Lynch played at midfield in Naomh Colmcille's run to the 2015 Donegal Intermediate Football Championship final, which the club lost to Réalt na Mara.[2] He began the campaign as a substitute for the injured Ryan McErlean in the first minute of Naomh Colmcille's win in the quarter-final of that competition.[3]
Lynch played his club football in midfield for Naomh Colmcille before transferring to Gaoth Dobhair in 2020.[1] The then Gaoth Dobhair manager Mervyn O'Donnell said Lynch had been living nearby since the start of 2020, had attended training and was close to fellow Donegal player Odhrán McFadden-Ferry.[4] He had won the 2017 Donegal Junior Football Championship and Ulster Junior Club Football Championship with his former club.[1][5] He scored three points (including one '45) in the Ulster Club JFC final.[6]
His transfer to Gaoth Dobhair led to a three-month suspension due to him playing for his new club before he was officially allowed to do so.[7][8]

'Farmer (Lynch) has been with us since the start of the year. He is living down here and himself and Odhran McFadden-Ferry would be big mates. He came down to a few sessions and was training away. He came up to me one night and said he was thinking of transferring. I said that the ball was in his court and if he wanted it to happen he would have to go and chat to his own club'…

The Donegal senior goalkeeper was handed a 12-week suspension for lining out last Friday for Gaoth Dobhair in the Regional Leagues when he was not permitted to do so… Lynch was a key player for Naomh Colmcille in recent seasons and helped them win the Ulster Junior Championship title in 2017. However, he sought a transfer to Gaoth Dobhair this season and it was granted by the Donegal CCC (Competitions Control Committee) last week as it met the requirement of residing in the catchment area for a three-month period. It's understood that Lynch had been living with a relative… It had been reported that Lynch's appeal would be heard by Ulster GAA, as he is an intercounty player. However, it is only if an intercounty player has been penalised for a Category 4 or 5 infraction that an appeal is heard outside the county.
