Orion, Illinois
Orion (/ˈoʊriːˌən/ OR-ee-on[2]) is a village in Henry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,754 at the 2020 census.[3] It is the site for transmitters for many of the Quad Cities' radio and television stations, including KLJB, KWQC-TV, WMWC-TV, WQAD-TV, WQPT-TV and KQIN. FM radio station transmitters include WLKU and WXLP. HistoryOrion was laid out on December 26, 1853, by Charles W. Dean. As of the 2020 census[3] there were 1,754 people, 735 households, and 507 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,858.05 inhabitants per square mile (717.40/km2). There were 781 housing units at an average density of 827.33 per square mile (319.43/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.70% White, 0.34% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.86% from other races, and 3.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.85% of the population. There were 735 households, out of which 37.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.88% were married couples living together, 10.48% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.02% were non-families. 27.07% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.70% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.13 and the average family size was 2.58. The village's age distribution consisted of 23.5% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36.9 years. For every 100 females, there were 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.0 males. The median income for a household in the village was $68,625, and the median income for a family was $77,132. Males had a median income of $54,115 versus $33,036 for females. The per capita income for the village was $33,310. About 1.4% of families and 2.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 0.0% of those under age 18 and 6.3% of those age 65 or over.
