I think WP:TFD might be a more appropriate venue for this. Also, I undid your bold change that turned Template:Niccolò Machiavelli into a redirect. The contents of the two templates seem to differ significantly. Whether/how to merge the two is the kind of question that WP:TFD specializes in. Colin M (talk) 15:14, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I just noticed a number of features that the eponymous template had that the "works by..." one did not, like: wikisource/wikiquote links along the bottom, redlinks to works not having articles, thumbnail image. If you actually think none of these have any value, feel free to undo my revert. I just got the impression that the discarding of the eponymous template might have been done in haste. I don't think they were created with that intention. The older template was created in July 2009 and the newer in November 2009. If you look at late 2009 versions of The Prince or Discourses on Livy, you can see that none had yet been added. Most likely, the user who created the second template didn't know that the first one existed. It's a simple mistake where two versions of the same template were created. In a case like this it's usually fine to just redirect. But maybe it was more complicated than I thought, and I should have gone through a separate deletion process. Yeah, I considered that. An obsessive sense of justice for the original creator just made me prioritize the older template. I'll make another attempt to redirect the newer template, update the older one, and see if any protest remains. Otherwise I'll take it to WP:TFD. Ffranc (talk) 07:45, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
