MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/November 2019techhacks.nyc
Two occurrences of said user putting the same link for self-promotion on a Wikipedia article about Brooklyn Technical High School. Included below are the (diff) pages of both occurrences. Additionally, it seems like the user profile was created solely for the purpose of inserting this link into the aforementioned Wiki article. diff1 and diff2. Site being aggressively spammed, clearly not a reliable source. IP (first one) has been warned and blocked for spamming previously and continued. Ravensfire (talk) 15:07, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

The above user added spam links to several pages. After they were banned, they returned today to revert with the two IPs. Please ban the following domains:

supermemo.guru
It seems that all .guru websites are blanket blacklisted. I can easily imagine why this is the case, but in this particular situation, supermemo.guru is the website of Piotr Wozniak, creator of SuperMemo. I was editing that page, using information from supermemo.guru explaining the creator's motivations for certain features as a reference. I would like to be able to add references to supermemo.guru on the relevant pages. Thanks! -Ramzuiv (talk) 16:19, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

I would like to have the site delisted, please. Maybe there was some copyright content on the site back in 2011/2012. but now it's services is fully reorganized. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aimrajv (talk • contribs)
Thanks for your response. this site was out of service for the last 6/7 years. now I am redeveloping to offer various useful services for free. jsonviewer.aimraj.com speedtest.aimraj.com photoeditor.aimraj.com designer.aimraj.com imageresize.aimraj.com (web-based video editor in the pipeline) (all of them under development right now) my intention isn't to use this site in Wikipedia as a source link. but since I started creating services for people I will do SEO if it became blacklisted in WIKi it will impact negatively in my SEO result. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aimrajv (talk • contribs) 10:41, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
-- Explain how the link can be useful on Wikipedia. Well, in that case, I can say, I found that some of my similar services are listed in Wikipedia as source link (as an external link) zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSON en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML We can use my XML formatter, JavaScript Formatter, JSON formatter as a source in Wikipedia ( https:// jsonviewer.aimraj.com). especially, I can create a page in Wikipedia for the web-based product design tool designer.aimraj.com/design-editor/?product_base=4&product_cms=23 or the advance photo editor tool: photoeditor.aimraj.com Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aimrajv (talk • contribs) 12:11, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
@Aimrajv: Assuming you were referring to the links to jsonformatter.org, I have removed these links as well. Wikipedia doesn't host directories of links to personal websites, blogs, tool sites, and similar ressources (see WP:EL and WP:RS for more information about acceptable external links and reliable sources for content). "Useful" means being useful in an encyclopedic context to verify and provide relevant content, not as a mere backlink to drive traffic to such sites. Any kind of SEO or other promotional activity is prohibited here. GermanJoe (talk) 13:05, 9 November 2019 (UTC) @GermanJoe I do completely agree with you. right now I am not trying to create backlink in Wiki. what I have done previously I felt guilty for that, when I was only 17/18 (9/10 years ago). if possible please give a 2nd thought, I am trying to do something good, something new with a big dream. if possible please remove from the blacklist. this is my last request. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aimrajv (talk • contribs) 13:19, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

I would like to have the site delisted. There are some testimonies of alleged survivors on the site and also collections of resources. I don't see how the site would constitute spam.--Sparrow (麻雀) 🐧 19:22, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

classicstreamliners.com
The entire domain is nothing but aggregation of contents scraped from Wikipedia and re-posted in verbatim on a page filled to the brim with ads. Every page within that page has fine prints "Text: wikipedia.org. Images: Public Domain; http://www.commons.wikimedia.org (unless otherwise specified) and 17 U.S. Code § 107 fair use. References: Lewis, Robert G. The Handbook of American Railroads. New York: Simmons-Boardman Publishing Corporation, 1951, 2nd Edition 1956." for example: www.classicstreamliners.com/npt-california-zephyr.html There's nothing on there that isn't scraped from Wikipedia and I am seeing them used as sources in other Wiki pages. I've removed a few already. The site serves no purpose whatsoever to have as a reference here and only serves to boost ad traffic for the webmaster. Here's an example of it being used Special:Diff/840003231 which I have removed already. Graywalls (talk) 13:33, 17 November 2019 (UTC) rr-fallenflags.org
It is a site with a repository of a quantity of unauthorized posting of scans with copyright issues. Here are examples of where I've manually removed them. A Google search has found that this site has been the subject of Cease & Desist letter for copyright infringement by one of the copyright owners, Caterpillar Inc.. as discussed on some fan site and another that came up in Google search. Anyways, it's used fairly extensively here and sites that have such a repository shouldn't be linked from Wikipedia until they're no longer hosting infringing contents.

Newspaper-style articles, for example, that actually look they might be agency reports but I can't find the original and they have no traceable author or attribution. I'm having a hard time thinking of a valid use for this that other than a handful that we can easily whitelist. I think I've nuked over 100 by now. This has been a problem for years on motorcycling articles since it appears to be a convenient database, but it is mostly a scraper site and crowdsourced WP:SPS. It has also begun hosting scans of copyrighted magazines, e.g. [www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Road%20Test/Honda%20CBR1000F%201987%20Motosprint/Motosprint_Group_Test.htm]. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 17:49, 30 November 2019 (UTC) |
