SK25
SK25 is the working title of the upcoming Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by Sudha Kongara. It is jointly produced by Dawn Pictures and Red Giant Movies. The film stars Sivakarthikeyan, alongside Jayam Ravi, Atharvaa and Sreeleela (in her Tamil debut). Initially, Sudha and Suriya were set to collaborate after Soorarai Pottru (2020). Announced in October 2023, Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Nazim and Vijay Varma were on board in the lead roles, tentatively titled Suriya 43. Due to unknown reasons, however, the film was shelved. Sudha then revived the script with Sivakarthikeyan replacing Suriya. The film was announced in December 2024 under the tentative title SK25, as it is the actor's 25th film as a lead actor. Principal photography commenced the same month in Chennai. The film has music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, cinematography handled by Ravi K. Chandran and editing by Sathish Suriya. CastProductionDevelopmentIn January 2022, Suriya announced that he would reunite with director Sudha Kongara following their critically acclaimed film Soorarai Pottru (2020).[4] Initially planned as a biographical film inspired by true stories, the project was delayed due to their respective commitments on Kanguva (2024) and Sarfira, the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru.[5][6] Discussion regarding the project resurfaced in early 2023, and music composer G. V. Prakash Kumar joined the crew in his 100th film and third consecutive film with the director.[7] Tentatively titled as Suriya 43, in what would have been his 43rd film as a lead actor, the project was reportedly funded by Suriya and Sudha themselves, under the 2D Entertainment and Meenakshi Cinemas banners, respectively, and was intended to be announced on 23 July, coinciding with the occasion of Suriya's birthday.[8] However, it was instead announced on 26 October, with a video confirming the cast and the title Purananooru being indicated.[9][10] Cinematographer Jomon T. John confirmed joining the crew few days after the announcement.[11] In March 2024, after the project was reported to have been shelved, Sudha denied those claims and stated that she needed more time for the film's pre-production, that resulted in the delay of its shooting.[12] The following July, Suriya was reported to have left the film, and Sivakarthikeyan was in consideration for his replacement.[13] The production was reported to begin after the latter completes his commitments, SKxARM and SK24.[14] Aakash Baskaran's Dawn Pictures, a recently established production house, announced the project on 14 December, confirming the project.[15] Made on a budget of ₹150–250 crore, Sivakarthikeyan was reported to receive ₹50 crore (US$5.9 million) as his remuneration.[16][17] However, along with Sudha and Jayam Ravi, he reportedly decided to take the revenue-sharing model to benefit the film's production; as per basis, they would receive an advance and a major portion of the profits would be received as their remuneration.[18] Pre-productionA muhurat puja was held at Chennai in early November 2024 with the presence of the film's cast and crew.[19] A test shoot was reportedly held on 3 December at a film city in Chennai. However, during the shoot, Sivakarthikeyan who was requested by Sudha to remove his beard was reported to have denied doing so and left the shoot unbeknownst to the others.[20] On 4 December, however, the team shot the promotional teaser for the film and completed within few days.[21] G. V. Prakash Kumar would score the music, in his third consecutive film with the director, whilst Ravi K. Chandran would handle the cinematography.[22] Previously, cinematographer CH Sai, who earlier worked with Sivakarthikeyan's Amaran was reported to be a part of the crew, before Chandran's involvement.[20] Editor Sathish Suriya, production designer Bindiya Chhabria, art director Arvind Ashok Kumar, and stunt choreographer Supreme Sundar were confirmed to be a part of the technical crew.[23] Rhea Kongara and Vikram R. were appointed as the executive producers by the production house.[23] Actor Dev Ramnath, besides appearing in a prominent role, also served as the creative producer of the film.[24] CastingPrior to his departure, Suriya was reported to lose weight for his character in the film as a college student.[25] Dulquer Salmaan was reportedly approached for a prominent role in the film in July 2022;[26] his involvement was confirmed in July 2023.[27] That September, Nazriya Nazim was reported to have been approached as the female lead alongside Suriya, in her first Tamil film after Thirumanam Enum Nikkah (2014).[28] The same month, Vijay Varma, Ajay Devgn and Aditi Shankar were reportedly a part of the cast, with Varma being reported to play the lead antagonist role.[29] Madhavan, who acted with Suriya in Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004), was reported to reunite with him, playing a key role.[30] Nazriya and Varma's presence were confirmed in October.[31] After the reported departure of Suriya, Sivakarthikeyan was reported to sport three different looks for his character.[32] Initially, director Lokesh Kanagaraj was reported to make his full-fledged acting debut, but it was not confirmed by the makers.[33] It was also reported that either Jayam Ravi or Vishal was in consideration for the antagonist role; however, when the latter was asked, he denied the reports.[34][35] Sreeleela was reported to replace the role of Nazriya, which was the lead actress role, pairing opposite Sivakarthikeyan for the first time.[36] She would make her Tamil debut with the film.[37] Dulquer's role would reportedly be replaced by Atharvaa.[19] All of their presence in the film were confirmed by the production house in mid-December 2024.[38] FilmingPrincipal photography began with the first schedule on 14 December 2024 at Binny Mills in Chennai.[39] Reportedly, sequences featuring Sivakarthikeyan and Jayam Ravi were shot first during this schedule.[40] Music
The soundtrack is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, in his 100th film as a music composer and his third consecutive collaboration with Sudha after Soorarai Pottru and Sarfira; second with Sivakarthikeyan after Amaran.[41] Prakash, via Twitter, revealed that first recording began on 1 January 2024 for a song with Dhee as the lead singer.[42] References
