Eleanor Cardwell
Eleanor Cardwell (born 11 November 1994) is an English international netball player.[2] She plays in goal attack and goal shooter for England and currently plays for Melbourne Mavericks in the Suncorp Super Netball league.[3] Domestic careerCardwell joined Blackpool Netball Club at the age of 10.[4] She played with Manchester Thunder initially as a defender, before transitioning to attack in the 2015 and 2016 Superleague seasons.[5][6] Following her time with Manchester Thunder, she played at Severn Stars for two seasons, before returning to Manchester ahead of the 2019 Superleague season.[7] Cardwell was part of Manchester's title winning sides in 2012 (as Northern Thunder), 2014, 2019 and 2022.[8] In 2023, Cardwell made the move to Australia and joined the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season where they won the championship in extra time.[9][10] For the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball Season, Cardwell joined former Manchester Thunder coach Tracey Neville at Melbourne Mavericks. International careerCardwell made her England Netball debut in 2016 against Northern Ireland in Netball Europe.[11] Her first call-up to a senior major international competition was the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games,[12] where England failed to medal.[13] She achieved her 50th England Roses cap in October 2022 against Australia.[12] In 2023, Cardwell was part of the England Roses team who achieved their first ever World Cup Silver Medal in Cape Town.[14] Personal lifeCardwell was born in Blackpool and began playing netball at primary school after encouragement from her mother. She previously trained in Taekwondo three nights a week alongside her netball.[12] She is also known for her advocacy work supporting women and girls with correct-fitting sports bras.[15] References
