The Ohio Valley Mall opened on October 4, 1978. The mall opened with five anchor stores which were JCPenney, Kaufmann's, L.S. Good, Montgomery Ward, and Sears. In March 1982, L.S. Good closed and Stone & Thomas opened in its space in the summer of that year. Montgomery Ward closed in April 1983 and was replaced by Kmart that November. In 1996, Stone & Thomas moved into a larger location within the mall.

In addition to the three new stores, the Belmont County VA Outpatient Clinic will expand into the former Sears for more space.
