Kaho Shibuya (澁谷 果歩, Shibuya Kaho, born May 20, 1991) is a Japanese media personality and former AV idol.
Early life
Shibuya was born in Tokyo in 1991 to a prominent Japanese doctor,[2] and grew up watching Japanese anime and manga.[3] After graduating from high school, Shibuya studied English in Aoyama Gakuin University.[4] In September 2014, Shibuya passed the TOEIC with a score of 990 points.[5] In 2016, she received qualifications in teaching English and in childcare.[4]
In May 2021, Shibuya revealed that at the age of 11, she was sexually abused by her elder brother, but her parents initially called her a liar when she confided in them over the incident. Her porn career severely strained her relationship with her parents, who wanted to keep their reputation as model citizens.[6]
While taking a break from working with Tokyo Sports, Shibuya briefly worked as an English teacher.[7] Shibuya then took a part-time job writing reviews on adult products in an effort to work as a freelance writer.[5][7]
In 2020, she released the book The Japanese Porn Industry Unmasked: An Insider's Guide, a memoir detailing her experiences in the adult film industry;[5] the book was later released in English in 2023.
Adult video career
While working part-time reviewing adult products, adult film productions began reaching out to Shibuya via her agency to have her perform anonymously in their videos.[7] This then led her to debut in her first adult video in November 2014 through an exclusive deal with Alice Japan.[5][8] Throughout her career, she has released more than 750 films.[5]
From May 2015 to April 2016, Shibuya joined the Japanese AV idol group Sexy-J [ja] as its ninth member, and also recorded a single in August 2015. From April 2017 to November 2019, Shibuya hosted Kaho Shibuya's Tawawa Challenge on Japan's Skyperfect TV.[9] Shibuya announced her retirement from the AV industry at an event held in Tokyo in May 2018.[5]
In 2022, Shibuya has stated that while she does not intend to hide her adult film career, she is no longer involved with it, as she had retired.[7] In September 2023, she sent several cease and desist letters requesting adult film companies to suspend sales of all her previous adult films.[10] On December 23, 2023, Shibuya announced that her actions had been successful, as well as her name delisted from adult film anthologies in which she had appeared.[10]
Other career ventures
Shibuya has since taken her love of anime and manga professionally, appearing as a cosplay guest at anime conventions internationally. She has also published two photo books of herself in various anime costumes.[11]
Shibuya appeared as an extra in Little Nights, Little Love [ja]. In December 2023, she was cast as Yue Kurumizawa in the anime series Adam's Sweet Agony.[12] The ending theme song, "Gin Gin Perfection", was also performed by her.[13]
Since August 2019, Shibuya has been the host of the radio show Kaho Shibuya's TOKUMORI.[14] She was also hired by a Japanese company to host their YouTube channel “おもちゃん -Omochan-” beginning in November 2018,[15][16] but would later quit in October 2021 when the company canceled a shoot because she wouldn't show enough skin.[17] In June 2020, she launched her Twitch channel.[18]
Lawsuit
In February 2023, Shibuya sued four parties, including a production company, seeking ¥7 million in damages for uncensored versions of her adult videos being leaked onto the Internet.[19][20]
