House of Lobanov-Rostovsky
The House of Lobanov-Rostovsky claims to be a branch of the Monomakhovichi from the House of Rurik,[1] whose male-line ancestors ruled the Principality of Rostov, the area now in the present-day Russia.[citation needed] HistoryIt originated with Prince Ivan (nicknamed Loban for his wide forehead),[citation needed] who lived at the end of the 15th century and was a great-grandson of Konstantin Vasilyevich, a reigning prince of Rostov the Great.[citation needed] Notable members of the family included:
Their coat of arms combines the emblems of Kiev and Rostov the Great, two cities their patrilineal ancestors ruled.[citation needed] Among the (former) estate of the family is the Lobanov-Rostovsky Palace in downtown Saint Petersburg.[2] References
