Lack of civility

Clearly, you and I do not share the same viewa as to notability of educational establishments. Yes, colleges are generally considered notable. That does not, however mean that every department or school within a college becomes notable. Feel free to take a contrary position to me on the issues in each case, but I would ask that you desist from your recent comments which appear to suggest that in nominating I am doing wrong. Hey- I created Russell Carter (basketball) last night. I had been putting it off for a while but finally got around to it. I still need to fill in his Notre Dame info though, but other than that it should be a complete article. WP:3RR claims

You may want to review WP:3RR, which clearly excepts "reverts to remove clearly libelous material, or unsourced or poorly sourced controversial material about living persons (see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons)", of which you have violated every single clause. I have to admit that I found it quite humorous that you would remove sourced content, replace it with malicious accusations supported exclusively by references to a blog entry, and then tag your own edits with a POV tag. Every single edit made to the Dane Rauschenberg article has added and expanded reliably sourced information and addressed issues and repeated false claims made by User:Xcstar in violation of WP:BLP. "Xcstar" is a disruptive sockpuppet, as thoroughly and uncontestably documented at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Racepacket, whose entire edit history has been devoted to inserting false and slanderous information here and at L'Arche about Dane Rauschenberg in violation of WP:BLP. WP:3RR was NOT violated here, as admitted in the block notice. User "Xcstar" made a previous false accusation of a supposed WP:3RR violation at Wikipedia:ANI/3RR#User:Alansohn_reported_by_User:Xcstar_.28Result:No_violation.29, where his similar repeated insertion of false and slanderous material regarding Dane Rauschenberg was summarily rejected. Details of "Xcstar's" repeated malicious edits are thoroughly documented at Wikipedia:BLPN#L.27Arche and have still received no action whatsoever. This appears to have been another effort by "Xcstar" to instigate a WP:3RR violation, when multiple other editors have rejected his false edits, in the hope that one admin would bite on his claim. Unlike "Xcstar", I have a proven track record of editing and expanding Wikipedia articles with relevant material backed by reliable and verifiable sources, as was done today with the Dane Rauschenberg article. Imposing a block here is utterly counterproductive to the spirit and meaning of WP:3RR and only serves to aid and abet the actions of a disruptive sockpuppet.

Update as of January 10, 2:00 AM EST: The sockpuppetry case has been deleted citing unspecified "privacy" concerns. User:Racepacket has been given a rather brief block, which would seem to confirm the validity of the sockpuppetry claim. As Xcstar is clearly a malicious sockpuppet, there seems to be no legitimate reason to continue this block. Efforts to reach via email the admin who created the block, the admin who rejected Xcstar's previous 3RR claims (rejected as the edits removed were all BLP issues) and the admin who blocked Racepacket have all been unsuccessful. Help me! Is there anybody out there?

Both you and Xcstar (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) have been properly blocked for editwarring (not 3RR) on Dane Rauschenberg (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). I see no justifying BLP concerns, just a content dispute (apparently about whether or not Rauschenberg is an amateur runner). Oh I see. I couldn't understand why you said you didn't receive email, and thought I must have been talking to an imposter. But I see that "not one " means not one today. I don't understand what exactly it is you want, but I'll tell you what I did. I blocked him for 24 hours and intended to block Xcstar indefinately once the revert warring block expired. However I see that another admin had already done it. Racepacket asked me to delete the sockpuppet report, which i was happy to do as I'd just blocked him. The block stays in the log as evidence so there is no real need to keep the page. The page is of course still visible to admins. If you think that is an abuse of policy then I can't help that. The Helen Morgan Story

Hello. I was advised by an administrator that a reference linked to an article requiring a paid subscription to read should not be used because it's not available to the majority of readers, which is why I deleted the one you added to this article. Do you have access to the full New York Times article you cited? If so, does it specify Doris Day refused to play Helen Morgan when she was offered the role in 1950 for the reason I mentioned? Sorry to butt in, but I have comments. You are correct about links to paid subscriptions. Since the New York Times is available in both print and online format, I would disagree with the application of that rule. A good case of ignore all rules. In this case, I would use {{cite news}} to directly cite the article as if I were reading the actual paper. I would omit the web link though. Your edits to Concord High School (New Hampshire)

There's no reason why the footnotes need to contain quotes of the references. If a user wants to verify a statement, they will click the footnote and visit the link. Wikipedia references never include quotes. Also, I standardized the format for the reference lists - why did you revert the formatting? There's no point in reformatting something when there's a developed and accepted format for it already. Be respectful of other's edits. I wasn't aware of the quote parameter, you could have simply added it in rather than reverting my edits. Dear Alansohn, my sincere thanks for your support in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! Request reason:

After several unfortunate instances of administrative actions on his part, I reluctantly took part at Wikipedia:Requests for bureaucratship/Husond opposing his request. User:Husond's request failed with dozens of other editors expressing concerns about his competence for the role. While I expressed clearly-defined concerns with his exceedingly poor track record on consensus as an admin, and was one of dozens expressing concerns with his inability to use proper judgment in this regard, it seemed that my participation aroused a disproportionate and unjustifiable response on his part.

I was truly disturbed by User:Husond's false and malicious charges filed minutes later at Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Alansohn which included such claims of Wikipedia violations as being "omnipresent in every single school WP:AFD", filed in the clearest possible retaliation for my participation minutes earlier at the RfB.

This retaliation on his part arose from issues I and others had raised at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Father_Michael_Goetz_Secondary_School, an AfD he had improperly closed as delete in the face of clear consensus to the contrary and that was subsequently overturned. I was not the only editor to raise issues regrading this improper close, which Husond made despite the fact that he had a clear conflict of interest and personal bias on the subject and against my participation and that of other editors who disagreed with his biased view that all school articles should be deleted.

User:Husond is an admin who has already filed an RfC in retaliation for a clearly-justified RfB vote and has an unfortunate history of repeated WP:COI violations related to improper closures of articles for deletion. This block is not only retaliatory, its punitive nature in shameless violation of WP:AGF violates the terms and purpose of WP:BLOCK, which states explicitly that "Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, not to punish users" User:Husond has simply chosen to push his personal agenda and has disrupted Wikipedia in the clearest possible violation of WP:POINT.

Decline reason:

Attacking the blocking admin and accusing him of a conflict of interest still does not address the real reason you were blocked: for unnecessary aggression, incivility, and ad hominem attacks against other users, for which this block appears to be quite justified. krimpet ✽ 00:16, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

You gotta love one admin supporting another, regardless of the clear abuse perpetrated by the other admin. This is not an ad hominem attack. This is shameless abuse of administrative privileges by an admin with a proven track record of retaliatory action and a clear conflict of interest. It boggles the mind that the clearest policy directive of WP:BLOCK that "Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, not to punish users" should be abused when there was no damage or disruption occuring and the sole purpose was continued retaliation by User:Husond. Ruth Maier

Hi, and thanks for your kind words. I'm sure I'll get back to initiating and editing articles on New Jersey again - I've made contact with the Durand House Society, which is Maplewood's historical society, and hopefully that'll yield more material on Maplewood.

Thanks also for nominating Ruth Maier for DYK. It really is a fascinating story. Just as astonishing is the story of Moritz Rabinowitz, which deserves a rather extensive biographical profile. Incidentally, there's an off-Broadway puppet show about him playing in New York now called Fabrik. Question for Alansohn regarding Tenafly

Hope that this is the proper place to ask for clarification. I added our Tenafly.tv site to the Tenafly page this morning and just noticed that you had undone the change. I'm rather new at this, but was hoping you might be able to clarify why. While we are not the offical Tenafly town site, our site focuses solely on Tenafly and gives a unique video perspective.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I have visited and read the External link policy you referenced and found it very informative. I realize a hybrid site such as ours can be difficult to classify since the software we use does include blog and social media capabilities. While our site features a blog section, we have only used this feature to provide a welcome messages to our visitors and do not consider ourselves a blog site by any stretch.

Was hoping to provide you with some additional information and ask if it would be possible for you to revisit our site and consider re-including it...

The main purpose our our site is to handpick and distill videos about Tenafly, NJ. We are not a commercial site and do not accept any advertising or sell any services. Our hope is that the videos provide a distinctly different and useful way for visitors interested in Tenafly to learn about the city, much in the way that other select town guides are sometimes included in Wikipedia listings.

For example, parents considering a move to Tenafly may be interested in detailed stats provided by the NCES link, potential students might be more interested to see videos of different school events and video scrapbook albums of different classes.

You have never responded to the issues I had raised here on your talk page (since archived) and at Talk:Hearts and Minds (film) regarding your removal of relevant sourced content from the film article. I am seeking a detailed explanation for your removal of this content and the specific Wikipedia policies justifying removal of sourced content in the absence of any issue raised by any editor of the article other than yourself. While I would have hoped that you would have undone this removal yourself in good faith, no action has been taken. Before pursuing conflict resolution steps on the Coker article, I will be addressing issues with the film article first as there is you are the only other party to the conflict there. I blocked you for continuing to make uncivil personal attacks after being warned several times, then unblocked you in good faith after you emailed me promising to stop attacking other editors and find consensus for your proposed version; but I see you continue to make uncivil comments about other editors. Nicole Atkins/Neptune City

Bearing in mind that numerous sources list Neptune City as Nicole Atkins’ hometown, I offer the following that contradict that assertion. ^[3] “This spooky (and by that I mean ghostly and airy, not frightening) quality seems a natural sonic destination for Atkins, who grew up on a river in Neptune, New Jersey and used to imagine that ghosts were lurking in the fog.” ^[4] “Neptune City," an indirect ode to her hometown of Neptune, NJ, is a final and triumphant closing track.” and “She grew up in Neptune, NJ, right across the street from Shark River.” And the clincher: ^[5] “But the neighborhood I live in is called Shark River -- it's part of Neptune -- I live right across the street from the river, and there's a bird sanctuary.” Notice that Atkins mentions not only her neighborhood, but states explicitly that it’s part of Neptune, not Neptune City. (different town) There are no named neighborhoods within tiny Neptune City - Shark River or otherwise. She is talking about Shark River Hills.

Furthermore, a search on WhitePages.com for the name Atkins in Neptune City returns only five listings, none of which are actually in Neptune City. Rather they are all in Neptune. Indeed, the first entry returned is Atkins’ mother (see her Wiki entry; Early Life), with an address listing in Shark River Hills. (click on “Listing Details”, then “Map”, then zoom out two clicks.)

Now, being the Jerseyphile you are, you should appreciate this; See Atkins’ “Journey Through Neptune City, Vol. 1” video here. ^[6] She takes the camera person back to the section of the river where she grew up and was inspired to write her songs. Pause the video at 0:34. The camera is pointed west (as per the direction of the sun). Were she standing in Neptune City, the East End Avenue bridge between Neptune City and Shark River Hills would be plainly visible. Instead, there is no bridge and the water curves to the left before snaking back behind a wooded land mass, indicating she is in Shark River Hills, likely around South Riverside or Pinewood Drive. Now look at Atkins as she stands on the river from 0:39 to 1:44. If she were standing in the grassy area of Neptune City overlooking the Shark River, then the docks along S. Riverside Drive in the northeast section of Shark River Hills would be plainly visible behind her across the river. Instead, it is a mostly wooded area. (The Evans/Marconi Road area of Wall Township ) Now look at her at 1:19. The land across the river from her curves dramatically to the left like a crescent. This can only be Belmar, specifically the area along Route 35 and MacLearie Park. Again, were she in Neptune City, the land mass across the river would simply curve right and there would be open water behind her, with Seaview Island and the new Route 35 bridge faintly visible behind her. They aren't.

All of the sources listing Neptune City as her hometown, including the Bergen Record, are based far away from Monmouth County and the authors are obviously making an un-fact-checked assumption based solely on the album title. For an analogous situation, many authors refer to Asbury Park as Bruce Springsteen’s hometown based, partly, on the title of his debut album, yet he never maintained a residence there. Indeed, not only did Rolling Stone’s Melissa Maerz incorrectly refer to “Atkins’ native Neptune City”, she also referred to Brooklyn as “her current home.” Atkins hasn’t lived in Brooklyn since 2004 – Maerz's article was published in November 2007.

I understand Wikipedia’s liberal verification rules, but this is why it often has a reputation for being an unreliable source of information. It doesn’t matter how often something is published or where it’s published. If it’s wrong, it’s wrong. As you've expressed an interest in gathering as accurate and comprehensive a file on New Jersey municipal information as possible, I hope you’ll appreciate the research above and understand why I removed Atkins as a notable resident from Neptune City. I understand the confusion and I guess it's hard to explain on paper. In case you couldn't tell, I grew up in the area and can tell you it's just accepted that when someone says "Neptune" they don't need to say "Township" for the same reason you can say "Wall" without the need for "Township." However, if someone says "Neptune City," you know that they are talking about the borough, which is separate from plain old Neptune. (The one exception to this rule is "Point," which refers to Point Pleasant Beach rather than Point Pleasant Borough. Again, one of those things you just know if you're from there.) If Atkins casually said just "Neptune" in an interview, anyone from the neighborhood would know she meant the township. Beyond the Wiki entries for each municipality, I'd direct you to this Asbury Park Press story from April. ^[7]. See the paragraph entitled "...and in Neptune City", which makes clear that it is a distinct town unto itself. Also, in a recent Village Voice interview, ^[8] Atkins specifies Neptune "City" in her discussion about the Bilow's liquors and the fact that people "don't know it's an actual town." I know Wiki has its guidelines, but it kills those of with an intimate knowledge of the area to see factual inaccuracies like this. See your point. The Badge has the picture of the dummy as he sits on the pier (Blue whaler's hat, blue and white striped shirt, red vest), and the word "Ralph" printed next to it.

Thus it would prove that an independent third party, that is a quasi-governmental organization, recognizes that there is a "fisherman" wearing a blue whaler's hat, blue and white striped shirt, red vest, named Ralph, in Ocean Grove, sitting on the pier. That would seem to verify his existence.

Demonstrating that the loss of the fishing pier in Ocean Grove was a devastating blow to Ocean Grove residents and the Ocean Grove Fishing Club can be verified by this article: A POINT OF PRIDE SWEPT OFF BY STORM OCEAN GROVE LOST MORE THAN TIMBER. THE PIER WAS PART OF ITS LIFE. Source: William R. Macklin, INQUIRER STAFF WRITER Published on December 14, 1992, Page S01, Philadelphia Inquirer. A photo of a T-shirt with the image and name of Ralph on it, and the words Ocean Grove Fishing Club would also confirm his Ralph's existence. Thanks for your edits on this new article! The New York Times obit that you added as a reference was great, but I think their count of films that O'Steen edited for Mike Nichols isn't correct, as you'll see in the filmography. Funny that you mention it, but I had submitted a DYK nomination for O'Steen, mentioning his collaborations with Nichols as part of the hook. I've only been involved in an AfD for Handbra and since I desperately wanted to avoid another AfD conflict over this article, I simply moved it to another, larger article, where the information fit better. Brookline High School Athletics section

In case you have not realized, in the past the BHS Athletics section (as well as the Notable Alumni section) is a fairly popular hotspot by current BHS students to attempt to get their names on the Wiki page and land some fame to show their friends.

Regardless if the track team won a regional title and its sourced or not, I can bet you that Doesone (the editor who originally put it in) is on that team. We don't want to go down that road where every BHS team or athlete who we never heard of that won something now warrants to be included on the page. Heck, I know the BHS Girls Swim Team won back-to-back regional titles in the late 1980s, but I wouldn't put it on the page, would you? 05:41, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Need your help

Hey- Could you go to Gene R. Nichol and scroll down to the very bottom of the page where there's an "incumbent succession box" template. It says that he's still the president of W&M and that "Incumbent" is going to be succeeding him. Nichol actually stepped down as president a week ago and the interim president is W. Pittsford Mendon High School

Although I understand some of your recent edits of the Pittsford Mendon High School article (especially those about removing unused infobox items), I would like to ask you about some of the changes:

The {{factt}} is a typo that does not properly resolve ... it causes a red "Template:Factt" in the article; this was corrected a few revisions ago. Why did you restore it?
In the Feeder patterns section, you added the word "Currently". This was also removed a few edits ago because the word "currently" is redundant and unnecessary. Every statement in a Wiki article is the current status unless it specifically references a date or time.
The {{Geolinks-US-buildingscale|43.059983|-77.518845}} already exists in the infobox and is not needed at the end of the article. In fact, its presence there causes a double overwrite at the top of the article. It too was removed in an earlier revision.
Why was the [[Category:Monroe County, New York]] tag removed?

It looks as if the article was reverted to an earlier revision, although your edit summary does not say that. Would you please consider the above comments and make any changes you feel are appropriate. Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 02:29, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. Help with category placement

I noticed you took out a few sub categories that I placed. The reason I did it was because if you go here: Category:Seaside resorts in the United States, there are several towns there listed as a subcategory that are seaside resorts in the US. Would a proper subcategory for this only be a more refined one like a state, such as seaside resorts in Florida? If so, then the other ones that are just towns & cities should be removed as well. As an example, The Wildwoods are a series of shore resort communities in New Jersey, most of which have "Wildwood" in their name; Each of these communities are shore communities, so Category:Seashore resorts in the United States is appropriate. If you look at Category:The Wildwoods, New Jersey, there are entries for Wildwood Catholic High School and for Tramcar (Wildwood), both of which are for articles related to The Wildwoods. Category:The Wildwoods, New Jersey includes the parent catgeory Cape May County, United States, whcih makes sense, as every place, school and tramcar in The Wildwoods is part of the surrounding county. However, while all of the places are Seashore communities, the High school and the tramcar are not; The Category:Seashore resorts in the United States does not apply to anything other than places, and that's why it was removed. What could be done, and could also be done with similar multi-community resorts in Florida, is to develop an intermediate category, in this case called "Places in the Wildwoods, New Jersey", which would then have both Cape May County AND Seashore resorts in the US as parent categories. Apparently there's a big problem then. I've looked at many different categories. Here's one example Category:Virginia Beach, Virginia. Notice how the categories listed for that category are Category:Cities in Virginia and Category:Seaside resorts in the United States, yet there are many different articles on highways, schools, etc. within that aren't cities or resorts. Dave Robinson

Dave Robinson was born in Mount Holly at Burlington County Memorial Hospital but he was never a resident of that town because he did not live there. After leaving the hospital in 1941 he lived with his family across from the school and near the Mount on Mt. Laurel-Hainesport Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054 until 1959. I have looked for credible evidence supporting my contention that Dave Robinson was a resident of Mount Laurel, not Mount Holly. Last January, Dave Robinson and I had several conversations at the MHS Parents Football Banquet in Moorestown. That evening he informed me that he and Bill Connell, a life-long resident of Mount Laurel, went to kindergarten together in Mount Laurel. I had known that Dave and Bill were close neighbors but didn't know that they were classmates in kindergarten. Later that evening Bill confirmed the kindergarten account to me. I knew then that Dave Robinson had been a resident of Mount Laurel from the age of five to eighteen when he moved to State College, PA as a Penn State student. But the question remained where was he a resident before the age of five?

I knew that Ethel Robinson Lawrence, who is Dave's older sister, was the lead plaintiff in the famous Mount Laurel Decision. Both she and Dave's mother, Mary Robinson, are documented in numerous articles and books. A key aspect of the litigation was the fact that the Robinson family had lived in Mount Laurel for generations. Among Mount Laurel residents this fact was well known, frequently discussed, and often written about. Here is a link to one of many documents that supports this fact: Tribute to Ethel Robinson Lawrence It states: "Ethel was the second of eight children born to Mary and Leslie Robinson. At the time, Mount Laurel, in Burlington County, was a rural enclave of farms. Most residents were white, but there was a small black population. Ethel Lawrence was among them. The family resided in Mount Laurel for over six generations." This information is credible and answers the question. Dave Robinson was a resident of Mount Laurel from infancy until he attended kindergarten. Thus, he was a resident of Mount Laurel from the day he came home from the hospital until the day he departed for college.

Examination of the history of edits for the Mount Holly Township article reveals that the addition of Dave Robinson as a notable resident was made last February 24 by an anonymous contributor. Furthermore, the reference states that Dave was born in Mount Holly, which is true, but nothing about his place of residence. Unfortunately, both you and the original contributor have assumed that Dave Robinson was also a resident of Mount Holly. And you have not- and will not because it does not exist- provide any evidence that he was ever a resident of Mount Holly.

Therefore, the appropriate action is for you to remove the erroneous information in the Mount Holly article regarding Dave Robinson.

"Number 57"

I saw where you defended Stephen King (soccer) (thanks). But the high-on-himself Number 57 (read his bio, he refers to himself in the third person - who does that??) is at it again with the AfD. I simply do not understand how SK is not notable, not only for being on the Chicago Fire team, but also for all of his accomplishments in high school and college leading up to his draft selection. Very few soccer players can ever say they've been on Olympic Development teams, the U-15 national team, win a high school state championship AND a college national championship, etc. 57's tag is complete bull-ish. If there is ANY justice in the Wikipedia world it will be obvious that he's wrong. Also, his post on my discussion wall seems patronizing. Jrcla2 (talk) 17:19, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
