Tongoni, Tanga City Council
Tongoni (Kata ya Tongoni, in Swahili) is an administrative ward in Tanga City Council of Tanga Region in Tanzania. Tangasisi and Maweni wards form the ward's northern and western boundaries. The Pemba Channel forms the eastern boundary. The Kigombe Ward of Muheza is to the south. The wards of Kirare and Marungu are to the west. The ward covers an area of 44 km2 (17 sq mi),[1] and has an average elevation of 30 m (98 ft).[2] According to the 2012 census, the ward has a total population of 4,594.[3] Tongoni ward is the home to the Tongoni ruins, a Medieval Swahili town.
