Johan Lolos, born on November 2, 1987, in Liège, Belgium,[1] is a Belgian-Greek photographer renowned for his travel and landscape photography. He is widely recognized by his social media pseudonym lebackpacker and is considered the most-followed Belgian photographer on Instagram.[2]
After completing his studies, Lolos embarked on a two-year journey through Australia and New Zealand,[5] during which he honed his passion for landscape photography.[6] His work gained significant attention on social media platforms,[7] particularly Instagram, where he shares his photographs under the alias lebackpacker.
In 2018, Lolos published his first book, Peaks of Europe (Lannoo, 2018),[8] documenting a five-month road trip across 17 European countries. The book was released in four languages and was recognized by Forbes as one of the best travel books of the year.[9]
Throughout his career, Lolos has collaborated with numerous international brands, including Toyota,[10]Samsung,[11]Nikon,[12] and Médecins Sans Frontières.[13] He has also conducted workshops and mentorship sessions, sharing his expertise with aspiring photographers.[14][15]
In 2023, Belgian weekly magazine Le Vif included Johan Lolos in its “40 Under 40” list of “40 Belgian Personalities to Watch,” where he was one of only two photographers, alongside Charlotte Abramow.[16]
In 2023, Lolos held his first solo exhibition in an art gallery, titled Solitudes, at the Buronzu Gallery in Liège, marking a significant milestone in his career.[18]
