Flat Rock Community Schools is a school district jurisdiction located in the city of Flat Rock, in Wayne County, Michigan. Flat Rock Community Schools mascot is a ram, and their school colors are green and gold.[1]

Student population

According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, Flat Rock High School has 475 students, as of the 2022-23 school year. 82.7% of students are White, 6.7% are Hispanic, 6.3% are Black, 2.5% are two or more races, 1.5% are Asian, less than 1% are American Indian/Alaska Native, and there are no Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders. There is roughly an even amount of male and female students.[2]

Bobcean Elementary has 371 students as of 2022-23.[3] Barnes Elementary has 380 students as of 2022-23.[4] Simpson Middle School has 402 students as of 2022-23.[5] The race/ethnicity and gender statistics for these schools are similar to that of Flat Rock High School.

Revenue and spending

Flat Rock Community School District averages $15,017 in revenue, which is based on student population, and has gone up 11% over the last 4 years. The district averages $12,564 in spending, which has increased 13% over the last 4 years.[6]

Safety and security

The school district provides resources for safety and security on their website, in which they note that all buildings are equipped with intercoms at the main entry doors and ALICE training for all staff, among other things.[7] Flat Rock Community Schools have not faced any serious acts of violence. The middle and high school have been victims of very few threats, all of which were reported and resulted in no harm to the students or staff.[8][9][10][11]
