As a general rule, internal links should only be used once per article. You can see the guideline at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links). Excessive links can be distracting and make the article difficult to read. A link should only be used more than once if it has been a very long time since the last place it was used, such as in the case of an extremely long article. Otherwise, once is sufficient. KafzielTalk19:36, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking the same. Then don't know what made me add the links. I agree that too many internal links could be distracting. Thanks for pointing out, the internal link at the first occurrence of the word should be ok. A. S. AulakhTalk19:39, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A belated welcome
Since nobody has officially welcomed you yet, I thought I would give you some links you might find helpful as you edit Wikipedia.
Also, if you ever want to practice writing an article from scratch, you can click this link: User:A. S. Aulakh/sandbox. (The link will turn blue after your first edit to the page.) You can also copy and paste an article there to experiment with text or image syntax. (Just remember to remove the categories from any article you paste there.)
Yea, they seem like sikhs, but appearances can be deceptive. Anyways, the original author/photographer says muslim soldiers and since most of Mr. Bremner's photos were taken in present day Pakistan, it could be possible that it was a mix of Indian and Pakistani soldiers. Interestingly, this is the ONLY photo where he says that the posing solders were all muslims and given written proof, we at Wikipedia have to go with what the author says, unless there is evidence to the contrary from a good source. Hope I've clarified this. Thanks. Idleguy13:16, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I am still doubtful as majority of the soldiers in that picture are appearing Sikhs to me and I have decent understanding of Sikh soldiers. Anyway, I will try to find some evidence in favor of or against my doubt and let you know. It might be difficult though. A. S. AulakhTalk06:25, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Panjabi wikipedia
Praji, space for a wikipedia in Panjabi is allocated here. I have recently added input system in Gurmukhi. But there aren't any serious editors there. It would be great if you joined the effort. Thank you.--Eukesh14:17, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Other Sikh topics to be brought into Scope
Praji, I wondered if other Sikh related topics could be brought into the Sikhism project.I am particularly concerned about 1984 related topics Khalistan, Khalistan Movement, Operation Bluestar that are edited by Indian Wikipedia editors Binguyen, Gnanipati, Riana etc to keep a Congress/ Indian Nationalist POV only.I have noticed Sikh editors are blocked from editing by these people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Singhls (talk • contribs) 07:45, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on SikhSpectrum, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because SikhSpectrum is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting SikhSpectrum, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Genetic Algorithms
Hi Aulakh. I reverted your addition "finding hardware bugs during validation" because it needs a citation. We are discussing the large, growing number of applications mentioned in the Article (probably we need a bibliography page), perhaps on account of the large number of doctoral dissertations on the subject (AI, control-engineering...). So we are a bit conservative trying to avoid bloat. IMO, your application sounds quite interesting and I'd like to know more about it, myself. Feel free to reply at my Talk or at the talk page of the article. Pete St.John (talk) 17:54, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. Your suggestion (at my Talk) of keeping the item but flagging it for "citation needed" is very reasonable; but really, the article is swamped with application examples and we are looking to trim it down. So I'm content to wait for you to dig up references and place a new item, maybe this weekend :-) plenty fast enough for my standards :-) You might even consider starting an article "Applications of Genetic Algorithms" to help out the numerous researchers and control engineers & others who are in the same boat. Pete St.John (talk) 18:19, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
re-rehi. You are too quick for me but yes, great, thanks. But maybe you can appreciate the growing problem; that's a growing list (Applications) and it's been trimmed back several times. Pete St.John (talk) 18:40, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Gandhi and the Anglo-Zulu War
I replied to your comments on the article's talk page. The way you have re-written the section in question seems more fair and balanced. Your note to me that reads, Its not encouraged to delete sections on wikipedia just because the information is not known to you and you think something is "possible" comes off as being somewhat rude or, at least, brusque. The section was originally titled with his "participation"... which could not have happened as he was 9 years old at the time. I'll thank you to note that I did in fact read through the source material and although I do not have the same context as you seem to, I saw no direct relation to the topic on that page and, thus, stand by my decision to remove the content as originally written. Wrodina (talk) 05:55, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Wrodina, thanks for the reply and sane discussion. The intention of my message was not as it got perceived, rather was to highlight a wikipedia policy of deleting sections. Please note that your comment in the edit log can also be perceived as rude since it tags the contributer as a Gandhi defamer. Anyway, you are always welcome to critique even the current form of that section and thus contribute towards increasing the quality. Unfortunately, we all have been a victim of long time propaganda about M. K. Gandhi and hence its normal to see any such less known facts coming as a surprise. Regards, ----A. S. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Hi Jon, this is in reply to your query above about Nihang and Akali. The Akali word when used in the form of an adjective refers to somebody/something that is "pertaining to Akaal or the supreme power" or in simple words "Divine". In the form of a Noun it refers to somebody who is:-
An admirer and follower of Akaal ie. the admirer and follower of Supreme Power.
Some of the qualities of an Akali human are that the person should be:-
Admirer and follower of the "Supreme Power" and its laws.
Though present in the material world, is unique and is not attached too much to that material world.
Earns his/her bread by hard work and considers begging as "haraam" (highly illegitimate).
Considers happiness/good-times and sorrow/bad-times as both the same under the divine law and part of day to day life. (Particularly, this is in reference to Guru Nanak's philosophy in AGGS where he mentions that "dukh" and "sukh" both have to be faced in this world and asking for only "sukhs" from the Supreme Power is a futile effort and is bound to be rejected.)
A person who selflessly works for social cause and protects the Gurdwara's and is always conscious and ready for the struggle for the righteous cause.
A person who does not perform the "pooja" of any other "devi" or "devs" but is only the follower and believer of "One Supreme" Akaal and abides by the tenth Sikh guru Gobind Singh
There is a subtle difference between the usage of the words Nihung and Akali. Nihung word in common day to day language has become synonymous with all the people who are born in the Nihung familes. However, the acts of such a person may disqualify him/her from being called an Akali. Similarly, in common day to day language the people of Punjab and neighboring states have begun to call the politicians of the "Akali Dal" political party as "Akali's", however in literary sense they should not be called so.
Hope the above helps, let me know if you have further questions. --A. S. Aulakh
If you can provide a reliable NPOV source to substantiate the claim that his father was influenced by Dayanand Saraswati as the originals lines are portraying in the article, it will be great. Thanks, ----A. S. AulakhTalk05:22, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for the clarification. Right now, I'm in the process of removing all the unreliable sources and replacing them with book sources. Hopefully, I'll be able to find the source for that statement. Nishkid64 (talk)05:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nihang ?
That is Ok, that is the literel meaning of "Akali". But my question was that in Wikipedia "Akali" simply points to "Nihangs". But Akali in fact is a politicol term, whereas "Nihang" pertains to the highly discplined organistion of armed monks who have nothing to do with politics. Seeing the heroic role and uparalleded sacrifice of this bravest among the brave Sikhs, is it Ok to let them be confused them with a politicol party that has done nothing after 1947 except degrading the Sikh community in eyes of the world by filling the mind of the Sikh community with venom of seperatism ( for benefiting the one and only real enemy of the Sikhs i.e. the islamic-fascits )
Hi, this is in regard to your revert on the Blue star article. You have reverted the change from phyrric victory to victory, usually phyrric victory denote cases where the victorious army suffered irreplaceable casualties. In case of op blue star indian army sufferred 83 death, 249 wounded in return about 207 millitants were found dead. Thus the op seems to not fit the description of a phyrric victory, hence I would request you to reconsider your decision abt the revert. LegalEagle (talk) 14:07, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:SoftTargetBook1989.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:SoftTargetBook1989.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
Hi Aulakh!
I am posting this on your talkpage because i think you would be able to help on what i have to say.It is another matter if you cannot and it would be okay.
Anyway,i want to know if you know or possess knowledge about the origin of the name Singh. It is being suggested in the article Singh that Guru Gobind Singh Ji adopted that because he was inspired by the heroism of Rajputs. It is kind of demeaning .You can read that in the History part of that article.
I have removed the controversial line as nobody could comeup conclusive refference. But your help might be needed still. And how is the work of Mcleod held among sikhs.I guess his was quite controversial.Ajjay (talk) 05:36, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Quick assistant technology.gif. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. Sikh Politics/Khalistan
Dear AS Aulakh
I am increasingly alarmed at the the distortion of Sikh topics by Indian Nationalists. If you look at the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khalistan there are allegations that Sikhs that want an Independant country from India are all Pakistani agents or terrorists. The article has several allegations of terrorism added, there is a seperate article on Indian terrorism to discuss these. The overall article has been edited in a way as an attack on Pakistan using Sikh topics. There are many movements that have not been involved in violence that want Independence.
Information about Sikh Independance and human rights violations even when referenced are speedily deleted by some of the Indian editors on Wikipedia There seems to be an editors war between on Sikh topics . On the discussion page there are has racist remarks such as the word Khalsa (a term that is applied to othodox Sikhs) means laughter which is without foundation.
A tag has been placed on Template:User WikiProject Sikh Philosophy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Banda Singh Bahadur.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Banda Singh Bahadur.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

File source problem with File:SikhsInFrancePostcard.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:SikhsInFrancePostcard.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

Meanwhile, Can your good selves in Wiki Project Indian Community re-create a precise pages on [Naresh Sonee] & his book [Brahmand Pujan] – [Brahmaand Pujan] . However, Sonee is the writer of this book [Brahmand Pujan] written in 1999 . registered with Government of India- HRRD. Since 5-6 yrs, for one or the other reason pages of [Naresh Sonee] & [Brahmand Pujan] are faced by communal bias from outside India so these articles over and again get deleted here in Wikipedia for minor reasons. However, many hits of - Naresh Sonee reflects on google search engine also. So, I request Wiki Indian community to kindly come forward and generously help these two pages to grow, as I am fed up to fight my case alone here [left] and moved out long back. Meanwhile, such an important info/issue on ‘Indian literature’ which adds & spell ‘new meaning /dimension’ to Brahman -should it stay lost else ignored? Your community panel has to judge at last.
Myself, will not be on Wikipedia, for the same i apologise, but- pls. help these two pages to get reinstalled, reap, sow and grow, if you too feel so, I appeal to do this munificent favour. Regards- Dralansun (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:46, 27 December 2010 (UTC).[reply]
