South African soccer player and coach
Jacinta Rethabile Nthabeleng Modiko (born 20 July 1986) is South African professional soccer manager and former player. She is the current head coach of UJ Ladies. She's a former Banyana Banyana captain.
International career
Modiko captained the South African women's national team at the 2010 African Women's Championship where they won a bronze medal.[1]
Managerial career
In 2017, she was appointed the coach of the University of the Witwatersrand women's team Wits Ladies[2] In 2019, she made her Sasol Women's League debut with the team and guided them to a top five finish. In her final season with the team, in 2021, she finished third in the league.[3]
In 2022, she was announced as the UJ Ladies team's assistant coach.[1] In August 2022, she took over as head coach.[4]
In 2024, she took over the South Africa women's national under-17 team as head coach for the second round qualifiers for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualifiers.[5] The side lost 3-0 on aggregate to Ethiopia and exited the qualifiers.[6]
