history? Btw thanks. --The Polish (talk) 20:07, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Undelete please?

I am writing to ask if you can restore the user access and undelete the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MGMT90018_2015S2_highperformanceworksystems/sandbox. The reason given was that it was (U5: Blatant misuse of Wikipedia as a web host). I can see how it might have appeared that way, but in fact the page was set up by a group of students who wanted to collaborate on editing the page before it goes live. There is no other purpose for the page than to edit a Wikipedia page to the point that it is of sufficient quality that they can begin moving the content to a live Wikipedia article by the same name (once it has been submitted for review). Thus, I do not believe it is being used as a web host. In addition, if the problem is the name of the page (which they created to make it easy for the other group members to find), they can copy the content over to one of the individual accounts. However, they will need the page at least temporarily undeleted to do that. My apologies for any confusion. Abarsky123 (talk) 05:13, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

@Abarsky123: Restored to User:Abarsky123/sandbox. I have an issue with the article not being encyclopedic and with the multiple similar-named accounts working on it. I am not familiar with the students programs in WP, so based on AGF I restored it. I suggest you seek guidance at the Tea House to avoid misunderstandings and to work within the rules. -- Alexf(talk) 12:09, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

Zoffio

Hello, my friend. You spamublocked an editor here: User talk:Zoffioindia. I blocked his sock (see bottom of that page). Now, IPs (likely him) are working on the draft which is likely notable: Draft:Zoffio. Thoughts? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:46, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

@Anna Frodesiak: Agree. Seems like block evasion to me, not to mention promotional and single purpose account. -- ~~
Further: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Zoffioindia. This guy is really driving me batty. The only thing keeping him and his socks here is the draft which seems notable, and the fact that nothing seems seriously promotional. WP:G5 talks of pages created and when. So it's a stretch to deleted that way. Plus, the history of the draft shows lots of IPs yet to be related. This whole think is a resource sink and I'd love to get it off my books. What about simply moving it to the mainspace and dealing with future editors there (same guy of course) as coi editors? Worse? Please help with a solution. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:53, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
@Anna Frodesiak: At work now, don't have the time. Yes, it is an annoying case. I would suggest you mention it at ANI and let people with more bandwidth take a look. -- Alexf(talk) 12:56, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough. Good plan. I was just writing: A possible avenue could be "...New accounts which engage in the same behavior as a banned editor or blocked account in the same context, and who appear to be editing Wikipedia solely for that purpose, are subject to the remedies applied to the editor whose behavior they are imitating..." I really feel like I'm digging for a legal loophole and am wikilawyering. But, I don't want to delete or block without policy behind me. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:57, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

Day & Night News and other pages

Hi Alexf.
I noticed you have nominated Day & Night News, created by Rajesultanpur (talk · contribs), for deletion. If you have the stomach for it, there are many other pages by the same editor (apparently under more than one username) that are just as bad or worse likr Zee Learn which I have speedied, (and is already gone) but IIRC was months old.

I began 'poking' around' after coming across:

Which are almost identical, and use exactly the same references on each page! It took me a while to realise I have come across most of these accounts before.
The sources however now look bogus to me.

  1. "Welcome to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad" rmlau.ac.in. Retrieved 2011-10-14. - appears to have nothing to do with these colleges
  2. "Pradesh" - (University Grants Commission) is dead
  3. "«Sl_No" (PDF). Retrieved 2011-10-14. - (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) is dead
  4. "About U.P.P.S.C' - only goes to "Official Website of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission", seems irrelevant and provides no information
  5. http://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/regulations/revised_finalugcregulationfinal10.pdf - Actually works!

Searching for #3 on WP led me to Ramabai Government Women Post Graduate College, whose content is very similar to the 3 places listed above, and may be the original that has been copied from. Explains the 2011 source retrieval dates for pages created in 2014 & 2015.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jitna Devi Inter College is connected, and Gene93k may be interested in my post here.
Prashantpandeyking (talk · contribs) is also connected, though blocked as a sock of Prashantpking (mentioned above) a year ago.

Prashant Pande (talk · contribs) may be the latest incarnation.

So "bull-shit regulation" rant over, I am about 8 now ≈9 hours late for some sleep(!), so I'll leave it to you to cogitate over the next step. Maybe speedy the pages as hoaxes? I think anything this editor (and socks) touches is suspect. 220 of Borg 00:49, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

Edit warring

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.-akhila3151996

It looks like you do not understand Wikipedia and edit warring. Reverting vandalism is not edit warring. Continued explanation in your user page. -- Alexf(talk) 18:01, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Ostrogoth (band)

Hi,

I see you deleted Ostrogoth (band) and gave G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.keysandchords.com/coming-concert-blog-tekst/summerrock-2015-6-juni-2015 as the reason. I believe your action was unnecessary as there was no copyright infringement at the time of article's deletion, because all that material was removed. I'll be waiting for your response. – Sabbatino (talk) 17:42, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Does the site say "Public Domain", or CCbySA? If so, I did not see it. Are you asking for reinstatement? Your message is not clear. -- Alexf(talk) 17:44, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
Well that was quick. Yes, I am asking for reinstatement as all that copyrighted material was added today by an IP user and as soon as I saw it I removed everything regarding copyright and at the time of deletion there was no copyright infringement. – Sabbatino (talk) 17:51, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. If you had linked the page I would have an idea what you are talking about. Pages get created and deleted every day. Pages are deleted for policy reasons. Maybe you should read Wikipedia:Deletion policy. If a page you wrote, or collaborated in, was proposed or nominated for deletion, there is always the recourse of contesting such deletion (see policy). Lastly, please understand that nobody "owns" pages. -- Alexf(talk) 15:31, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

User CivicWhitaker

Hi! A colleague new to Wikipedia, User:CivicWhitaker just asked me why he was blocked. From what I can tell, I think you've mistaken him for some sort of organization. I can confirm that a) Whitaker is his last name, b) he's very involved in civic work, and c) that's the handle he uses pretty much everywhere (e.g., Twitter). If that's the issue, would you mind unblocking him? Thanks, William Pietri (talk) 16:52, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

I see your point. The proper way to request is through the user talk page. I reviewed the case. He was caught by a filter posting references to his website. The name in the url included his username. That is a violation of the spam rules and the username rules. I take your word and have unblocked. Please instruct him on the rules. -- Alexf(talk) 17:26, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Page protection

Please consider changing the page protection of AN/TPS-43 to either semi- or pending-changes-level-1. The most recent heavy vandalism was by a sock who hasn't been investigated in several months, and, unless I missed the memo (which is entirely possible), pending-changes-level-2 should only be used in rare cases (office actions and grandfathered pages, and of course it goes without saying, in rare but clearly-justified WP:IAR cases). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:39, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

@Davidwr: OK. Let's try. That page has been under constant attack from a nut in Colombia for years, using different accounts, and countless IP Addresses, to the point this was required. Reduced from PC2 to PC1. Let's see how it goes before we reduce any further. Page is under permanent watchlist. Let's hope you are right. -- Alexf(talk) 23:44, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
(off-topic) We have permanent watchlists? Okay, I think I get what you mean - you are going to be watching this one for a long long time. It would be cool though if there was a group-edited watchlist called "highly vandalized pages" that interested editors could "transclude" into their own watchlists, but that's a topic for meta-wiki not here. I do know you can "fake" this feature by having a dummy account and sharing its watchlist token. It's not the same though - only 1 person can edit it (I assume - I haven't tried it) and it's a separate watchlist that has to be watched separately (I think - again, I haven't tried it). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:53, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
Of course I meant it is watched by myself (for several years now), and by some other admins and editors. Why do they pick this one? Who knows? If you can also keep an eye on it, it would be helpful. -- Alexf(talk) 00:01, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
