Corrections

The map needs investigated as in my opinion the layout in the Brynmawr and Beauford area with the connectiing lines to Aberbeeg via the Ebbw Vale (High Level) and (Low Level) branches seem to differ from the maps I have consulted. Steamybrian2 (talk) 16:18, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It may well do. I started this diagram a long time age and have more experience now. While I don't have the time I used to spend on here any more I'll try to tweak it. Won't get all "artistic" if I'm beaten to it, though. Britmax (talk) 18:44, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of issues I spotted:
  • There was no separate goods station south of Brynmawr;
  • No connection with the Monmouthshire south of Beaufort;
  • There is a Beaufort tunnel east of the station of the same name;
  • Dowlais Top had platforms on both the Brecon & Merthyr and the MT&A;
  • Just south of Dowlais Top on the B&M are the Penywern/Cwm Bargoed junctions where the line forks west and south. The south fork runs down to and is parallel with (for a certain distance) the Taff-Bargoed - but there is no connection. The west fork reaches Dowlais High Street station which is almost directly north of the Taff-Bargoed's Cae Harris station. Then there is a short branch linking with the B&M north of Dowlais Central before the two Pantysgallog halts: the low level on the MT&A and the high level on the B&M. The M&T passes under the B&M and through Morlais Tunnel.
  • There was no passenger terminus in Merthyr: the line curved around Rhydycar junction to terminate at Cyfartha. Adjacent was the Taff Vale's Plymouth Street station and after that the Vale of Neath's Merthyr High Street.
  • There was no separate line south of Heolgerrig.
  • If there was a link between the MT&A and the Taff Vale at Plymouth Street, it ran south-east/north-west
  • South of Rhydycar junction was a north-pointing triangular junction. To the south-west was the Vale of Neath line which passed through Abernant Tunnel (not Merthyr Tunnel), and to the south east was the Quakers Yard line as shown. Lamberhurst (talk) 09:30, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Observations on the above

Noting the existence of the LNWR and B & M Joint Railway, that note is made in the template details, I would query the comment above that refers to Dowlais Top. Dowlais Top (LNWR) was a station that closed in 1885 and as such should be shown with an closed station icon on the left-hand running line of the line template (that being the LNWR and B&M Joint Railway Line. This should be shown as an entry BEFORE the one for Dowlais (High Street)which should also have its closed station icon on the same left hand running line as Dowlais Top (LNWR)

Dowlais Top (B&MR) should have its name clarified on the template now to avoid confusion. That particular station stayed open well into the 20th century. That should be shown on the current line shown in the template.

Pantysgallog (Low Level) Halt was also a station on the LNWR and B&M Joint Railway, so the closed station icon should be transferred over to the left-hand running line on the line template, from its current position.

UPDATE TO ABOVE

An attempt to update matters has unfortunately made a mess of the template and what needs to be shown going upwards ON THE SAME LINE towards Rhymney Bridge with closed station icons shown shown are:-

Pantysgallog (Low Level) Halt ... Dowlais High Street ... Dowlais Top (LNWR)
