Johannes Elison (11 April 1581, Amsterdam, Holland – 19 August 1639, Norwich, Norfolk, England [ 1] ) was a Dutch Reverend who was painted by Rembrandt Van Rijn in 1634. He enrolled in Leiden University at the age of seventeen in 1598.[ 2] He was the minister of the Dutch Reformed Church in Norfolk, England.[ 3] The portrait by Rembrandt was likely commissioned by Elison's son, Johannes Elison Jr., who was a wealthy merchant in Norwich.[ 4]
