John Turnbull (1917 – 1 January 1942) was an Australian-born rower who competed for England. Boxing careerTurnbull represented England and won a gold medal in the eights at the 1938 British Empire Games in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.[1][2] Personal lifeTurnbull attended Geelong Grammar School and was a student at Clare College, Cambridge, during 1938. A flying officer in the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War, he was killed in action on 1 January 1942, and commemorated on the Ambon Memorial.[3][4] References
