Azad Adhikar Sena
Azad Adhikar Sena, (AAS), is a registered political party in India, registered with the Election Commission of India. Initial attemptsAzad Adhikar Sena was initially started by ex IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, activist Dr Nutan Thakur, along with others in August 2021.[2] Immediately after this announcement, Thakur was arrested in a criminal case, which he alleged to be politically motivated.[3][4] ResumptionLater, Thakur resumed the work of initiating the formation of Adhikar Sena after his release from jail in March 2022.[5] In June 2022, the formation of Adhikar Sena was again announced.[6][7] He said the primary aim of Adhikar Sena is to instill the feeling and concept that all the powers and authorities lie in the citizen of India, as bestowed through the Constitution of India and various laws of the Land.[8] The Party submitted its proposal for getting registered with the Election Commission of India on 21 December 2022.[9] Various worksThakur announced that he would contest 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Ballia.[10][11] Adhikar Sena participated in the December 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly by-elections, where its candidates Mohammad Yusuf and Moin Khan contested respectively from Khatauli and Rampur assembly seats.[12] Adhikar Sena also participated in the Local urban bodies elections in Uttar Pradesh.[13][14][15][16][17] Change of nameIn May 2022, the Election Commission directed the Party to change its name from Adhikar Sena to Azad Adhikar Sena, which the Party complied with.[18] Registration with Election CommissionWhile the Party submitted its proposal for getting registered with the Election Commission of India on 21 December 2022, the Commission finally got it registered under section 29A of the Representation of the People Act 1951 with effect from 29 February 2024 with Registration No 56/301/2022-2024/PPS-I.
