Jan Flatla (born 12 March 1935) is a Norwegian jurist, diplomat and handball player.[1]

Early and personal life

Flatla was born in Oslo on 12 March 1935, a son of Johannes Larsen Flatla and Ragna Kirkeby.[2]

He made his debut on the Norwegian national team in 1957, and played 13 matches for the national team between 1957 and 1959.[3] He participated at the 1958 World Men's Handball Championship.[4]

Career

Flatla graduated from the University of Oslo in 1962, was a deputy judge in Vinger and Odal for one year and completed his training to become a diplomat in 1966. Among others he served as a vice consul in New Orleans, embassy secretary in Helsinki and embassy councillor in London.[1][2] He was Norway's ambassador to the Netherlands from 1999 to 2003.[5][6]

Since 1994 he is a commander of Order of St. Olav for his service to the country. He holds the grand cross of Order of Orange-Nassau.
