Sphumelele Shamase
Sphumelele Shamase (born 16 January 2002) is a South African soccer player who plays as a winger for A Lyga side FC Gintra and the South Africa women's national team.[1] Club careerUJ Ladies F.CShamase currently plays for the UJ Ladies F.C. In 2023, she was the top scorer in the 2023 Hollywoodbets Super League finishing with 22 goals.[2] FC GintraOn 6 May 2024 she joined A Lyga side FC Gintra.[3] She made her debut in a 3-1 win over Rīgas FS on 8 May 2024.[4] She won the A Lyga title with the team in her first season. In her first appearance in the UEFA Women's Champions League on 4 September 2024, Shamase scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory over Moldovan champions Anenii Noi.[5] Shamase finished her first season in Europe with 12 league goals in 13 appearances for FC Gintra, with 17 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions.[6] International careerIn 2017, she was selected in the Bantwana squad for the FIFA U/17 Women's World Cup Qualifiers.[7] Shamase competed for Bantwana at the 2018 FIFA U/17 Women's World Cup.[8] In 2022, she competed for the South African women's national team at the 2022 COSAFA Women's Championship were they finished as runners-up to Zambia.
