Plestiodon lynxe
Plestiodon lynxe, also known commonly as the oak forest skink, is a species of lizard in the family Scincidae. The species is endemic to Mexico. There are three recognized subspecies.[2] HabitatThe preferred natural habitat of P. lynxe is oak forest or pine-oak forest, at altitudes of 1,800–2,700 m (5,900–8,900 ft).[1] DietP. bellii preys upon insects and other arthropods.[1] ReproductionP. lynxe is viviparous.[1][2] Maximum recorded litter size is five neonates.[1] SubspeciesThree subspecies are recognized as being valid, including the nominotypical subspecies.[2]
Nota bene: A trinomial authority in parentheses indicates that the subspecies was originally described in a genus other than Plestiodon. EtymologyThe subspecific name, bellii, is in honor of English zoologist Thomas Bell.[3] References
