Founded in 2014, AREWA24 is a Nigerian media corporation that includes a television network, a Hausa production studio and a global Subscription video on demand service.[3] It is the world's largest Hausa satellite TV station with, as of September 2024, a reported global viewership of 40 million.[4]
According to AREWA24, it is home to the largest library of HD Hausa language content across genres and formats anywhere in the world.[7]
Guided by research that demonstrates that entertainment and fictional dramas can impact social change,[8] much of AREWA24's programming addresses community-relevant issues such as girl education, corruption, women's issues, health challenges, interreligious violence, youth employment, and conservation.[9][10][11]
In July 2024, the channel announced its first feature, The Jaru Road, described as an "authentic Northern Nigeria story" produced in English, and one of five AREWA24 films slated for production in 2024–25.[14]
In October 2024, AREWA24 and Canal+ International announced a partnership that would expand AREWA24's reach in West Africa from four countries—Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad—to eight and include Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Togo.[15]
