by Todd McCaffrey
I have <!-- HIDDEN --> the Pern books by Todd McCaffrey. Should they be listed?
Because this was years out of date (which I have not addressed except in the Pern section), the effect on the display is to replace Dragonsblood (Todd 2005) with Dragon's Time (Anne & Todd 2011). --P64 (talk) 18:34, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
2012-05-15, I have restored the three Pern by Todd McCaffrey as a subgroup.
We do have {{Pern stories}} in categories Novel series navigational boxes and Fantasy templates, yet this change seems best to me now that the subgroup heading provides clarity. -P64
I doubt we will have separate articles for the omnibus editions, I imagine they can be covered in the top level articles for each series. Perhaps we can remove those comments completely now? --Mirokado (talk) 23:34, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Omnibus editions data deleted along with restore three titles by Todd and re-cat in the Author templates hierarchy. --P64 (talk) 18:36, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Further trimming
Since navboxen are supposed to be aids to navigation between existing related articles I have removed groups which have only redlinks. Here are the removed parts of the navbox, by all means maintain them here as necessary, perhaps they can be moved back if more articles are created.
Coelura and Nimisha's Ship actually take place in the same universe (though there isn't any overlap of characters as far as I know). Also the "Pegasus" and "Tower and Hive" series, of course (Reidingers)... AnonMoos (talk) 23:20, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A Diversity of Dragons isn't a novel and its classification simply as fiction is not secure. McCaffrey and her children, co-authors, and readers of advance copies (most of whom are still with us) probably disagree about which works make commitments that imply distinct fictional universes--and which of those commitments were mistakes.
"Standalone novel(s)" shouldn't be written or read to imply such inconsistency--not the lack of consistency but the lack of some positive relationship, perhaps what we mean by "sequel(s)". Yet I won't object to using "Other novels" as we use "Other series". I'm not sure en.wikipedia should use 'standalone' in this sense.
The navbox for book and series articles shouldn't try to sort all that, and should use fewer levels of hierarchy than we may use elsewhere. (For McCaffrey we do use more levels elsewhere. See section 2.3 of our biography Anne McCaffrey#Books#Federated Sentient Planets universe which "overarches" 2.3.1 Dragonriders of Pern series to 2.3.4 Ireta.)
I wrote the prose blurbs at Anne McCaffrey#Talents universe and Anne McCaffrey#Acorna universe, evidently little- or un-revised by other editors. Here as elsewhere I followed ISFDB. 2.3 Federated Sentient Planets is essentially the work of previous editors, and unreferenced because ISFDB doesn't group that body of fiction.
If i wrote the navbox template, Talents and Acorna universes would be grouped by the left-hand labels but I wouldn't do it with two levels of labels. Rather something like this:
Your post is indented as if in reply to mine, but only small parts of it really address what I wrote... In Nimisha's Ship, Demeathorn Blue City is specifically named, and the basic events of The Coelura (insofar as they relate to coelura availability) are summarized.
