The 2021-22 Shillong Premier League is the 11th season of the Shillong Premier League (SPL)
Shillong Lajong are the defending champions
The Shillong Premier League (currently known as Officer's Choice Blue Shillong Premier League for sponsorship reasons) is the second-level statefootball league in the Indian state of Meghalaya, below the Meghalaya State League, organised by the Shillong Sports Association (SSA),[1] which is affiliated to the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA).[2][3] It was started with 8 teams in 2010 and it kicks off from the 15th June 2022.[4]
Changes from last season
In the new season of the 2021-22, there will be 8 teams participating instead of 7 teams.
Malki SC make a return to the SPL for the first time since 2018; at the end of that season they were suspended for a year due to violence on the part of some of their fans. They also had to pay a fine in order to be re-admitted into the SPL.This is thus the first time since 2017 that we’ve had eight clubs in the SPL[5]
The competition consists of 14 rounds that follows a double round-robin format, with each club playing the others twice, at SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, for a total of 14 matches each. Teams receive three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss. There are no play-offs and the team which tops the table wins the league and the bottom two teams gets related.
The position of each team is determined by the highest number of points accumulated during the regular season. If two or more teams are level on points, the following criteria are applied in order until one of the teams can be determined as the higher ranked
Highest number of points accumulated in matches between the teams concerned
Highest goal difference in matches between the teams concerned
Highest number of goals scored in matches between the teams concerned
Highest goal difference
Highest number of goals scored
