Jamia Tur Rasheed
Jamia Tur Rasheed, Karachi (Urdu: جامعتہ الرشید کراچی) is an Islamic seminary in Karachi, Pakistan. The seminary was established by Rasheed Ahmad Ludhianvi. It is accredited degree awarding institute by Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and the Higher Education Commission. The seminary has 36 departments including "Kulyatush Shariyah". It also runs female schools including "Jamia Umm Habībah lil-Banāt", "Jamia Hafsa lil-Banāt" and "Al-Bairuni Girls Secondary School". Mufti Abdul Rahim is the current head of the seminary.[1][2] The seminary co-formed "Majma-ul-Uloom Al-Islamia" (Board of Islamic Sciences) along with Jamia Binoria in May 2021, to reconcile between secular and religious education in the "madrasas". In December 2022 the jamia established Al-Ghazali University. Jamia Tur Rasheed, located in Karachi, Pakistan, is a prestigious Islamic educational institute founded by Mufti Rasheed Ahmad Ludhianvi (RA). Recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Higher Education Commission, it is authorized to award degrees. With over 30 departments, the institution integrates traditional Islamic studies with contemporary education. Notable programs include Dars-e-Nizami, Ma’had Al-Rasheed Al-Arabi, Hifz-ul-Quran, Kuliyyat Al-Shariah, and specialization departments. The institution also actively promotes women's education through entities like Jamia Umm Habiba Lil-Banat, Jamia Maimoona Lil-Banat, and Al-Biruni Girls Secondary School and College. Currently, Mufti Abdul Raheem serves as the head of Jamia Tur Rasheed. In 2021, Jamia collaborated with Jamia Binoria to establish "Majma-ul-Uloom Al-Islamia," aiming to integrate religious and modern education within madrassas. Additionally, in 2022, the institution inaugurated Al-Ghazali University. Mission and ServicesJamia Tur Rasheed was established with the vision to provide a comprehensive education system that blends Islamic and modern knowledge. Its goal is to nurture individuals who excel in both spiritual and worldly matters, equipping them to contribute positively to all sectors of society. HistoryThe Jamia Tur Rasheed was founded by Rashid Ahmed Ludhianvi. The background to its foundation was to have such a "Darul Ifta" (juristic council) which limits itself to issues that do not exist in any other seminary. The department of "Tamrīn-e-Ifta" did not exist in any other seminary in Pakistan, and it inspired Ludhyanwi to set up the new seminary in Ahsanabad.[3] The seminary has 36 departments.[3] The departments include "Mahd al-Rashīd al-Arabi" which promotes the Arabic language, and "Takhassus fi al-iftā", which has the credit of being first such department in whole of the Pakistan. Ludhyanwi established the department in 1964.[3] The department teaches astronomy and geography as well.[3] The department of communication in the seminary was started by Mateen-ur-Rehman Murtaza, a former chairman of Karachi University's mass communication department.[4] The seminary started its "Kulyatush-Shariyah" program, and department in 2003 for the university students having top grades, to equip them with traditional Islamic sciences in a span of four years.[3] In February 2021, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and the Higher Education Commission accredited the Jamia Tur Rasheed as a degree awarding institute.[5] Its degree was approved to be equivalent to a double MA.[5] In May 2021, Jamia Tur Rasheed formed a new board, "Majma'a Uloom al-Islāmiya" along with Jamia Binoria, disaffiliating itself from the Wifaqul Madaris.[6] The new board is approved by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and aims "to promote modern education with religious studies at "madrasas" so that students of seminaries could avail the equal opportunity and play their role in the development of society as well", according to the Academia Magazine.[7] Core Focus Areas1. Press and Media: Jamia operates a media house under the principles of education, broadcasting, and service. Its objective is to disseminate Islamic teachings through modern media platforms. Plans are underway to launch an educational web channel and a satellite TV channel. 3. Shariah Guidance and Services: Through its Dar-ul-Ifta and various other departments, Jamia offers Islamic guidance to individuals and organizations, helping them address contemporary challenges in light of Shariah principles.
