Protobothrops jerdonii xanthomelas[2] is a venomous pit viper subspecies[3] endemic to China. DescriptionAdults may attain a total length of 31 in (79 cm), which includes a tail 5 in (13 cm) long.[4] The scalation includes 21-23 rows of dorsal scales at midbody, 176-188 ventral scales, 54-67 subcaudal scales, and 7-8 supralabial scales.[2] Geographic rangeFound in Central and southern China, in the provinces of Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hubei, and Guangxi.
