Hester Jackson-McCray (born May 19, 1961) is an American politician in the state of Mississippi . A member of the Democratic Party , she is the representative for District 40 of the Mississippi House of Representatives , defeating incumbent Ashley Henley .[ 1] [ 2]
Jackson-McCray was the first African American to represent DeSoto County in the Legislature, and she will be just the third African American to represent a majority-white legislative district since Reconstruction.[ 3]

She was born on May 19, 1961, in Drew, Mississippi .[ 4] [ 5] She is a nurse and lives in Horn Lake, Mississippi .[ 6]
