Charles H. Foy
Charles Henry Foy or Foye (c. 1809 – 30 May 1866) was a sailor in the U.S. Navy during the American Civil War. He received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Second Battle of Fort Fisher on January 15, 1865. Military serviceFoy became a merchant seaman at age 18 in 1825.[2] In his early 50s, Foy joined the Navy from Boston in July 1861, and was assigned to the Union steamer USS Rhode Island (1861). [3] On January 15, 1865, the North Carolina Confederate stronghold of Fort Fisher was taken by a combined Union storming party of sailors, marines, and soldiers under the command of Admiral David Dixon Porter and General Alfred Terry.
