Gurudas College
Gurudas College, established in 1956,14 August;[1] is an undergraduate college in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is affiliated with the University of Calcutta.[2] HistoryIn July 1956, one government order was issued to establish five colleges under the aegis of the Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation. This is mostly to meet the growing educational need due to the influx of displaced people after the partition. One of that five college is the Gurudas College. The name of this college commemorates the legacy of Sir Gurudas Banerjee, the first Indian vice-chancellor of the University of Calcutta.[3] Departments and coursesThe college offers different undergraduate and postgraduate courses and aims at imparting education to the undergraduates and postgraduates of upper-, lower- and middle-class people of Kolkata and its adjoining areas.[4] ScienceScience faculty consists of the departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science & Application, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, and Economics. Arts & CommerceArts and Commerce faculty consists of departments of Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Journalism & Mass Communication, Sociology, and Commerce.
