Format
There has been some disagreement today about the format of this navbox. The current format of most Kamen Rider navboxes is contrary to the generally accepted format for navboxes. Navboxes are supposed to contain as little non-linked text as possible; the colons after the section headings are superfluous and should be removed. Navboxes should also contain no duplicate links; there should not be a link to a section on an article when a direct link to the article is already included. Navboxes are for grouping related articles, not for presenting information; that is what articles are for. As such, a link to Kiva-la should not be included simply to make the list of Kamen Riders complete; that kind of information should be relegated to the content of articles. Navboxes should also be as compact as possible; there is no need to have two sections listing characters when one line can contain all the necessary links. I made these changes to this navbox and plan on doing the same with the other Kamen Rider navboxes unless it can be demonstrated that the current format is more advantageous. Please do not revert this format without providing such a justification. Neelix (talk) 00:41, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Stop reverting the damn template. Follow WP:BRD. You made a bold edit, it was reverted, I discussed it with you. Do not make any other edits like this. The formatting is fine. There is no manual of style that forces the style you have been putting in place. If there was, the templates would look nothing like what they do. I disagree with your changes. That does not mean you keep making those damn changes.
The colons were removed. There should be a link to Kiva-la because maybe an article will be there. The templates are simple enough. The templates provide a means to navigate throughout all of the related pages. Just stop changing it.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 01:32, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No further discussion should take place here, anyway. This discussion should be moved to WT:TOKU where it can be discussed by the WikiProject that deals with these templates. Neelix, I am making a promise to you here: if you revert this template, again, or make your controversial reformats to any of the other templates in this category, I will report you to WP:AN3.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 01:51, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I do not appreciate being sworn at, nor is swearing helpful when attempting to reach concensus. I have stated my reasons for favouring a particular navbox format. While I have not received any arguments against the format I recommend, my edits have been reverted three times now, first without edit summary and subsequently with hostile edit summary, but never with any explanation of why a different format might be more advantageous. Simply reverting another user's edits and telling them to back off is not a helpful contribution to the conversation. I have been providing thorough explanations of my edits, both in edit summary and in discussion on my talk page and the template's talk page, but I have not received any explanations of the reversions of my edits in return. I told you that I did not agree with the reformatting. That should be enough of a reason. It takes up more room (horizontally). There is a reason why these templates have been formatted as they are. First, it separates the lists of the characters from the characters who are notable enough to have their own articles (despite your opinion on the matter). It separates the protagonists from the antagonists (or it would if this series had a cogent list of antagonists). It takes up less space across the width of a page. Sure, it may be a little taller, but that's not that much of a problem. Also, there is absolutely no reason to remove links to related sections on various other articles. If the lay reader comes along and wants to read about Kamen Rider Kiva-la, they can click on the link "Kiva-la" and they're brought to a section. If someone wants to read about the Episode Yellow movie which does not have its own article but involves this series, they can click that link rather than going to the Den-O page and have to find that section from that page. But really, rather than discussing this template, you want to discuss them all, and we should do that at WT:TOKU where I am currently writing up a thread.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 02:02, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
