Saphenophis
Saphenophis is a genus of snakes in the subfamily Dipsadinae of the family Colubridae.[1] The genus is native to northwestern South America. Geographic rangeSpecies in the genus Saphenophis are found in Colombia and Ecuador.[1] SpeciesFive species are recognized as being valid.[1]
Nota bene: A binomial authority in parentheses indicates that the species was originally described in a genus other than Saphenophis. EtymologyThe specific name, boursieri, is in honor of French ornithologist Jules Bourcier.[2] The specific name, sneiderni, is in honor of Swedish taxidermist Kjell von Sneidern (1910–2000), who collected natural history specimens in Colombia.[2] References
